Middle class families who have a mortgage and itemize deductions already pay about 10% income tax on their gross income.

Why would they want to pay 9% sales tax on top?

You forgot to add in the 7.5% they pay in payroll taxes. That brings them to about 17.5%. Then you can also factor in the benefits of the other taxes that will be eliminated.

I'm fairly middle class, and I've run the numbers for myself. It is pretty much tax neutral for me.

I've also been talking to some business owners (small businesses) just to understand this better. They will benefit from this plan better than the average joe. This will allow them to become more competitive in their markets (ie. lowering the prices on their products), which will in turn make their products more enticing to the average American consumer.

This along with some aggressive changes in our foreign trade policies, in my opinion can only have a positive effect on our economy.

Unfortunately, the last to benefit will be the poor. They will have no relief until the economy turns around.

If the poor are not on food stamps etc they will benefit as the HIDDEN taxes they pay on goods are removed or lessened

A world without gazillions of IRS auditors. Maybe a couple of IRS buildings in toto, of a total of 4 floors max: one for office people and one for systems people.

Drastic reductions for paperwork, forms, tax compliance departments, trainings on new tax laws, paper and printing contracts, distribution/mail logistics, and time to deal with all the cr@p you jump through now.

This is a concept.
