(Reuters) - Sex could keep the Ebola epidemic alive even after the World Health Organization (WHO) declares an area free of the disease, one of the discoverers of the deadly virus said on Tuesday.
The WHO is hoping to announce later this week that Nigeria and Senegal are free of Ebola after 42 days with no infections -- the standard period for declaring an outbreak over, twice the maximum 21-day incubation period of the virus.
However, it appears the disease can last much longer in semen.
"In a convalescent male, the virus can persist in semen for at least 70 days; one study suggests persistence for more than 90 days," the WHO said in an information note on Monday.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

Not an expert, but from what I understand active Ebola virus disappears from different body fluids at different times.
It is apparently present in semen well after it disappears from the blood. I would suspect it is still present in blood after it is no longer present in saliva.
Semen seems to hold onto it longest. No idea why.
FWIW, his plans to come to America were probably made at least three months before his trip, if only because that’s how long the visa application process takes.
His ticket was bought at least a week before the incident where he was exposed.
So it’s not like he knew he got exposed, and then decided to come to America.

Liberian prostitute kills eight soldiers via Ebola transmission

A soldier who slept with a Liberian sex worker apparently contracted the Ebola disease and spread it to seven other soldiers whom he shared the same barracks with.
According to the Liberian Observer, a sex worker visited soldier Floson Louise at his army barracks in Liberia.
“When she slept at the EBK (barracks), it was thereafter the soldiers contracted the disease, and could not survive despite “intensive treatment” at the various Ebola Treatment Units in Monrovia,” a source told the Observer.
The sex worker was suffering from Ebola and passed the deadly disease to the soldier who unknowingly spread it to seven other soldiers. The Observer further reports that the army barracks are being decongested to ease the spread of the disease.
The ebola patient in Dallas died and they won’t perform autopsy and will wrap in plastic wrap...so that should mean blood is still contaminated?
They don’t do an autopsy because the cause of death is quite evident.
They should double wrap this guy, spay it down with bleach, and cremate him.
No need for anyone else to come in contact with his disease.
Bodies of ebola victims can remain ‘hot’ for several months after death.
Have the hazmat people come out with a condom yet?
