I gave my Grandson a pellet pistol for Christmas this year. It is a Crosman 1377. I also included two pair of shooting glasses.
He is only 8 but his parents will supervise him until he is responsible enough to use it on his own. I actually doubt he could pump it up more than one or two pumps right now.

Couple of interesting tidbits about the film; “A Christmas Story” was made, in part, because of Bob Clark’s success with the teen flick “Porky’s.” When the latter film did well at the box office, the studio gave the go-ahead for a project considered less bankable, a Christmas film based on the stories and monologues of humorist Jean Shepherd.
Additionally, Clark though Jack Nicholson would be ideal for the “Old Man,” but never pursued him because they couldn’t afford Nicholson’ salary. Ironically, someone pitched the project to Nicholson and he was very interested in the part, but Clark was never told and hired Darren McGavin instead. He commanded a much lower salary, but his fee was still one of the largest items in the budget.
I have had one for around 40 years. I used to regularly pump it to 12 tho they said not to exceed 10. I have noticed some small changes but it is basically still the same gun.
On my old one you have to place the pellet in the chamber then cock it before or after pumping. On the newer ones pulling back the bolt also cocks it. I also bought a newer one for myself. I like the mechanism on the newer ones tho the old one has a little better workmanship.
