As noted in the last post, Congressman Steve King "distracted" the Capitol Park Police while the veterans, per their training, rushed over the barriers.

We’ve been slouching in that direction for quite a while now.
I just hope some hothead in the Parks Department doesn’t try to enforce their idiotic closure. These men and women may be heroes, but they are also quite old. They don’t need to get into a physical confrontation with DC Riot Police.

It is being shut down because it is highly visible, and will inconvenience tourists when it is shut down. This seems to be more ‘nudging’ by our administration

I just received this notice since I live near the trail:
“The government shutdown has limited access and use of Appalachian Trail by hikers and volunteers. “
Maybe the blazes and switchbacks have been turned off.

I think the image of veterans and children soaking their feet together in the pool at the memorial is a beautiful image.
Is this being reported in any of the major media? I just saw a Fox News report on the shutdown that used the World War II memorial being closed off and the police line tape being shown as an example. There were no vets or other civilians in the shot so the Memorial looked deserted.
Today during the actual shutdown nary a whisper.
My mother was in the WAVES as well... based in Charleston, SC during WWII. God rest her soul... she would have been 90 years old this December.
My father was a sergeant in the Army in the Pacific Theater... saw lots of action in Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands, Philippines, etc. God rest his soul... he'd be 94 this year.
This will never be reported in the Washington Post. That’s for sure.

In 1943 these brave soldiers fought foreign enemies to keep America free. In 2013 they are now fighting domestic enemies just to visit a symbol of freedom.
Maybe BECAUSE they shut down the government. I do believe this time around it will blow up in their faces, despite all that the MSM and their in-house spinmeisters can do.
