The human species began as the hybrid offspring of a male pig and a female chimpanzee, a leading geneticist has suggested. The startling claim has been made by Eugene McCarthy, of the University of Georgia, who is also one of the worlds leading authorities on hybridisation in animals. He points out that while humans have many features in common with chimps, we also have a large number of distinguishing characteristics not found in any other primates.
Dr McCarthy says these divergent characteristics are most likely the result of a hybrid origin at some point far back in human evolutionary history. What's more, he suggests, there is one animal that has all of the traits which distinguish humans from our primate cousins in the animal kingdom. 'What is this other animal that has all these traits?' he asks rhetorically. 'The answer is Sus scrofa, the ordinary pig.' Dr McCarthy elaborates his astonishing hypothesis in an article on Macroevolution.net, a website he curates. He is at pains to point out that that it is merely a hypothesis, but he presents compelling evidence to support it.

“Also msans you were incorrect when you said this wasnt science.”
Oh, ok. I defer to you on all scientific matters from now on.
Publish or perish, he was probably up for a grant renewal or something.
Who wants to fight a bunch of mean drunks for a meal?
He doesn't work in research. Grant renewals and "publish or perish" don't apply here.
Its an interesting observation, but alas just a hypothesis and as such is specifically NOT passed off as science.
This ... assertion, for lack of better term ... doesn't even rise to the level of "hypothesis." In order to formulate a hypothesis, one must work with the body of scientific knowledge known so far, using one's knowledge of chemistry and physics to come up with a logical, plausible, and testable hypothesis.
This guy did not formulate a hypothesis. He made a wild speculation which is only superficially based on scientific observation (pigs are furless! humans are furless! therefore they must be related!). Furthermore, the wild speculation is easily shown wrong. One can start by comparing chromosome numbers and go from there, if one wants--but it really isn't necessary, since the drastically different chromosome numbers already make the assertion a no-go.

That's the way it's SUPPOSED to be.
It's clearly stepped over that line lately.
This guy actually holds a PhD in genetics, if we are to believe his Google profile. But he does not work at a university. He disingenuously claims to be "of the University of Georgia", but that's only because he was educated there.
It is not unknown for even PhD trained people to become kooks instead of scientists. Just like MD trained people sometimes end up being quacks instead of physicians. It happens.
Interesting. Back in grad school, I read about an effort to genetically engineer pigs so that they would not add a certain sugar to cell surface receptors, which would make their organs more compatible to human physiology.
At the time, I wondered, if this is successful and pigs can be grown as organ donors for humans, do the organ recipients get the ham and bacon from the donor pig?
As do the internal organs of any mammal. There are larger differences in the surface antigens of the cells that form the organs.
“She got porked!”
So many people view this as impossible, but then think “well - it only has to happen ONCE!”
With that said, how many times does one think that a male pig screwed a monkey? And how many times has a male monkey screwed a female pig? I would think the later (both the mechanics of it all, and observing monkeys on tv and at the zoo that look like they will screw anything - (”animate, inanimate - it didn’t matter” (Jimmy Buffet) - that the odds would favor that “Adam” was a monkey and not a pig.
Not much one can say when confronted with this kind of embrace of ignorance.
>> “Possible, but even with the supporting evidence, I have doubts.” <<
.
What “supporting evidence” would that be?
.
I know from my extremely limited experience with pigs that sometimes you have to hit them until they’re angry before they get up on their feet.
Proof that there is much insanity in the world.
Yup. Sometimes you can be left kind of speechless.
This guy’s a riot! I haven’t seen a bona fide case of death wish for a looooong time lol!
I don’t know. Can’t I just be a pig? Who needs the ‘male chauvinist’ part? I think that’s demeaning. These folks need to respect our differences. Besides, it’ a disease. I was born this way. It’s in my family history. It’s in my genes.
Sad day in American, when folks are singled out for their personal choices...
