Best Buy on Saturday announced the locations of 50 stores that it is closing this year, including seven in California, six in Illinois and six in the company's home state of Minnesota

Also TVs are cheaper and with smaller margins. People are buying tablets and smartphones instead of computers. Most of BB's profit comes from financing and warranties. I don't know how that relates, but I'm throwing it out there. BB is making adjustments like opening smaller stores. We'll see how it works out.
The two in NC are in secondary markets, possibly smaller stores or the population was never sufficient to support a presence.
Didn’t know Best Buy began in Minnesota. Maybe there is just a much larger presence in the state because of it, which led to more closures than comparably populated states.
It just stood out, that many closing there.
The location of the EPA store has been massively developed — big stores over there now including a massive IKEA which is always packed. Wasn’t many years ago that driving over there was to take your life in your hands.
None in Wisconsin. mmm
Pennsylvania has been spared? BB did close a few stores here a while back. Surprised that the remaining ones aren’t gone.
Went into a Best Buy once. Wasn’t impressed with the merchandise, staff or atmosphere.
I notice that they are mostly in Blue States....
Ditto with me. I buy as little as possible in CA now. I’ve been an Amazon Prime customer for five years and pay a flat annual rate of $70 for unlimited shipping of items. I bought a 55 inch Panny plasma last summer and got it from some dealer in NYC - no sales tax, no shipping, and very low price. Arrived in perfect condition and works great. Anything to deny this stinkin’ state “revenue” is a good thing. I think the only things I buy locally anymore are food, clothes, gasoline, and nursery plants.
Circuit City died because they had idiots running the company.......
“I do notice that most of their closings seem to be in Rat areas, too.”
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
I noticed that, too. Only a few in red states, and even those seem to be in blue areas.
CA, IL, and MN took the biggest hits.
I am going to purchase a new laptop. I found a good deal on Tigerdirect(no sales tax, but 10 bucks for shipping) will most likely get a Sony Vaio laptop and upgrade on the memory. Best Buy is just too darn expensive, for practically the same laptop(but it does include a bluRay player that I dont need) its 699.99 plus tax and of course the stupid recycle fee(I seriously hate progressives!) it would come out to almost 780 bucks..its ridiculous how the sales tax kills every single good deal out there. I haven’t bought an electronic item from the local stores here in years. Everything is purchased online either from amazon or jr.com, or now from tigerdirect
Not enough welfare money being spent on flat screens?
I would say Walmart went into the electronics in a big way. While Walmart does not carry as broad a line as Big Buy the siphoned sales could make a difference.
I have come to like Ebay. Ebay has a broader line of many products. With free shipping and paypal, orders to vendors with good feedback are quick and easy.
I just bought my new iMac at the Best Buy in Overland Park, KS. That store is always busy so I never go on the weekend.
“Easy to see the store closing in Vancouver, WA.
Drive across the Columbia river bridge into Portland, OR
There is zero sales tax in OR.”
Yep, and those nappy headed cracker ho’s can’t even buy shampoo to wash those stupid dreadlock hairdos.
I was there last summer and noticed the young college aged girls had the stupid dreadlocks hair style. While I was paying out at the counter, the girl with cat crap hair mentioned that there was no sales tax in OR.
I said, “ no sales tax in OR and you still can’t afford shampoo to wash that nasty head?”
My wife is still laughing on that one!!!!!
Okay, so what’s the difference in what you pay for gas to drive over the bridge vs sales tax. I can see some savings on high end products, but ... just saying.
Best Buy = Worst Buy. Their staff is just plain awful and rude. Good riddance.
They've a lot of "catching up" to do, if true.
We just purchased a samsung fridge at the best buy in Brookfield . Sale price on the 25 cu ft model was 999.00 including delivery. Good price and the sales person was decent . Our 20 year old GE died finally.
