Its been three years since former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin made her splash onto the national stage as Sen. John McCains running mate in the 2008 presidential election. And since then she has acquired a very loyal following. But is that helping or hurting her?
On Tuesdays The OReilly Factor, conservative columnist and author of Demonic: How the Liberal Mob Is Endangering America, Ann Coulter expressed her concern over the Palin phenomenon. She was asked by substitute host Laura Ingraham if Palin can maintain her status as a tea party favorite by stringing people along about her potential 2012 candidacy.
Maybe not, Coulter said. Newt Gingrich carried it on for 15 years and I kind of think that might be what were getting here, largely because of the polls. I mean, you just showed the Fox News poll, Gallup took a poll, I dont know five, six months ago, showing that not quite as high as 74 percent, but 65 percent said they would never definitely, positively, ever vote for Sarah Palin I might add, that oh, its the medias fault and they attacked her and saw her as a threat, all of which I believe is true.
Coulter pointed out that conservatives are reluctant to criticize Palin for fear of a backlash and spoke about her own experiences.
Most Americans dont want Sarah Palin for president, Coulter continued. But shes become sort of the Obama of the tea party. Shes just the one to a certain segment of right-wingers and the tiniest criticism of her, I think many of your viewers may not know this no conservative on TV will criticize Palin because they dont want to deal with the hate mail. You say her voice is a few octaves too high or perhaps Michele Bachmans speaking voice is more modulated and you will be inundated with enraged emails.
But Coulter said that the loyal following Palin has could be a liability in the long run.
No, I agree and I think shes terrific at what she does, but I tend to agree with you, Coulter said. I got sick of it with Newt Gingrich too, fish or cut bait because you are ginning up this group of Americans who will not even consider anyone else. You know, we used to all love Sarah Palin conservatives like me for her enemies. Im starting to dislike her because of her fans
I think shes bright, but her good points do not seem to be in the direction of running for president. I sort of wish just like Newt Gingrich, just run so we can get this over with.
They can’t really touch Palin (steele spine) but they can sure go for the jugular (supporters) if we let them by falling for phony polls, phony trolls, and phony fears.
Only God is all things to all people.
We actually get to choose our leaders, and I choose the most fearless, least intimidated, most confident, creative, motivated, principled leader on the scene so far; the tried-and-true proven, experienced, trench fighter.
My choice is Sarah Palin, through and through.
What you see is what you get (and what you don’t is better yet!)
LLS
I know. Let's get the old Coulter Worship Cult engine started again! We can even borrow her poster from last year's Homocon! Will that make you happy, firebrand?
Just think. The poster for 2011 could be Abortioncon or even Obamacon! Whaddaya say we all just give up our principles in order to win?
Coulter’s point to me was that Palin’s supporters are so annoying that they cause her to have a lower opinion of Palin herself.
And I agree with her to the extent that some of Palin’s fans are annoying.
*burp*
[chuckles] [smiles]
I didn't need a poll to see which way the wind was blowing in 2008. From the moment our side chose Elmer Fudd McCain to face off against the young and charismatic Ooooh Ooooh Obama, I knew it was curtains for our side, and said so at the time.
Without Palin on the ticket, it would have been an historic landslide in the Democrats' favor.
And tell me that you weren't surprised that the polls favored Obama anyway? Surely, that came as no surprise to you, on the heels of eight years of non-stop Bush bashing by the radicalized media. Perhaps you also failed to notice how unashamedly in the tank for Obama they all were.
if Sarah Palin is not standing at the podium next Summer giving her nomination speech, will some of you admit to being wrong or will this place be poisoned by conspiracy talk and sour grapes?
People are going to react to the outcome of the primary, no matter who wins. If Sarah Palin walks away with it (as I believe she will), some Perry supporters are going to be so perturbed that they'll raise the roof about it. Same thing will happen if Perry is the last one standing.
It might just be best to take a break from the forum right after the nomination vote and let the wailing and gnashing of teeth go by you.
Keep in mind that is just ONE poster's comments.
“Just the palinites keeping it classy and showing their utter ignorance of irony while proving her point.”
Says the man that has dogpiled Christians for expressing their faith on a public forum, types “TM” aside Palin’s name more often than not, mocked her family members, questions her personal integrity and has a string of attacks on record that I STRONGLY recommend everyone click on his past posts to see..
If you want to count numbers WTC, that “TM” cattiness of yours went well over 70 in one recent month alone so spare us the self righteous crap.
Classy? You couldn’t buy it if it was for sale if your posting history is anything to go by.
Try responding to the statement I made, rather than your own train of thought.
Bottom line: take all of the polling data you see with a generous grain of salt. Don't rely on that data as your sole source of information to gauge voter sentiment. Polls should be just one of several metrics you use to take the pulse of the public.
Time and time again, they've proven to be unreliable for the purpose of predicting winners and losers this early in a primary. That said, they are VERY useful for the purpose of steering voters' perceptions of candidates.
Hey, we Frepers are all about anti-TERRORISM. And just what would you know about FR’s past with that sign-up date? could it be that you got tossed once before?
Because Americans like GunRunner tend to steer their votes toward whoever the polls tell them is leading, that inherent power to influence is of too great a value to remain uncorrupted by the ruling class.
It's a crying shame that Americans allow these private companies to do their thinking for them.
Nice choice on the photo! You betcha! That’s one of the things I really like about Sarah Palin. She speaks directly to the people in her folksy vernacular. Is that why you like Ron Paul or is it something else?
Some Perry fans are annoying, some Palin fans are annoying, some people in general are annoying.
Let me know when she writes an article about how annoying Perry fans are. They are the one who have turned me against Perry.
No, zot all the trolls and pot stirrers that just want to start flame wars and spout discredited BS. There’s no fealty involved to any pol.
If you fit that category, there’s probably a kitty in your future.
Ha! And your evidence of this is.....
Didn't think so.
I'm sorry the poll numbers don't jive with your personal preferences. Hate the message, not the messenger.
My choice is Sarah Palin, through and through.
Absolutely.
It would be interesting to see the reactions of some of those conservatives who don't support Palin, if they were watching a similar contest from the outside, looking in. I have a feeling that if they weren't personally involved or invested in the outcome of the contest, they'd actually choose the best candidate for the job with an independent and unbiased mind.
