What a difference a caucus makes. Rick Santorum who two months ago had one percent (1%) support among likely South Carolina Republican Primary voters now is running a close second there with 24% of the vote.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in the Palmetto State finds former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney still in the lead, earning 27% support from likely GOP Primary Voters, up from 23% in early November. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is in third with 18% of the vote, followed by Texas Congressman Ron Paul at 11%.

Bringing up the rear are Texas Governor Rick Perry with five percent (5%) and former Utah Governor Jon Huntsman at two percent (2%). Another two percent (2%) of these likely primary voters like some other candidate, and 11% remain undecided

There are very good reasons to want someone who is prolife in the white house.

Not the least of which is the nomination of justices who are also prolife.

It’s not a state’s issue. Not when we are discussing O-Care and funding for planned parenthood and abortion. This is federal funding which needs to be immediately cut off.

We cannot afford to have a president “throw it to the states”, given the situation as it stands today.

Agreed. But when the crunch time came, he beat out Newt. Now the polls are coming out showing that he’s besting Newt in NH and in SC.

We need to back the conservative who’s the most conservative and the most electable, and that’s Santorum on both counts. We don’t need to settle for Newt.

No, but ignore CNN or Rasmussen. They are media drive polls, only done to make ROmney look like the eventually nominee.
Everyone else should accept it.

It's looking more and more like Santorum will be the guy to stop Rommey. I feel for all the Newt & Perry folks, but crunch time is coming. I'll tell you this--if Santorum falters and Gingrich or Perry somehow become the guy, I'm good with that. But until then...

Santorum for President ping. Let me know if you want on or off the list.

PPP should be ignored? They had Iowa spot on and it’s PPP showing Santorum ahead of Newt.

Same with CNN and Ras. Why would they put Santorum over Newt?

Following New Hampshire, at least one of the conservatives needs to bow out and endorse the strongest one to take out Romney in S. Carolina.

Gingrich is more conservative than Santorum...check the voting records....

...more experienced and has major accomplishments of forcing Clinton into balancing the budget and welfare reform.

No settling there. Santorum is a good conservative but can match those accomplishments.

"I simply do not see how Mitt can get the nomination. He will not carry the South. Won’t happen."

I agree. Southerners should be reminded of Mitt Romney spitting on the Confederate battle flag during the CNN/YouTube debate four years ago. I hope I live long enough to piss on his grave.

Budget was never balanced. Debt went up every year.

If a McCain endorsement promotes a victory of Romney in South Carolina, then South Carolina isn’t the state I think it is.

You evidently misunderstand what I am saying. Of course I would want our president to be pro-life. And yes, I would want our president to nominate conservative pro-life judges.

Regarding Obamacare and government funding for abortion, I agree with you that it needs to be cut off because federal government has no business in our personal lives and that should be the talking points of our presidential candidates.

I'm a big state-rights guy. For example, federal government should have no business whatsoever with welfare, food stamps, public housing and the like. If the states want to put together welfare systems and if their citizens vote it in, so be it. But this is not a federal government role.

But...but... the Newt Gingrich fans kept INSISTING Santorum had absolutely "no following" outside of Iowa and his surge during the Iowa caucus was a "fluke" that wouldn't make a difference in any of the other 49 states. He needed to "drop out" and get behind "front runner" Newt Gingrich (who is polling BEHIND him not only in South Carolina, but New Hampshire as well)

Question: How many more primaries does Newt have to trail Santorum in before he's no longer the "front runner"?

That’s what I’ve heard as well. DeMint has stated he won’t endorse anyone this time, at least before the SC primary.

>> Gingrich is more conservative than Santorum...check the voting records.... <<

You mean the "100% conservative" rating that Newt fans keep citing from Newt's final year as House Speaker, even though the Speaker doesn't vote on 95% of the legislation? No thanks. Any Republican can get a "100% conservative" rating if they only vote on two bills that year. I bet you Santorum voted the "right way" on the same bills Gingrich supported that year.

Santorum is more conservative than Gingrich. Look at their actions. I doubt Santorum is going to be doing education tours with Al Sharpton or global warming alarmist ads with Nancy Pelosi anytime soon. He doesn't think Paul Ryan is engaged in "right-wing social engineering" either. The same can't be said for the "100% conservative" guy.

People CAN’T stay home and do it. They have to make money. A person to stay at home and cook, clean, and care was not a luxury until the FDRs socialists came along. It was NECESSARY. To eat well, someone needs to be cooking, cleaning, planning meals, and shopping most of the day. We are unbelievably squeezed these days.

And I reject the notion that the clamoring mob is causing the out of balance condition. This man has LOOTED the value of America and largely pissed it away into slush funds and black holes. Raising taxes isn’t going to do much of anything to address that. But it sure as hell WILL depress economic activity even more, and put yet another hole in all of our budgets that we’ll have to cut, cut, cut to fill.

As a matter of fact, I agree with basically nothing in your post.
