There was a campbell’s tomato soup place on Franklin Blvd in south Sacramento. I used to get mexican food at this place across the street. The campbell’s employees would come in for lunch stoned and hopped up on whatever else they had. They should sit there for an hour and nod off or worse, be hyper the entire time.

I have “conditioned” myself to accept a lot when it comes to food...but from a FF perspective, if it’s suspect, it isn’t being eaten.

Quick story...took someone to a burger joint that was a local favorite for their first time...they found a hair in the burger and just about retched and have not returned to that joint...I on the other hand looked at the staff, all well groomed and clean kids...figured it was just one of those things...the manager, offered to exchange the burger and comp the meal but this person would have none of it...some folks are very, very picky when it comes to food.

I’d rather watch kids prepare our food on an outing, having all kinds of “seasoning” added than have to wonder if some prick in the back of a kitchen is sabotaging it...

Panera is COMPLETELY off my list

Part of the problem (around here anyway) is lousy franchisers who cut corners. But it goes further.

They're trying to be two things. A high volume fast-food option and a source of healthy foods. So you get antibiotic chicken on bread with not-pure foods ingredients and condiments with HFCS.

If you go to their website and complain, they are responsive to consumer concerns.

Chili freezes well and in my opinion actually tastes better after freezing. I always figured the chili at Wendy’s was Dave Thomas’s way of using the leftover burger meat. This confirms it. I think it’s a clever and practical idea.

I like the old time In-N-Outs with two car lanes. They had the buildings between the lanes. No frozen food. You could see someone cutting fries, tomatoes, onions as you drove through. Also the kitchen was open and you could see the burgers on the grill, the bun prep and the wrapping of the food. Plus there employees always seem to be a notch above.

Baja Fresh had a similar idea. No lard, no freezer, no styrofoam and you can watch them prep your food.

I haven’t had their chili in quite a while...I’ll probably get some next time I’m near fast-food civilization.

So, what do you think about my suspicion of Taco Bell’s beef/giblet taco filling?

Used to work at SnS years ago. There was a McDs next door. We changed the fryer grease every week and we always had good, hot, fresh French fries. Never a bad order of FF from McDs either. Competition is great. The chili meat (suet) came in bricks. The chili was made of water, beans and a brick of the chili suet. It would simmer for like 16 hours on a steam table, and was very good. Nowadays, I would stay away from their chili products. Something has changed about the meat. Sometimes it looks and tastes really bad, too.

I’m guessing they spit in them now....

When the stampede of jobs to Mexico began, the Wall Street Journal had a couple of investigative reporters do an article on the subject.

One part stuck in my mind - Back around the mid-70s, Green Giant moved a California plant down to Mexico and hired a bunch of locals. After a year, the locals were raising Hell because GG laid them off over the Christmas holidays. When they were rehired, GG claimed that since the people didn't work a full year, they were "seasonal workers" and could be paid less than Mexico's minimum wage.

I wrote GG that since I could just imagine what those unhappy people were adding to the product, I wouldn't be buying any more GG products. Never heard a word back. (A denial would have been nice.) Have never bought any of their goods again, not so much for the "yuk" factor, but over how badly they screwed those people.

[Sidebar] Upton Sinclair wrote a hair-raising expose of Chicago's meatpacking industry back in the early 1900s. One event he wrote about was when some guy either fell into a grinder or a lard rendering vat and the production just kept going. He hoped to shock the people over the callousness of the industry. Instead, they raised hell about what went into their food.

that spit wasn't the only disgusting bodily fluid that found its way into their food...the stories I heard of food tampering didn't come from the illegals, rather it was from entitled middle class kids who resented the fame and wealth of the customers they served.

I'm hepatophobic, especially from the likes of waitperthons named Bruce, and multipierced tattoo freaks.

You're probably the safest when you can see them cook the food right in front of you.

I used to work at green giant canning factory, and I did not eat corn or peas years after that.

I can just imagine. See my post at 108.

Did your dad say why? I was always intrigued when I read about the French “Pot au Feu”. Endlessly simmering on the stove and throwing in any leftovers each day...!

I have no problem with leftovers as long as they have been kept properly, but guess you can’t count on that unless doing it yourself.

It may be, at that location.

Earlier this year, Taco Bell revealed that its 'beef' was only 88% beef. The other ingredients included oats and cellulose.

I don’t notice it at other locations. It’s not objectionable to me, but it does taste like what I said. This is a KFC/Taco Bell store.

In all cases, I prefer they create safe uses alternative for the leftovers instead of just throwing away food. Of course McDonald’s doesn’t actually have much edible food.

You're walking on thin ice there, buddy.

I ate my first Filet-O-Fish sandwich in Seattle in 1962, on a trip to visit the World's Fair. It became my go-to sandwich. Over a half-century later it still is my McDonald's go-to. Always say light tartar sauce.

Yeah, it’s not bad, but we have plenty of fish and chips or fried haddock available here, as well as fried clams and scallops. Red Lobster didn’t survive the Maine marketplace.

McDonald’s does have some decent breakfast entrees, as well as the salads...

Of course salads are raw food, and you know what was stated upthread.

Listen up, you rarely see the ones with yellow eyes, sweat, and diarrhea working in the back kitchen. But you can hear them farting, wheezing, coughing, blowing, hacking, and spitting on occasion. Maybe a puke every now and then, too.

For some reason, a vision of old Mad Magazine cartoons came to mind!
