Cable is to TV what the dial up is to online access.
We no longer need Cable to see what we want and when we want to.
Streaming TV allows us to dump cable.
Get a Roku or a Smart TV.
Get Netflix for $8.00 and Hulu Plus for $12.
And stations such as METV even stream on local sub channels that you can access for free!
That is all ChromeCast does, brings this free stuff to your television
That link keeps running me around to 2-3 other websites, wanting me to sign-up for new accounts... what’s up with all that?
Thanks. There’s a lot of good advice on this thread to check into.
Ummm. Google won’t get near my computer or tv but thanks anyway.
BookMark
It is interesting technology is all. Probably something anyone can duplicate. It’s just a wifi card and a memory card together with the software that pulls all of those online video and audio streaming sites together.
I look for copycats to spring up any day.
I tried to find it by checking their channel listings, no luck. I watch a lot of YouTube content, mostly on my Apple TV in the family room. But would like to get it on my Roku in another room. Another thing I noticed, is that the menu capabilities on the Apple TV puck are easier to use with more features, especially with Netflix. Roku has Angry Birds going for it, but without YouTube the Roku doesn't get as much use.
I have a laptop with a digital transformer cable to my tv. It just duplicates my computer screen on the tv. I have all the free sites like project free tv and solarmovie bookmarked. They have up to date stuff, movies still in the theatres. I don’t buy anything or subscribe to any Netflix, Hulu, etc.
It is all streaming so now downloading etc.
Hulu has a free side, it still got some good stuff. There are some Youtube channels like westerns and John Wayne, horror movies, classic-TV and such like James Burke that are always worth watching again.
I watch subtitled Korean (among other foreign) shows at DramaFever. Having those on the big TV is always cool.
You can also get ChromeCast for $35.00. connect it to a HDMI port on you TV Smart or not smart. Get hulu, youtube,Pandora,
netflix with a lot more to come.
Or get Amazon Prime for $79.00 a year and stream all their thousands of movies for free.
Or buy the 29” LG LN450W with TV tuner and see how many channels you can pull in over-the-air.
Ditto, about the same cost drop going form the triple play to 30m internet only. Got a voip box for $40 + voip service at a few bucks a month for phone, works good. Got a decent antenna, amp, rotor, mast for under $300. Have Netflix and Vudu, and use Redbox. Looking into Roku...
We dumped cable and went with the ROKU box some months back. It was tough for the kids to adjust, but Mommy and I are pleased as punch.
No more commercials or programs pitching bankrupt, degraded liberal concepts. No more idiocy that makes me want to put some .40 cal rounds through the TV set. No more $80 a month to the cable company to support 480 channels that I wouldn’t watch if they paid me!
Okay great. I have Roku, but I don’t use it. I wasn’t that impressed, but I am open to someone who may have tried it out a lot more thoroughly than I did, and found value there.
Since I have Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime, I’m not sure it matters if I have Roku or not. It did have some splinter services that some might value a lot more than I did.
Even those I think you can pick up on the internet if you really want them. I could be wrong regarding some of them.
the greatest game you can name..
yup
bkmk
I don’t know actually though there must be. Rush and Beck portend to be. Hannity pretends to be. I know the Koch brothers aren’t.
When the HDTV's came out, bought an antenna with a hundred mile range at Best Buy to go with a 19 inch HDTV screen. Antenna looks like a closed laptop and all you need is two wall plugs to plug in the antenna and the TV to the wall and a line to hook antenna to TV. I put the antenna on my window sill to pull in the best reception. Get 19 channels. I run a scan every so often to pick up any new channels.
all depends on how much you are paying for your internet and at what speed.....Comcast charges $56 where I live for internet only
