Hillary Clinton, the former secretary of State and leading Democratic presidential candidate, said Thursday that she would have loved to spend 25 percent of the federal budget on foreign aid to overseas countries while the nation's top diplomat.
At a USAID event in New York to push for global spending to reduce poverty, she addressed the countrys limited foreign aid budget compared to the huge amount the public believes State spends.
You all know that the polls continuously show that most people in our country think we spend 20-25 percent on foreign aid, and I would have loved that to have been the case when I was at the State Department, but in fact our entire diplomatic and development budget it slightly over 1 percent.
One poll found that the public believes 28 percent of the budget is shipped overseas.
A Pew Research Center poll last year put foreign aid at the top of federal programs the public wants pared back.
Take 25% of every precious buck wrung out of over taxed struggling Americans and send it to Swiss Bank accounts owned by third world cleptocrats.
The woman is an idiot.
The whole “you didn’t build that” is endemic with Liberals. They don’t think we deserve any of the things we have. We should give it all away. Letting hard-working Americans keep the money they earn is evil — sending that money to third world dictators is the moral thing to do.
Wouldn’t buy us love, admiration or loyalty, so why?
What are you going to use for MONEY, Hillary? /s
That statement alone should bar her from public service - elected, appointed, or otherwise - for the rest of her life.
How about this novel idea. Take the money from the countries that hate us, and vote against us in the UN, and give to countries who love us!!! Should be a lot of money there ;-)
I would have loved for her to spend 0% of the federal budget on foreign aid. What right does she have to take our hard-earned money and give it to others? What makes her think that she can buy friends or even allies? If Hillary ever thought she had friends in school, she must have paid them too and thought it was working.
I suspect that the arrogant attitude behind foreign aid is one of the reasons our country is hated by so many who see their governments bought with our dollars. I would rather engage in honest trade where both sides benefit, if we interact at all.
It's only other people's money.
It's not like it's real money or anything.
The Clintoons are globalist pigs.
Shucks, give the money to people in this country who deserve it. Why do we continue giving money to countries who hate us, burn our flag, kill our people, etc? It seems the more money we give the more they hate us, vote against this country in the UN, and all the other negative actions. Our so called leaders are not very smart and she is at the top of the list.
He said that they were trying to protect State i.e. they were lying. Hillary denied Libya funds to protect themselves. Thus, she's talking here about lack of funds.
They topple Ghaddafi then have no money for a consulate? Really?
Of course she would. It is much easier to funnel campaign contributions from abroad. She learned that from her husband selling the Chinese our nuclear secrets. So of course she would like to laundry 25% of the federal budget to control and spend it as she sees fit.
Hillary Clinton on State Dept. budget for FY 2012.
FY 2012 Budget Request March 10, 2011The second part of our request funds the extraordinary, temporary portion of our war effort the same way the Pentagons request is funded: in a separate Overseas Contingency Operations account known as OCO. Instead of covering war expenses through supplemental appropriations, we are now taking a more transparent approach that fully reflects the integrated civilian-military efforts. Our share of the Presidents $126 billion request for exceptional wartime costs is $8.7 billion. So all told, we have a $47 billion operational account and an $8.7 billion Overseas Contingency Operations account.
(snip)
But let me just quickly walk you through this, because on this issue of our $8.7 billion Overseas Contingency Operations, we have the strongest support from Secretary Gates, from Admiral Mullen. And next week I was speaking with General Petraeus last night. He will be here on the Hill strongly supporting the civilian effort that goes hand-in-hand with what he is doing so heroically in Afghanistan. So we are funding vital civilian missions in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iraq with this $8.7 billion.
Too bad she couldn't spare any for Ambassador Stevens though.
I second your thoughts. Any money we send to another nation should result in an equal value returned to us in the form of energy or some other tangible asset(s). Fair trade. And I would include any costs we incur for the housing of any foreigners in our hospitals, jails and mental institutions in the “money sent” totals.
