Carrie Underwood Supports Gay Marriage
US Magazine ^ | June 11, 2012 | Nicole Eggenberger

Posted on 06/11/2012 3:07:58 PM PDT by Pinkbell

It may come as a surprise to some of her fans, but Carrie Underwood has announced her support for gay marriage.

The devoutly Christian "Jesus, Take the Wheel" country singer spoke out to The Independent on why she believes marriage should be legal for all.

"As a married person myself, I don't know what it's like to be told I can't marry somebody I love, and want to marry," Underwood, 29, explained. "I can't imagine how that must feel. I definitely think we should all have the right to love, and love publicly, the people that we want to love."

The American Idol winner was raised in a Baptist church, but now attends a non-denominational church with her hockey player husband, Mike Fisher.

"Our church is gay friendly," she said. "Above all, God wanted us to love others. It's not about setting rules, or [saying] 'everyone has to be like me'. No. We're all different. That's what makes us special. We have to love each other and get on with each other. It's not up to me to judge anybody."

And the Christian star from Oklahoma doesn't agree with "people who use the Bible for hate."

"That's not how I would want myself as a Christian to be represented."

Yes. It’s an Act, not an Amendment. It is not constitutional. Republicans can be wrong too.

“If Free Republic does not stand for Free Conservative Thought I guess I am wasting my time.”

Perhaps you are. It’s their site. Therefore, they get to make the rules. If you don’t like it, post on another site or start one of your own.

As Ayn Rand so aptly put it: “The right to free speech means that a man has the right to express his ideas without danger of suppression, interference or punitive action by the government. It does not mean that others must provide him with a lecture hall, a radio station, or a printing press”(or an internet site, my addition) “through which to express his ideas.”

>> Really? What denomination is Jesus? <<

Jesus was a Galilean Jew. What does that have to do with anything? He established Christianity, he didn't organize it. That's like asking "what state were the pilgrims from?" if someone objects to states rights.

The Word came from God, not man. There are no errors in the Word of God. We’re going to agree to disagree.

I agree to disagree. That’s the great thing about America.

Reminds me of an old Jewish proverb:

You are correct. I have great respect for Ayn Rand. I also believe the word “Free” means free as in free thought. Our founding fathers had many disagreements, but they found a way to make it work.

She says “its not up to me to judge anybody”,then she judges those against same sex “marriage” as using the Bible for “hate”. The phoney “anti-judgmental” line strikes again.
What hypocrites the lefties are.

>> Really? Who are you to say? Christianity is what God says not what people say. <<

God didn't say to establish "non-denominational churches". God determined what Christianity was, but it was people who WROTE down those teachings and made it clear in human society EXACTLY what being a Christian means. Many heretics and false prophets in early Christianity were exposed and their heresies rebuked. If the term isn't defined for society, then the word is meaningless and anyone can claim to be a "Christian"

I agree with posts #91 and #112. She can get away with calling herself a "devout Christian" because she switched from Southern Baptist to a "non-denomination church" where you can believe ANYTHING as long as you "follow" Jesus. That's the problem. Muslims will tell you they "follow" Jesus too and believe he's a prophet sent by God, that doesn't make them "Christians". Carrie Underwood thinks she "follows Jesus" and that makes her a "devout Christian". If she was in an established Christian church that had a long history of following Christian doctrines and a clear set of values that followed what Christianity teaches, she couldn't claim to be a "devout" member. If she tried promoting "gay marriage" in a Christian church that follows TRADITIONAL biblical teaching about gays (even churches with vastly different theological outlooks like Roman Catholic or Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod), she would get in trouble with her pastor.

Jimmy Carter ended up leaving the SBC (and becoming an "independent" Baptist) for the exact same reason -- his liberal beliefs conflicted with what his church was teaching.

The only way she could get away with that in an established "Christian" church is to join one that has de-evolved down to "Christian" in name only and losing members in droves, like United Church of Christ. And even a really liberal church like UCC STILL has to maintain some basic Christian theology to use the word "Christian". You could probably even deny the trinity exists and be a "good Christian" in her "non-denominational" Church, since anything goes.

>> BTW, I prefer Coke. <<

Ah, but if you perfered generic "cola", you could get any product and claim you're drinking "cola", even if bears no resemblence to REAL cola brands like Pepsi, Coke, RC, etc.

Excellent synopsis. Yes, she gives a warped definition of love and actually is stating a love for sin above God. Her statement embraces an evil behavior—sodomy-—which has nothing to do with love—everything to do with idolatry and narcissism and child abuse. It is such a selfish, nihilistic lifestyle choice.

Thank you for sharing the message from Paul Washer. It is what both believers and unbelievers desperately need to hear. Unbelievers need to know how to be saved without being misled with some man-made formula that is not from God. Believers need to know how to correctly present the Gospel of Christ. In his message on regeneration, he nails it.

Case in point they were never believers. And thus not under grace.

I’m glad I linked it. I feel a real burden over the issue of false professions. Imagine the changes we would see if every pastor took regeneration seriously.

Excellent post #63.

Carrie Underwood may think she’s operating out of love for her neighbor, but it must be a very weak love. As you wrote, “Telling someone that you support their living in sin is wretched.” Love does not stand by and do nothing while your neighbor self destructs.

As I wrote, we aren’t just told to love our neighbor. We’re told to love our neighbor as our self. A Christian doesn’t embrace sin in their own life, because it’s self destructive. So, why would they embrace destructive sin when a neighbor does it? That is not loving one’s neighbor as one’s self.

I knew an elderly Baptist minister who told me once that if you are not careful you can love the devil himself.

I did not realize FR opinions were valued by number of posts. I am a supporter of the Constitution. I see no mention of homosexual marriage in the Constitution.

Hey troll, I notice you have been all over this thread pushing your militant pro-homosexual agenda.

Here's a lesson for you. The Founding Fathers didn't address homosexual "marriage" because ALL OF THEM considered homosexuality to be a crime (in many cases a capital offense). They never thought it would be an issue.

And for the record, there is not now, nor has there ever been a single law anywhere in the United States that prohibits homosexuals from being married. Homosexuals have EXACTLY THE SAME RIGHTS as anyone else.
