So, the WWII memorial is open today... Park police letting everyone by right now. #shutdown

No attempt to stop any WWII visitors right now. Maybe after the congressmen leave ... #shutdown pic.twitter.com/SZmxBfh2cr

As noted in the last post, Congressman Steve King "distracted" the Capitol Park Police while the veterans, per their training, rushed over the barriers.
Here's a brief Vine video of the veterans reclaiming their Memorial from Obama's Shutdown Theater Prop Workshop.
President Bush speaks during the dedication of the World War II Memorial in Washington Saturday, May 29, 2004. Former Senator Bob Dole, bottom right, sits with World War II Medal of Honor recipients. (Ron Edmonds - AP)
We’ve been slouching in that direction for quite a while now.
I just hope some hothead in the Parks Department doesn’t try to enforce their idiotic closure. These men and women may be heroes, but they are also quite old. They don’t need to get into a physical confrontation with DC Riot Police.
Lots of disgusting comments after the article, naturally...
It is being shut down because it is highly visible, and will inconvenience tourists when it is shut down. This seems to be more ‘nudging’ by our administration
It has erupted a few times in the last few years.
I just received this notice since I live near the trail:
“The government shutdown has limited access and use of Appalachian Trail by hikers and volunteers. “
Maybe the blazes and switchbacks have been turned off.
BTTT!
That's why we WON WWII. They don't put up with any crap! These guys know how to deal with tin-horn dictators and their gestappo.
I think the image of veterans and children soaking their feet together in the pool at the memorial is a beautiful image.
Is this being reported in any of the major media? I just saw a Fox News report on the shutdown that used the World War II memorial being closed off and the police line tape being shown as an example. There were no vets or other civilians in the shot so the Memorial looked deserted.
Today during the actual shutdown nary a whisper.
My mother was in the WAVES as well... based in Charleston, SC during WWII. God rest her soul... she would have been 90 years old this December.
My father was a sergeant in the Army in the Pacific Theater... saw lots of action in Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands, Philippines, etc. God rest his soul... he'd be 94 this year.
This will never be reported in the Washington Post. That’s for sure.
Way to go vets!!!!!!!!!!!!
FUBO!
<....”These guys know how to deal with tin-horn dictators and their gestappo”....
Just wait til America rises and watch these guys show everyone how it’s done! They have nothing to loose and everything to gain!...so do we!
Is the MSM covering this? Are they calling out these Tea Party Anarchists?
Or will they say that these World War II veterans had to break in to their monument because the Republicans closed all the national parks and monuments?
where was the comments?
Also what on earth are they talking about, it stated that the RNC is using this to get e-mail addresses, HUH.
Twitter and face book AND the news stations ARE reporting it....coming along nicely...go VETS!
In 1943 these brave soldiers fought foreign enemies to keep America free. In 2013 they are now fighting domestic enemies just to visit a symbol of freedom.
Maybe BECAUSE they shut down the government. I do believe this time around it will blow up in their faces, despite all that the MSM and their in-house spinmeisters can do.
