So yeah, I posted lame "topics" but, y'all love me, so here it is.
cracked my back molar, dentist put a temp on it, crushed the lil plastic thing yesterday, pretty dentist put the old aluminium one on until the permanent comes from Vietnam or wherever.
Thing is, it hurts, like it's bare and for the 1st time in my life my stomach hurts.
Okay, so I whine but, could be worse, right?
I mean, I'm a single, 51 year old man. If were pregnant and walking the streets of Somalia, I don't think, maybe, they would understand.
I feel it might be great if someone put a hatchet through my left foot.
I mean, I don't really use the the thing, not even for driving and hell, the distraction?
Priceless!
So, there it is. Vendome whines for the 1st time but, dernit! It feels like what's left of my tooth is in a vise!
Arghhhh!!!!
I wish Donna from "Suits" was here. She could Donnafy the situation and all would....well, likely be ...uhm...well...
Doning flame suit and appreciate your best excoriating comments.
Yer the best!
Years ago, that happened to my Mom, and the dentist and her dentist husband took off for Palm Springs for the weekend, no way to reach them. One wonders why so many medical issues arise as the weekend begins, but they invariably do so.
I ended up taking her to the ER, and she was admitted to the hospital for IV antibiotics, along with pain management, which took care of the immediate issues. Dental infections are nothing to mess with, and my husband and I both have to take antibiotics an hour prior to any invasive dental or medical procedure.
But that was then. I'm 51 and wear dentures now. There is something to be said for them.
(Y'All git the Skits and Melon. Ah be scorin' the 'Tussin.)
He broke the molar which caused the cap to fall off, exposing the nerve...
He will be ok..
I am terrified of dentists.
I had one lady drill into the nerve repeatedly on four different teeth in one sitting.
She told me, “you think that hurts? Imagine what it would be like without novacaine.”
Severe pain will upset your stomach make you throw up. If your pain is severe, your body is telling you something important. Seriously. The ear canal could be hurting because you have an infection growing in the root of one of your teeth.
Don’t mess with it. The potential consequences are too dire to gamble with.
Are you taking antibiotics? You very likely should be.
Seconded, been there, done that.
Got the root canal to remember it with.
Got a question for you..on dentures..
I have a horrible gag reflex...I’m 65 and have been avoiding dentures for over a decade now..
Did you have any problems with getting used to having a foreign object in your mouth?
He will likely need a root canal before it’s over with if the tooth is broken that extensively.
Ear canal?
Yikes!
That referred nerve pain is a bitch, ain’t it?
I recently had a little sliver of my tongue removed and stitches on the right side of my tongue going all the way to the back of my mouth. ear was killing me only thing that gets rid of that nerve pain is opiates. I just emerged from a three week norco fog on Monday.
Hope you feel better soon Vendome.
Several herbal, natural or over the counter things to help with pain and possible infection until you can get back in to the dentist to get the tooth and crown properly repaired. Clove, slightly chew a couple and place them over/around the affected tooth. Don’t swallow it. Raw garlic, same, break open a whole large clove or chew it slightly and place it over/around the affected tooth. Burns like heck to the point of tears for a few minutes but it kills pain and infection, provides relief for many hours. Takes about a half hour to kick in. Tea tree oil, swab it around the gum line and on the affected tooth. It will burn somewhat, tastes horrible, seriously do not swallow, spit any excess out. While it’s not really toxic it really shouldn’t be ingested and you’re flirting with ingestion by using it orally. Takes care of infection and pain temporarily almost as well as garlic but not as harsh of an experience. Straight bourbon whiskey, Maker’s Mark has an awesome 18 year old now, smooth as silk but you’ll pay for it. Then, there’s Anbesol. Don’t eat or drink anything that sets off the nerve pain. Sweet sugary foods, etc. Chew on the other side to keep food particles away from the damaged tooth. One of these combined with whiskey shots should be sufficient to see you through.
Nope. No more mercury. Standard is glass ionimer, tinted to match the tooth and cured with a UV light.

Maybe so....
The dentist apparently does not think so. But dentists are not always very smart, as I have discovered..
Probably thinks that cleaning it up and repacking, and recapping is all that he needs to do...but then it could be a old root canal. 30 years ago, they were not that good, insofar as killing the nerve. Molars are also dual rooted....depends....the dentist may be right..
Maybe...
Put tea bag on it/
Wow! In 1 hour you have almost 100 replies! Go to the dentist tomorrow.
In my instance I had an abscess placing pressure on the nerves which made the teeth on one side of my head all feel as if they were on fire, even though only one tooth was the problem. The ice pack reduced swelling, numbed the nerve inflammation, and reduced the pain significantly.
Do not put ice directly on the tooth as that would most probably yield unpleasant results.
...and the pain will pass.
Actually, not much. Now, let me preface that by saying that I’d worn an upper partial for several years before I had to go the full monte. The biggest thing I noticed was getting used to the upper covering my entire soft palate. I had a pretty strong gag reflex, too, but I was surprised how well the dentures fit (and they do preform test fittings before making the final product). Once your brain and your mouth rewire themselves to accommodate the prosthetic appliance, you’ll notice that gag reflex pretty much disappears entirely. Especially then your gums begin to compress. I found that it was the lower that actually took a little more getting used to than the upper, myself, but nothing medieval about it. It’s worth the investment. And one other thing I’ve discovered - some things like steak and (YES!) corn-on-the-cob I can actually chew better with my teeth out. Things like apples and nuts, I leave them in. It’s a matter of what you get comfortable with. I walk around the house without them in and my wife doesn’t bat an eyelash.
There are no compassionate dentists because they’re too booked - only private insurance and cash - to deal with what other doctors have to. You can pretty much consider dentistry like plastic surgery.
