The Winchester (Va.) Police Department is taking a close look at its officers' weapons holsters after an officer's gun accidentally went off in a special needs school bus.
The incident occurred Monday morning when a middle school student reached for a police officer's gun, reports TV3Winchester. Fortunately, no one was injured.
The officer had been dispatched to the bus to calm down the student. While the officer was sitting next to him, the student reached over and put his finger on the trigger of the weapon. The bullet went through the seat and hit the floor.
They’ve updated the story, still deliberately no mention of the officer’s gender, but they’ve blamed the holster.
“White male reporter.”
Ah, of course. Right.
This must be an older story.
This article has the (male) cop back on duty as of yesterday.

“Lauren Cummings, police community relations specialist, said investigators have determined the gun fired accidentally through no fault of the officer.”
Just an out of control gun... Nothing to see here.
I suspect he was on-the-ready to shoot any dog that needed shooting!
Yes!
I pump my shotgun every time anyone sees it just so they can hear the shhk shhk :D
I am also that guy who every time time I make a move medieval style I flip my sword 360 degrees just so any potential opponent knows I can flip my sword like that!
But seriously, I have always kept my autos chamber empty just in case. I don’t want to accidentally shoot anyone.
I generally do not leave the house with my pistols unless going to the range, but here at home my revolver is loaded, and by design there is one in the chamber on that gun. My Springfield .40cal has a loaded magazine in the well, but that gun I do leave with empty chamber even though I think it is a very safely designed weapon.
If there is mischief to be found, the cat will find it every time guaranteed.
I had forgotten that the 1911 features that safe hammer position, so if I had one of those, I think I’d be okay with leaving a round in the chamber.
I guess they'll be initiating a massive recall of thousands of "accidentally firing" pistols any minute now? That doesn't seem very safe, having holstered handguns discharge at random intervals.
That Ossifer was riding the “Short Bus” for a reason.
Yes, you are right, I misworded my description.
The fact that there is no hammer on that weapon is something that makes me a little nervous, I’m not sure why it does though.
When there is a round in the chamber and the gun is cocked there is a visible mechanical notification that there is a round in the chamber and that the gun is cocked.
While I know that my gun is very safe, I suppose it’s just the mental image of the round in the chamber and the firing mechanism behind it cocked and waiting to be released that causes my concern.
That and I’ve read so many various stories of people getting shot by their own pistol as they do mundane things like sit on a toilet or things like that.
I’m not sure what kind of weapons they were carrying that could discharge like that. I guess I’ve always saw myself as the type of person that if I did carry in public it would be with an empty chamber. I just really do not want to accidentally shoot someone or myself for that matter.
That would be hard for me to live with.
Yes, I would agree with those LEO’s. While I am very confident in my shooting skills, at least at the range, I can see that I am not confident in my carrying in public.
I suppose this is why I have never done it or sought a license to do it. Mainly my guns are for home protection and the glove compartment when I go into the city.
Yep.
I have the Ruger 38 special and a Colt 38 and their holsters cover the trigger housing. And, I have a fanny pack that looks like a purse and the Ruger fits in there just swell in the space made for it so it's covered completely - no way to pull the trigger accidently.
Look up the youtube video of the “Minority” adipose enhanced, female officer who runs up to a suspect on the ground with an officer busy handcuffing said suspect. D*ckless Tracey shoots the helpless and non-resisting suspect while the officer is straddling said suspect adjusting the handcuffs.
MS Affirrmative Hire, and many like her who show up at ranges across America and in the process become walking talking jokes, are why such attitudes regarding female LEOs are so common.
What sort of Officer's holster does not cover the trigger?
And knock the Glock crap off.
“...and thats a really good idea with no safety.”
It is spelled G-L-O-C-K
Hmmm... don’t think I would feel comfortable with that. Thanks for sharing. Highly doubt this is the kind of holster the police officer was wearing that day.
“Secondly, my auto pistol, which is a Springfield .40 cal...”
I like my XD too, a lot! Mine happens to be .45 acp...
My son is a Deputy Sheriff, and he carry’s a revolver, 357 magnum, because he does not like the Glock, and the XD has not yet been approved by the Dept.
