FR CANTEEN MISSION STATEMENT Showing support and boosting the morale of our military and our allied military and the family members of the above. Honoring those who have served before.
Music Night To keep you all in the mood for the music thread Fabulous FRiday is going to be about the 45 rpm record Remember the 45s? Never heard of them? Take a trip back in time to see what it's all about.
Tonight we check out the history of the 45. The basic parameters of he music single were established in the late 19th century, when the gramophone record began to supersede phonograph cylinders in commercial music. The most common form of the vinyl single is the 45 or 7 inch, the names are derived from its play speed, 45 rpm and the standard diameter 7 3 (18 cm).
The 7 3 45 rpm record was introduced in 1949 by RCA as a smaller, more durable and higher-fidelity replacement for the 78 rpm shellac discs.
The first 45 rpm records were monaural, with recordings on both sides of the disc.
As stereo recordings became popular in the 1960s, almost all 45 rpm records were produced in stereo by the early 1970s.
Although 7 3 remained the standard size for vinyl singles, 12 3 singles were introduced for use by DJs in discos in the 1970s.
Perhaps the golden age of the single was on 45's in the 1950s and early 1960s in the early years of rock music.
Hope you enjoyed this trip back down memory lane. Or just learned something new. Tell us about your first 45 or your favorite.
Remember, the Canteen is a family friendly place. We welcome the military, our allies, and their families. Continued prayers for the success and completion of your mission. Prayers for your safe return home.

No problem getting in, now.
See, it pays to be patient and jump in later in the evening!
Except, I miss ‘seeing’ FReepers on the Eastern Seaboard...

My FIRST 45 was “Don’t let the Sun catch You Crying” by Herman’s hermits.
The next week I bought “Please Please Me” by the Beatles.
They were 78 CENTS each

Thanks, AZ, for the red, white, and blue tribute.
You were the first able to get in...good job! LOL!
How was your commute? Hopefully without incident, without critters lurking in your path. *HUGS*

Good evening, Beachy!
*HUGS*
Between a lot of
Sturm und Drang we finally made it!
Right before the thread came up at 9:30 or thereabouts, FR went down from my end - I've been off with the Marines on TWS for the last hour and a half. I'm glad to see that things are back up.
Beachy, I hope you have a great weekend. Thanks for tonight's Fabulous Friday thread. My first 45: 1957 - Ricky Nelson - Poor Little Fool.

Speaking of 45's. About a week or so ago I was on Facebook when a post came up asking if you knew what this was - I'm sure you've seen them. It was a spacer to play a 45 on a turntable without a thick hub. I asked my young, left wing workmates if they could identify it. One young man thought it was some kind of tribal emblem with three erect penises. A young woman thought it was an IUD. Not one of those thirty somethings could identify it. Even after I explained what it was and what it did, some of them were still clueless.
I have to say, this kind of ignorance concerns me. This is the generation that will assume positions of power in the near future? OYYYYY!!!

I’ve seen that post on FB! LOL! It is scary that “our stuff” is now completely unknown to the tech generation. More the pity! It was fun stuff! Hands on!
Nite, Conor. See ya in the morning! :)
