GRAND PRAIRIE (CBSDFW.COM) - As Dallas County prepares to help with the overwhelming number of unaccompanied children crossing the border, one local city says its being left out.
We are just totally in the dark, said Grand Prairie Mayor Pro Tem Tony Shotwell.
A week ago, Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins publicly welcomed as many as 2,000 unaccompanied border children to North Texas.
Two days ago, he announced three possible locations to house the children once they arrive. One of which, the old Lamar Alternative Education Center, is located within the Grand Prairie city limits.
However, City of Grand Prairie leaders say theyre were never notified until hours before the site announcement made public.
The City of Grand Prairie sent a letter to Judge Jenkins and the Grand Prairie Independent School District asking why city leaders were not included in the discussion to make Lamar School a potential shelter site.
The stern letter, signed by the mayor, says going forward the city must to be included in all talks concerning sheltering the children, who are due here by the end of the month.
In the letter, the mayor writes whether its police or EMS, city services will be impacted once a shelter open.
Shotwell said his frustration at the process is no way reflects the citys stance on housing these children.
I want to really make this clear, he said. We will go into this with open hearts and open minds, but we have to know what we are going into.

LOL
Like everything else with the Obama administration, to paraphrase Pelosi, the busses will come and then you will find out what was on board...
Coming-in-the-night-to-your-town PING
Judges have more power than City of Grand Prairie leaders ,something really wrong there
Thank you
:)
actually the judge is a city commissioner and apparently he is using that authority to bring in the illegal aliens
Clay Jenkins is a royal @$$. Can’t wait for him to get trounced in some upcoming election.
I believe EVERY child that crossed border should immediately have their [name changed/ referenced only by Green Card] & immediately eligible for adoption. Adoption should include any healthy adult without age restrictions.

The invasion has begun. We also have illegal aliens flooding the border as well.
Gee. A ‘sternly worded letter’ just doesn’t seem to work like it used to - for anybody!
What a mess.
Especially if there is a whisper campaign.

Well doesn’t he know we have to pass the bill before we know what’s in it? This “Judge” Jenkins is a political hack believe me. I live here in DFW. The news media is gushing over this.
A single commissioner can’t make a thing like this happen by himself. Look deeper.
There are more Hispanics in Grand Prairie than the are Whites and Blacks combined.
Enjoy the suck....suckers
Anything like our old friend Ray Wiley?
We’re at the point unfortunately where an aroused populace is going to have to take direct action to resist these federal bastards, everywhere, like the patriots in Murietta.
No. That is not right.
County judge is an elected position for Dallas County. He is not truly a judge with a courtroom, but rather presides over County Commission meetings. They oversee certain functions of government that are shared by all in the county (courts and jails, public records, collecting taxes, voting) but do not govern incorporated cities.
Grand Prairie is a suburb to the west of Dallas. It has its own city government, headed by the mayor, who is quoted in this article.
The county judge is out of line in making this decision unilaterally without input and cooperation from the city.
Clay Jenkins needs to be retired... vote for Wade Emmert!!
