Americans will never surrender their lust for guns.

For a lot of people, one is never enough and bigger is always better. That includes magazines that hold more rounds. The .22-caliber, bolt-action rifle that I learned to shoot at age 11 as a Boy Scout is insufficient.
The revolvers my grandfather carried every day to his job as a railroad brakeman and that my dad inherited are so 19th century. Today’s firearms have to give law-abiding gun owners a bigger advantage over “bad guys.”
That lust for guns is why President Obama will find it tough getting Congress to ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, expand background checks and implement tougher gun-trafficking laws.
Liberal gun laws enable gun owners to be licensed to carry the weapons concealed, and some cities let people openly carry firearms.
The U.S. ranks No. 1 globally in private gun ownership, with 270 million guns in civilian hands, or 88.8 firearms per 100 people. U.S. law enforcement officers only have 897,400 firearms; the military, 3.1 million.
Americans are as addicted to guns as smokers are to cigarettes; as adults are to beer, wine and hard liquor; as gamblers are to slots, lottery tickets and the roll of the dice; and as most of us are to our cars, boats, campers and trailers.
That unwavering attachment to guns should make every gun and bullet subject to federal, state, county and municipal taxes in addition to sales taxes. Think of the bonanza governments could reap.

The gun grabbers has figured out that the way to limit firearms use is to greatly increase costs to gun owners through high taxing and new fees at all levels of government against firearm manufactures, ammunition manufactures, dealers, related suppliers and firearm owners.

Bullet Tax Proposals Reemerge in Gun Control Debate
Last October, Cook County, Ill., Board President Toni Preckwinkle asked the county council to tax ammunition — a nickel a bullet. The idea wasn’t exactly laughed out of legislative corridors — it was projected to raise $400,000 a year after all — but Preckwinkle ultimately withdrew her bullet tax. She also pushed for a $25-per-gun tax on firearms sales. In February, that tax became law, with projections that it would raise $600,000 this year alone.
By passing the gun tax, Cook County, the third most populous county in the country (which also includes much of Chicago), became the first large U.S. jurisdiction to approve such a measure, according to the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence.
Preckwinkle’s motivation for both the gun and the ammunition taxes was to provide more money to help the county address the costly fallout from such crime. It costs the county’s health system $52,000 per patient to care for victims of gun violence — and last year there were 670 victims needing county care.
In that sense, Preckwinkle is linking a gun or ammunition tax to excise taxes, which usually redress specific societal costs associated with the product being assessed. In the eyes of three Harvard University professors, such a form of taxation has a long — and successful — public health history. “We tax items with negative externalities,” says Dr. David Hemenway, professor of Health Policy at the Harvard School of Public Health. Hemenway, along with two Harvard physicians, recently authored a paper in the Journal of American Medical Association called “Curbing Gun Violence: Lessons From Public Health Successes.”

By his own reasoning it sounds to me like he wants people to lose their rights to property as well.
And confiscation is only a means to the real end of total control over the people.
To tax to is to control. What part of shall not infringe do you not understand?
This brings to mind a very common idea that governments on all levels use...
It is called a “sin tax.” Cigarettes, alcohol etc.
It is a bad thing...so a tax is used to ‘punish’ the user, purchaser, owner...
So the author of this aritcle wants to tax..sin tax...your God given Right to defend yourself or overthrow tyranny.

This is one tax that is about amending the constitution by making individual rights prohibitivly expensive.
Poll tax or no vote?

Subpoena tax to no right to search and seizure protection?
