The Syria researcher whose Wall Street Journal op-piece was cited by Secretary of State John Kerry and Sen. John McCain during congressional hearings about the use of force has been fired from the Institute for the Study of War for lying about having a Ph.D., the group announced on Wednesday.
The Institute for the Study of War has learned and confirmed that, contrary to her representations, Ms. Elizabeth OBagy does not in fact have a Ph.D. degree from Georgetown University, the institute said in a statement. ISW has accordingly terminated Ms. OBagys employment, effective immediately.
OBagy told POLITICOs Kate Brannen in an interview Monday that she had submitted and defended her dissertation and was waiting for Georgetown University to confer her degree.
OBagys Aug. 30 op-ed piece for the Journal, On the Front Lines of Syrias Civil War, was cited by both Kerry and McCain last week. McCain read from the piece last Tuesday to Kerry, calling it an important op-ed by Dr. Elizabeth OBagy. The next day, Kerry also brought up the piece before a House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing and described it as a very interesting article and recommended that members read it. . . .

"An "op-ed" is by definition not an "ed" of a newspaper."
I agree, but when publishing an op-ed you are supposed to be fair and honest with your readers and let them know the writers affiliations. That is where WSJ screwed up. I just shows their bias on this issue.

You’re right, they did screw up in this case.

If you notice... Much like O’bag-a-crap-ly, the pundits appearing on CNN and MSNBC are getting younger and younger by the day. They need the foolish postulations of these ever younger, ever more inexperienced, BUT BLINDLY AMBITIOUS, fools.

I think that the WSJ and the Institute knew her PHD wrinkle from the start. In fact, she was probably encouraged to “just say you have it”. The object was to use her for a specific purpose, an attack on Syria, and have a ready-made reason in their desk drawer to fire here if the gambit went sour ... which it did. She was expendable from the git-go. This dovetails with one of the comments that the “experts” on the MSM are getting younger and younger. These are young people who will go along with almost anything to advance their career, but ultimately are only cannon fodder. “They” couldn’t find “senior”, truly credible sources to do their lying for them. “They” are all the politicians on the Saudi payroll.

A 26 year-old who has doubtless never been to war (likely never even held a gun) and who hasn't earned the credentials she claims, being used as a "senior analyst" to bolster the arguments of a political hack.
I'll see that and raise you the blonde State Dept. spokesbabe who sounds like a teenage Valley Girl from the 1980's.

According to the article, "[ISW Founder Elizabeth] Kagan gave May of this year as a rough estimate of when OBagys
biography on the ISW site was updated to state she had obtained her Ph.D." However, here is what the Wayback Machine has for her
ISW site bio as of 23 June:
Elizabeth O'Bagy
Elizabeth OBagy is a Senior Research Analyst at the Institute for the Study of War, where she focuses on Syrian politics and security. She is in a joint Masters/PhD program in Arab Studies and Political Science at Georgetown University and is working on a dissertation on womens militancy. Prior to joining ISW, she received the Critical Language Scholarship to study Arabic at the American School in Tangier, Morocco, and studied Arabic and political science at the American University in Cairo, Egypt. She holds a bachelors degree in the Arabic Language and Arab Studies from Georgetown University.
