Paula Deen has been called for a deposition in connection with a lawsuit filed by a former employee at the Savannah, Georgia restaurant she co-owns with her brother Earl "Bubba" Hiers. The celebrity chef, 66, was questioned about her alleged use of racial slur and jokes.

Thanks, will do!
me too.
Not always D1. Ever see the 9 minute skit on youtube by Chris Rock talking about racism? THAT'S denigration in it's highest form.
I know where you’re coming from. That’s about the way I feel about. I told myself I didn’t want to use that term. I just don’t do it.
I do understand your point. I just can’t do it.
I’m not in favor of hate crimes legislation either.
My thought is that people were wronged. I don’t ever want to use a term that hearkens back to that time.
People can be all sorts of things, but harkening back to a time of slavery isn’t a place I want to go.
I do know that some people’s behavior can be very trying. I’ve had Whites try me that way too. I just don’t want to use the N word.
I don’t doubt any of that. The question is, do I want to be a part of that? No.
I’m not trying to think for any of you, or putting any of you down. This is how I want to live.
It has been my thought that it was their club to be in, being called the N word. Those in the club should be able to decide what they want to do in the aftermath.
I am neutral on whether they use it or not. If they want to, I have no problem with it. If it were my choice, I’d let that word die. It’s not my call.
Today Dean came out and said she doesn’t support folks using the “N” word. Then why did she use it? The statement wreaks.
Amen all you said. Now that I have kids, I actually have to put at least two second’s worth of thought into things, and explain the rationale behind previously impulsive actions. I would hope to explain the N word situation to my kid at least half as well as you put it here.
There are serious double-standards out there. I agree with that. The ones you mentioned are ones that I agree on, stridently.
We have a group of people who were wronged. The continuation of the blame game is getting beyond old if you catch my drift, but I’m not going to be a party to using a word that would dredge up old insults.
I don’t disagree with things you said in your post. When people like Holder us the word, I just shake my head. And they’re the go to people for Blacks? Sad.
Actually, I agree with that. Another word would probably be better, but you’re on the right track.
I have pretty much quit getting excited about things people do. I consider them to be inferior when they do things like that. That pretty much takes care of it. I’m better than they are because I wouldn’t do that to someone else.
That relieves a lot of pressure.
When someone is in the car with me, I simply ask, “Did you see what that guy did?” “What an idiot.”
I used to get angry and want to tell them what was on my mind. Then I realized they weren’t worth my time.
I understand completely what you’re referencing. I know it didn’t used to mean anything. As long as it isn’t being used to denigrate today, I’ll bet there are still some folks around who could care less.
We hear the loud-mouths.
Now, to I want to take a chance on offending? No. I try to avoid it.
I know you are not putting us down and I understand what you’re saying but having lived in a ghetto and having worked with many low skilled blacks from those areas then I can only say what I know and have seen.
IMHO people should be aloud to say anything and let others judge them.
I know for a fact many left wing people from the north east from when I worked up there and lived there are racist and in private this is how it turns out.
Yes that African American guy is really nice who I work for but driving home and they get cut up then it’s you F-IN nigger.
The left want o control language for only the right and not for them and it’s certainly easier to shout diversity and tolerance when one lives in their upper class white areas like that place called Hingham MA where the Principle was retiring.
Not a black face, not a Chinese or Indian face , just all whites and girls with teeth braces on and yet they all shout tolerance and diversity but do not live it
I believe Deen (Dean?) was caught saying something during a not so private minute too. If this were only about the scene you mentioned, I think most folks would have cut her some slack, Blacks included.
I have kept it under control for the most part, but there are times...
When you figure out the relationship between early whites and blacks on U. S. soil, it may dawn on you why I said that.
Blacks were wronged.
Whites here wronged them.
I believe it is reasoned to avoid insulting them today based on that alone. If they wish to use the term on each other, I don’t really care. It’s not my place to do it.
When I was a kid, black people had names like Billy, John, Bobby and Jimmy, Jean, Barbara, Linda and Deborah just like everyone else. Nowadays they have all these made up syllables for names that you don’t even have to ask what color they are, you automatically know.........
And nigger Jim was a good guy, a hero, with warts like all of us. That should be required reading for all teens, along with the now semi-forbidden Declaration and Constitution.
No I haven’t, but it some folks did weigh in to say they’ve seen it used as a pejorative, so I may have been wrong on that count.
Thank you Hegewisch Dupa. I appreciate it.
BTW: Christ, Wife, Parents, Kids, Friends, Associates, Heros...
If something can survive these filters with an honest assessment, then it’s probably okay.
Good luck with that. :^)
