Live thread to cover today's GOP caucus. News, predictions, opinions, totals, and the like.
Will be heading out about 4 pm or so to get our site ready and do a final review with the precinct chairs. I expect it to be bigger than 2008 with very heavy turnout and we are preparing for that.
We are also ready for disruptions. They simply won't be tolerated. The state party sent us a memo saying if there's any trouble call the cops immediately. Anyone trying to cause problems is going to get a rude awakening.
My predictions of the outcome are a narrow field with about a 10 point spread for the top five with Bachmann far behind in single digits:
Santorum - 24 Romney - 22 Paul - 20 Perry - 17 Gingrich - 14 Bachmann - 4 The Rest - 1
Think things are still in flux and many won't decide till right to the wire, so I'm not terribly confident of any predictions.
Congratulations! That was a great showing by Santorum and I hope he can keep the momentum going with a decent showing in NH. I think Perry’s out and if so I hope Santorum does well.
FOUR ZOTS?! Wow.... Viking kitties are putting in some overtime!
IMHO, he should see where this goes and not be too quick to give it up. I'm wondering how many of his votes would go to his fellow Texan Ron Paul. That thought should give him pause.
Being Pro-homosexual and Pro-Abortion are not conservative values.
Try again.
Yes. Some of us are getting a little tubby from all the Viking Kitty chow.
I can’t stop laughing at the “dog laughing” posted by 50mm! That is a new one to me and it is hysterical!!
I wasn't even thinking about the Dems. Funny, but I never think much about their presidential politics. They don't play the same game on their side of the aisle, as we do on ours. Different fish.
I'd have to look up who the last Republican was, who won Iowa and went on to win the nomination.
and you kooks for Paul think having sex with anything which goes, getting rid of laws for the sex age and marrying a dog plus making all drugs legal and having crack houses next to school is more important.
and you wonder why you lot are looked as as kooks, you only care about sex and drugs so get frigging real, get off your planet, and get a grip of your life.
get real kook.
all you kooks think is important is getting all drugs legal and having sex with anything which has a hole you sick freaks plus marrying that you can have sex with including kids, animals and same sex.
Your tag line is saying getting liberals enraged, you are more liberal than many liberals and even more liberal than most Dems .
Your nutcase candidate the frail old looking man who has only passed one bill in all of his time and now on his 3rd attempt to get a nomination of which you have no right to get as you need to run on the libertarian ticket not a republican one and why come on these conservative websites anyway as you are not a conservative or a republican.
GO AND FIND A NUTCASE LIBERTARIAN SITE AND RUN ON A LIBERTARIAN TICKET INSTEAD OF USING A GOP PLATFORM.
Then you can all bonged up, get high and go and have sex with what ever you want sicko’s

Amen, my FRiend. Amen. with both Perry and Bachmann seemingly out, things are certainly getting interesting this morning aren’t they?
May God bless.

I don't grant your point... lots of religiously motivated Muslims are perfectly willing to let their children starve rather than accept American help.
Secularists are dead wrong if they think evangelical and fundamentalist Christians are somehow less committed to their core beliefs than Islamic fundamentalists. The difference is that we don't blow ourselves up with suicide vests; we focus on our families and our churches, and when possible, we vote to get rid of bad leaders.
But let's say your point is valid. Show me where in the United States people's children are “slowly withering away from hunger” because parents have no jobs. Between school lunch programs and food stamps, our lowest-income categories have a disturbing tendency toward being overweight if not obese.
We aren't anywhere close to the point that social issues conservatives have to make a choice between their faith and feeding their kids. There have been times in history that has been the case, but it's not modern America.
Yes Tatt.... We will win this one on OUR KNEES!!!!
If the conservative movement is made up only of those who subscribe to Free Republic;s manifesto, then it is a small movement indeed. And it seems you have missed the point I made once again. You claim a large conservative plurality based on the 40% self identification in the Gallup Poll. My point is that many people self identify as conservatives who DO NOT subscribe to all the tenets of Free Republic’s manifesto. That 40% number is,I believe, accurate, but not in any way descriptive of a singular solid political or social movement. Here’s a thought to consider. In November I will vote for any candidate who appears on the GOP ballot line for POTUS. I will do that without any hesitation. Can you say the same?
Hey, a zotfest.

With an eight-vote statewide margin of victory anything is possible — both the Romney and Santorum campaigns knew for several hours the victory would boil down to a few dozen or at most a hundred or so votes and people have been known to do bad things when pressured — but a three-hour delay in a manual vote count would not be unusual. I've seen hand-counts run for much longer that that.
What do you do with a ballot that isn't clearly legible? We'd like to think voters are clear in who they want, but the simple fact of the matter is voter intent is not always obvious. How about a situation where a caucusgoer decides to argue about something, delays the caucus, and the chairman decides to be gracious and let the caucusgoers debate things rather than use a heavy hand to move things along?
On the other hand, rather than speculating about possible fraud, what about a situation where a designated representative for a candidate learns via cell phone how close the race is statewide, and out of an abundance of caution, decides to ask that the manual vote in his caucus be double-checked?
Add in communications delays, and a three-hour delay seems quite reasonable.
The hand of Zot has landed mightily....and who DIDN’T see THESE coming! :)
“The Paul punks and the leftists are soulmates.”
That too!
I’ve had some of my best tummy-aches-from-laughing courtesy of 50mm. He’s a great guy with a wonderful sense of humor and some wicked-good photoshop skills.
I’m sure that there will be more to come as well.
I made a small breach of protocol by including RayTheSpook, who got it on another thread, but doing my first multi-zot post with more than two zottees was so much fun that I couldn’t stop.
