Rush Limbaugh: Jim....What's His name, Free Republic Got Banned at CompuServe And...
Rush Limbaugh
July 24, 2012
Rush is talking about the early internet and mentions Jim Robinson and Free Republic.
Free Republic Rules!
“Your comment made me laugh. I remember the day my mom called my brother “Pee-Wee” before she said his name. She was mortified. He didn’t let her forget about it for a long time.”
Was his name Herman? Is that you, Bill?
Wow! That's a name I haven't heard in at least 20 years.
As I recall, CompuServe was later acquired by H&R Block but remained in Columbus, Ohio. Possible urban myths of that era claimed that central Ohio was a critical communications hub because of Nationwide Insurance and the amount of traffic generated by CIS.
LMAO!!!! Once again, you surprise. For a besotted, gin-blossomed, spit-crusted bumpkin, you're funnier than O'Bunghole without his teleprompter... not easy to do!
8^D
Is that a Telecaster? What year?
Even before that...maybe back in the Clinton days. IIRC - probably not - some politician dissed FR and a FReeper posted “that was like sticking your hand in a cage full of ferrets.”
That Jim? Nice, but he’s much cuter now. Wish I could say the same for Rush.
There were five of us, too. My brother swore there was a sixth named Dammit, because my mother would always say that after running through all of our names when she tried to remember who she was yelling at. :)
Jim “What His Name” Robinson does have a nice ring to it. Congratulations!
Rush failed to mention a few things I picked up on a 2-hour documentary I saw on TV a few years back concerning the history of computers and the modern internet. XEROX-PARC = Palo Alto Research Center. A bunch of XEROX-PARC Execs were tasked by XEROX-NY (corporate) to come up with whatever they could for expanding the business. Supposedly, A year or two later (We're talking 1972 here) they reported back to XEROX corporate with basically everything you currently see in most offices now...PC, Monitor, mouse, & keyboard. XEROX corporate told them they were way out in the Ozone and there was no market for what they came up with. All that prototype equipment was and supposedly still resides in the basement of the XEROX-PARC facility. XEROX could have been the leader in the Computer business, but did not have the foresight to pull it off.
Xerox’s failure to patent all that can be considered one of the biggest business blunders of all time.
I'm stealing that line for the next time it happens!
Fortunately, I never called them by the dog's name.
It's the Bath Salts.
I have three sons, the first two’s names beginning with J. My third son is named Alex. Poor Alex never gets called by his right name. He’s always Jalex. Drives him crazy.
Rush needs to get with it. /s
WAVING @ RUSH. :) Hey, it can’t hurt.
Speaking of names—many parents (any age), and others that have lists in their heads, go through the whole list of children before getting to the correct person AND that’s with knowing who the people are. Once hitting 50, name recognition became difficult, or I kept switching the first and last names around, especially if the names could be either first or last names like Robin Jameson.
I take it you didn’t take the George Foreman route? :)
Who on Earth is “Jim Robinson” and how does he relate to Free Republic? The only “Jim” I know of that is related to our site is some guy named “Jim Thompson”.......
I was looking for someone who would set the record about the “Prodigy Wars” straight...
He has talked about obama eligibility. It would be ridiculous to talk only of that one subject when so many things are going on every day.
