Recruits' Ineligibility Tests the Military
More Than Two-Thirds of American Youth Wouldn't Qualify for Service, Pentagon Says By Miriam Jordan
June 27, 2014
More than two-thirds of America's youth would fail to qualify for military service because of physical, behavioral or educational shortcomings, posing challenges to building the next generation of soldiers even as the U.S. draws down troops from conflict zones.
The military deems many youngsters ineligible due to obesity, lack of a high-school diploma, felony convictions and prescription-drug use for attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder. But others are now also running afoul of standards for appearance amid the growing popularity of large-scale tattoos and devices called ear gauges that create large holes in earlobes.

Brittany Crippen, from Fort Worth, Texas, was disqualified because of a tattoo on the back of her neck. Mei-Chun Jau for The Wall Street Journal
Dumbass tattoo anyways. All it tells me is she wanted to have something for the multitude to look at during...certain moments.
Welcome to Obama’s new military. Boy we are headed straight down the path that Rome took before she fell except we have taken it one step farther. We have a leader who is a planted foreign agent and wrecking ball that is intentionally wreaking havoc on our nation from within.
church ?
“Ms. Crippen, meanwhile, said she was still considering whether to remove her fish tattoo, the only one of four tattoos she has that is problematic. “My parents said they’ll pay for it, but right now I really don’t know what I’ll do,” she said. “My tattoo isn’t offensive.”
Now let me guess, the next thing that we are going to hear is that they want to use more illegal aliens instead, and “our” military will consistent of mostly foreigners, with no loyalty or sympathy with the American people.
” Most young Americans are ineligible to join the military, either because theyre drug users, obese, medically unfit, failed to graduate high school, or have criminal records. The Pentagon estimates that only 25 percent are qualified.
“There are 30-some million 17- to 24-year-olds out there, but by the time you get all the way down to those that are qualified, you’re down to less than a million young Americans,” said Maj. Gen. Mark Brilakis, the commander of Marine Corps Recruiting Command, told Federal News Radio.”

:)Apparently things have gotten worse.
Yep! Not really comfortable with the new “Battle Buddy”, thing either. At least not the terminology.
Uh, it is if one is offended by stoopid. Which I am.
The kids may have holes in their ear lobes, but our admirals and generals have holes in their heads.
You got it.
Well, that settles it. We can't Ms. Crippen's feelings hurt. What kind of Army do we have if we can't protect our soldier's feelings?
How would you like to be in combat with Ms. Crippen when her hurt feelings impair her ability to do her job?
Nevermind the fact that the Army bans tattoos because they endanger soldiers by making them easy to identify.
“prescription-drug use for attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder”
If the schools and social workers had their way, that would be every boy in the country.

The military is chock full of that type of female. Not all of them, but a lot.
The policy on tattoos, piercings, and so on may also be about more than just appearance. I’ve seen a lot of youngsters these days with all that, and social media addiction that seem to be just screaming for attention, or have other issues. The military doesn’t need people like that.
If I recall correctly when the draft started in 1940 something like two-thirds were excempted for a variety of reasons as well. But war is a great equalizer and by 1945 things that would have disqualified someone in 1940 weren’t even looked at. I imagine if a draft were necessary now then these tattoos and criminal records and body piercings would be ignored.
OK so you're saying that by not taking people with tattoos and arrest records and drug use Obama's ruining the military?
