**Exclusive**
Late Thursday evening, Mitt Romney's presidential campaign launched a new fundraising drive, 'Meet The VP' -- just as Romney himself has narrowed the field of candidates to a handful, sources reveal.
And a surprise name is now near the top of the list: Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice!
The timing of the announcement is now set for 'coming weeks'.

It was Condi who received two standing ovations at Romney's Utah retreat a few weeks ago, and everyone left with her name on their lips.
Rice made an extended argument for American leadership in the world.

Wow, really? Just...wow. What a lackluster development, from a lackluster campaign, driven by a lackluster candidate.
“OMG. I was just trying to get myself to choke down the idea of Romeny-Condi would completely turn me off and I would stay home. I dont care what anyone else says or does.”
The Dims and Big Media gave us Romney, makes sense they’d also give us a Hussein Head VP.
Maybe she can give the gushing 2012 “concession” speech like Ace McCain did.
Heil Hussein!
I stand corrected.
It should read:
“co-opted the media to believe that criticizing a LIBERAL black American is racist”
But, after the conventions, if Condi is the VP candidate, watch the conservative superpacs carpet bomb Obama.
Also, I know liberal folks who will sit out the election since “a black American will be in the White House no matter what”.
I agree. I’d love to have her. But there is too much of a mountain to climb. There isn’t enough time until the election. If I’m proven wrong, awesome.

Exactly what I thought.
The left will use this (”You want four more years of Bush?”) like an sledge hammer to pound away at Robamney.
Not to mention, she supported Obammie the Commie.
We don’t need Colon Powell in drag. We need a conservative.
Oh wait, she plays the piano. That changes everything. /s
Ya know - there isn’t going to be “one” person that will appeal to every conservative. Either as a President or a VP. I believe anyone on FR would have to agree with that.
What we need is to beat the Democrats and we unfortunately we need a Politician to do that, and we need a good one, one that can over above everything else can WIN.
Idealism is great, but not real practical in life, much less politics.

If a RINO picks a RINO, I do more than just yawn.
I go third party.
My only hope for Robamney is that he will pick constitutionalists for the USSC.
I’m already thinking (based on his picks as governor) that, once again, I was being a pie-in-the-sky optimist.
The best he’ll give us will be another turncoat Roberts.
The worse will be another Souter.
We’re screwed folks. The GOP crammed another RINO down our throats and he’s been extending the middle digit to conservatives for some time. Picking a RINO as VP (instead of West, who would energize the base), would be the last bird the GOP flips to me. Ever.
We can't continue to concede these things to the commie left. We need to fight back. Obama likes to boast that he was against the Iraq war from the start. Meanwhile, everyone at the time, including all the top demonRat senators, was convinced that Saddam had WMDs. Obama Hussein apparently couldn't care less if Saddam Hussein had WMDs and would use them against us or Israel.
Oh dearie dear and I was trying so hard to attract you.
We don’t need a female ‘John Roberts’ in the WH to stab us in the back, TOO!
I like Condi and I thinks she’s totally qualified, but I don’t fee like she can be trusted
You’re right.
However, I think there is really no rush for Rommey to make a choice right now.
And, much as I like Condi, I think there are better VP candidates he can select from.

Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said on Tuesday that President Barack Obamas foreign policy is lacking and argued that we need a greater, more assertive America in the world.
When things are moving in many different directions as they are, after great shocks to the system like 9/11 and the global financial and economic crisis, and now the positive shock of people insisting on their democratic rights, the United States cant lead from behind, Rice said on CBS This Morning.
The United States has to have a view, it has to gather people around that view, and frankly, I think we need to do more of that, and the last several years I think weve been lacking on that front, the former Bush administration official added.
Rice did compliment Obama on the war on terror but did so by noting his consistency with the Bush administration on anti-terrorism tactics.
Theres no doubt that we have benefited from, really now, 10 years of relative consistency when it comes to the war on terror. President Bush left a lot of tools to President Obama. He left him a military and intelligence integration that has worked extremely well we were able to even bring bin Laden to justice, she said.
Theres no doubt that weve had consistency in the war on terror, she added, and that is something to be grateful for, because I think it is why we have not been struck again.
Meanwhile, Rice shied away from talking about politics in particular, dismissing talk about being a potential running mate for presidential candidate Mitt Romney.
I didnt run for student council president, she told host Charlie Rose, smiling. I dont see myself in any way in elected office. I love policy Im not particularly fond of politics.
However, she did praise Romney, predicted that he would be a very good president.
He will bring first and foremost an understanding of the role the United States has to play in the world. He understands the essence of an America that believes in free markets and free peoples, and that that has really been the reason that the world has been moving toward more prosperity and greater freedom, said Rice. He understands that we need to reassure our friends that, indeed, were going to be with them, and that our foes have to respect, and indeed, fear us.

I am still Newt fan and nothing would make me happier than to have Newt sitting as VP
Your clarity speaks volumes.
Oh, sure, that’s the ticket. We just need to pander to a different race, and then we’ll have it cinched. Maybe he can get an eskimo midget lesbian campaign manager too, while he’s at it.
