American multinational oil company says 'No' to homosexual agenda

DALLAS, Texas, May 30, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) - At its annual shareholder meeting this week, the world's largest oil company, ExxonMobil, rejected a proposal demanding changes to its Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policy that would have granted special rights to homosexual employees.

"Had the resolution passed, the company would have been forced to begin promoting and providing 'acceptance' training of homosexuality to all employees, even if they had religious objections," said Tim Wildmon, president of the American Family Association.

The proposal, voted down by 81 percent of ExxonMobil's shareholders on May 30 read, "The Shareholders request that ExxonMobil amend its written equal employment opportunity policy to explicitly prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity and to substantially implement the policy."

It would be nice to find out what other oil firms are doing in this vein. My guess is that due to the necessity of engaging Muslims, who are getting at least something right if for the wrong reason, all tread carefully. Agree with your view of the typical American oil company. They represent very well those who are willing to put their money and labor at risk to bring products of value to the market essential to our economy.

Except——I haven’t bought a gallon of Exon since it IMO screwed the taxpayers with the Alaska oil spill several years ago.

I believed the ultimate cost it bore was nothing more than a slap on the wrist——after it no doubt cashed in many political IOU’s and made many political donations.

And, it should be noted here its management did not have the guts to render an executive decision on the issue, but rather put it up for a vote by its shareholders (although it may have been required to do so by law or policy).

Exon may have concluded it was between a rock and a hard place...being the Muslim world in which it does business and the in-your-face homosexual movement in the USA, both of which the DOJ seems to want to go out of its way to protect.

I would assess XOM's prospects as better than mine or the country's over the next 50 years or so. I think their acquisition of gas producer XTO several years ago will turn out to be particularly prescient.

My wife inherited an odd lot of Exxon that her grandmother acquired during the depression of the 1930s. It came to my wife upon the dissolution of a small trust and so has the original cost basis of grandma's Standard Oil purchase 80 odd years ago.

I forget what the basis is, but several years ago when I calculated it for her account, I noted that the cost was significantly less than the quarterly dividend then being paid, perhaps 40 or 50 cents. I can't begin to calculate what that means as a total return over that period.
