Bill Maher may be anti-religion, but he's got faith in one thing: Herman Cain won't be the the 2012 Republican Presidential nominee.
Maher bet CNBC correspondent Michele Caruso-Cabrera $1 million that Cain won't earn the GOP nomination, and shook hands on the wager during Friday night's taping of his HBO political comedy show Real Time with Bill Maher.
Caruso-Cabrera was arguing that Cain's "incredible likeability factor" could carry him all the way when, Maher snarked back that he'd put a million dollars down against her one dollar that Cain won't win the nomination because Republicans can't deal with a non-white candidate.

> Why would they want to pay 9% sales tax on top?
Because the 9% sales tax would replace the SS and Medicare taxes.
That means all the drug dealers and welfare cheats have to pay into the system whenever they buy their cars, large screen TVs, iPods, iPads, laptops and digital SLR cameras
You have doubts about this?
And that's 9 percent on TOP of whatever state and local sales taxes are paid. In some states that could amount to a 20 percent or higher tax burden.
And the whole idea of inserting a federal tax and its coercive enforcement mechanisms into the sale of every package of tea sold in this country ought to have the Tea Party faithful recoiling in horror. But it's not. They love it! "It's 9-9-9! Give me some MORE government with my tea. I Cain't get enough!"
Idiots.
Gee, the opinion of some anonymous FReeper or my economics degrees coupled with Art Laffer, Paul Ryan and Club for Growth.
I don't think you are on solid ground.
If you support someone else, that is fine. It does not give you the right to attack the conservative dream of getting to a flat or fair tax system.
How much does that translate to in total revenue?
A 9% additional tax on consumption will reduce consumption and encourage wide spread cheating and a black market.
The Feral Gov't takes in 3 trillion a year and spends 4.
SS and Medicare tax is at about 18% on everybody who gets W-2 income, but the worker only sees about 10% of that taken out of their paycheck, which is the employees contribution.
I would be getting a 1% tax cut and the employer would pocket the 7.5% that he used to pay towards SS for me.
Sounds like a good deal for the guy running the pizza joint.
I think people need to cool their jet’s on Cain’s 999 plan. If Herman can win the POTUS this plan will never pass. It will though spark the debate on a flat tax which is good. Him having 999 starts that conversation.
Spoke with a Tea Party friend of mine the other day post the debate and we were discussing Newt coming from behind on the outside....
We noted yes, Newt is doing good and is brilliant, but my friend who is more tempered than me in terms of what is do-able, I tend to think more out of the box, he mentioned Newt as VP...
Why? My friend is a huge Herman suppporter going back 1.5 years now when he started visiting the Tea Parties here in Michigan. He also noted, Herman has not been in Gov't. Newt has, and knows the levers of power and procedures to get things done and also how screwed up things are.
Newt would be the same type of "DC" assest that Cheney was to GWB. GWB might have been Governor, but he didn't know the ways of DC. Our guess is Cheney helped in that area more than we know.
Seriously think about it, it may work better than we realize, they are both idea guys but I don't see them butting heads, they may actually see things eye to eye.
Or until the Newt Gingrich and the rest of the Republican old white guys kill them.
IF Cain does win the nomination, you can bet this scumbag won’t pay up. He’s disingenuous.
> Sounds like a good deal for the guy running the pizza joint.
Except that he has no loopholes on his 9% tax.
It evens the playing field between large corporations that have a phalanx of legal luminaries to reduce their tax burden to less than 9% and the mom & pop pizza parlor that’s paying about 20% PLUS payroll taxes.
“His 9-9-9 plan is seriously flawed.”
That’s an understatement. It guarantees funding for an already gigantic run-amuck federal government as far into the future as the eye cas see.
So in your opinion, in order to be President, one has to have been a politician, and not just an evil rich business man?
Cain's college degree in Math, his service in working for the Navy his success in business and his 40 plus years of marriage give him no experience in being able to lead people and make decisions.
The President never shoots a gun or flies a plane that drops the bombs, he only has to have the moral conviction and common sense in the interpretation of conflicting advice, to know when to tell others to do so.
Other than the fact that Cain has never been a politician {which I view as a plus}, what else makes him, in your well thought out opinion, "not ready for prime time".
His money is safe.
DUDE, Newt is about making money, that is it. THat is all, complete and whole. Take a look at his PAC . They shake down little old ladies for their money, and do nothing. THERE IS NO WAY people would vote for NEWT. ZERO. Move along.
I do like Mr. Cain’s plain speaking style. I’ve had enough of this PC crap and politicians always tip toeing around certain groups because they don’t want to offend them and lose their votes. So what if Mr. Cain doesn’t have “experience?” We had an “experienced” politician and community organizer as president. How well did that work out?
He’ll never pay up if he loses. They lie - just ask the “POS-in-Chief” who said he wouldn’t run again if he couldn’t fix the problems in one term.
