The global economic impact of the five leading chronic diseases -- cancer, diabetes, mental illness, heart disease, and respiratory disease -- could reach $47 trillion over the next 20 years, according to a study by the World Economic Forum (WEF).
The estimated cumulative output loss caused by the illnesses, which together already kill more than 36 million people a year and are predicted to kill tens of millions more in future, represents around 4 percent of annual global GDP over the coming two decades, the study said.
"This is not a health issue, this is an economic issue -- it touches on all sectors of society," Eva Jane-Llopis, WEF's head of chronic disease and wellness, said in a telephone interview.

The world GDP is estimated at $55Trillion dollars. Assume a maximum tax base of 20% collected....it is only $11Trillion worldwide, and completely inadequate for maintenance of social services obligations worldwide much less short term interest payments on long term credit derivatives, swaps rollovers, and the expansive demands of govt administration. As for the US, what has Congress been smoking?
$47Trillion in health care costs by 2030 is something that will not be dealt with at all.
Our 5 biggest financial institutions alone have $223Trillion ( US Comptrollers 2010 figures) in derivative risks, are collectively worth on a liquidation basis about $7Trillion, and have liabilities over $13Trillion by some reports. The figures do not have to be more than estimates to show that global matters are ...unmanageable.
Healthcare will not make it to 2030 as we know it.
I have a chronic disease. At 50. No insurance. Now severely underemployed. I’ve been trying like a MF for the last few years to make things right for my family. Ain’t looking for charity, sympathy.
Current remission is at 95% success rate with the newest latest bestest drug therapy.
It is now out of my reach.
Not whining, just saying, this is life. Don’t know how much longer I have. Don’t care, except I would like to spend as much time with my grandbabies as possible.

You could make arguments of how much “feeding the world’s population” will cost, or how much it will cost to cloth them, or give them shelter, etc — why are they picking on healthcare?
Healthcare creates jobs — doctors, nurses, medications, testing equipment, etc. Healthcare is 1/7th of the US economy. It’s a business.
Healthcare and medicine are businesses. The only reason to whine about it’s cost, is if say government will pay for all of it, i.e., have a single payer socialized medicine. And of course the logical next step is to let people die or kill them, so they don’t use resources.

Generally unknown is the fact that the term and application of Managed Care was invented in pre-WWII Fascist Italy for the benefit of the industrialized Italian North, dragging in the un-industrialized South with it. We have suffered from the Italian influence combined with notions of marxist, collectivist healthcare and Obamacare has combined it all in a monstrous schematic to be integrated with the DHS, IRS and 157 other executive branch functions within the Fed Res housed and funded Consumer Financial “Protection” Bureau.

Ask yourself: “Why won't they let insurance/medicare cover consultation/treatment with Naturopthic doctors that have, first, a medical degree? Maybe because, first, they often head OFF major illness and, second, by treating the cause instead of the symptom, the patient gets well with much less expense - less money spread around?
What is the gov’t/medical profession doing about the adulteration/poisoning of our foods with chemicals/pesticides, etc, that are making us deathly ill in the first place. (They are all deeply in bed with MOnsanto, the worst of 'em.)

Capitalism is making us live longer than previous generations.
Chronic diseases that before the before the 20th century were rare (or rarely diagnosed) are now common. They are now common because they are diseases associated with age or overeating and a sedentary life style.
Capitalism has raised the standard of living to the point that diseases once afflicted only the wealthy are now a plague on the poor.
As I said above many of these chronic diseases may not have been diagnosed in the poor. This I point out because capitalism is also the cause of this higher instance of these diseases being diagnosed. Capitalism has raised the standard of living to the point that almost anyone can afford to see a doctor on a regular bases. Before the later half of the 20th century only the wealthy could afford to see a doctor for anything less than an major life threatening illness or perhaps not even then.
Yes my friends capitalism is the bane of humanity.
