Coulter: Palin's fans are a liability, she has become 'the Obama of the tea party'
The Daily Caller ^ | September 6, 2011 | Jeff Poor

Posted on 09/06/2011 7:56:28 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

It’s been three years since former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin made her splash onto the national stage as Sen. John McCain’s running mate in the 2008 presidential election. And since then she has acquired a very loyal following. But is that helping or hurting her?

On Tuesday’s “The O’Reilly Factor,” conservative columnist and author of “Demonic: How the Liberal Mob Is Endangering America,” Ann Coulter expressed her concern over the Palin phenomenon. She was asked by substitute host Laura Ingraham if Palin can maintain her status as a tea party favorite by stringing people along about her potential 2012 candidacy.

“Maybe not,” Coulter said. “Newt Gingrich carried it on for 15 years and I kind of think that might be what we’re getting here, largely because of the polls. I mean, you just showed the Fox News poll, Gallup took a poll, I don’t know – five, six months ago, showing that not quite as high as 74 percent, but 65 percent said they would never definitely, positively, ever vote for Sarah Palin… I might add, that oh, it’s the media’s fault and they attacked her and saw her as a threat, all of which I believe is true.”

Coulter pointed out that conservatives are reluctant to criticize Palin for fear of a backlash and spoke about her own experiences.

“Most Americans don’t want Sarah Palin for president,” Coulter continued. “But she’s become sort of the Obama of the tea party. She’s just the one to a certain segment of right-wingers and the tiniest criticism of her, I think many of your viewers may not know this – no conservative on TV will criticize Palin because they don’t want to deal with the hate mail. You say her voice is a few octaves too high or perhaps Michele Bachman’s speaking voice is more modulated and you will be inundated with enraged emails.”

But Coulter said that the loyal following Palin has could be a liability in the long run.

“No, I agree and I think she’s terrific at what she does, but I tend to agree with you,” Coulter said. “I got sick of it with Newt Gingrich – too, fish or cut bait because you are ginning up this group of Americans who will not even consider anyone else. You know, we used to all love Sarah Palin – conservatives like me for her enemies. I’m starting to dislike her because of her fans… I think she’s bright, but her good points do not seem to be in the direction of running for president. I sort of wish just like Newt Gingrich, just run so we can get this over with.”

What you won't find is Establishment Republicans coming to her defense and certainly none of the other candidates.

When Pete Rouse's well funded and well coordinated wrecking crew tried to pin her down and destroy her in Alaska in 2009, the establishment Republicans did NOTHING to help her, and in fact stood silently on the sidelines cheering the anklebiters on as they merrily piled up one frivolous lawsuit after another against her. She was all alone up there, and ultimately thwarted the DNC on her own by resigning and taking the fight to the national level.

And after Tucson, not one prominent Republican (except Rush, Mark Levin, and Giuliani, of all people) stood up to defend her when the libs were labeling her a murderer, even those people she had just helped get elected in November 2010. And certainly not Perry, Bachmann, Huckabee, and Romney and the rest of the wannabes.

So screw them!

We'll see what happens after her announcement, and how she fares during the real primary. Personally, I believe she's going to dominate the contest, and I don't say that out of simple devotion and belief in my candidate. I've seen enough to cause me to conclude that she can't be beat by anyone currently running.

What makes you think that? I have heard this from some rabid Palin supporters in a few of their lucid moments. You can ignore all the polls, be paranoid that they are all rigged but I heard all this before. 2008, right up to election day. Search the archive here, HillBuzz(Log Cabin Pubbie) even coined a phrase "Eeyore Republicans", a person who believed the polls. Well some of the polls hit it right on the head, McCain and Palin got their heads handed to them. I could be wrong and the PalinBots could be right, in my case would be a win\win, because I happen to like Sarah Palin very much. But if I am right and more than likely I am, if Sarah Palin is not standing at the podium next Summer giving her nomination speech, will some of you admit to being wrong or will this place be poisoned by conspiracy talk and sour grapes?

Honor and honesty should be “way, way up on the list of important principles”, not loyalty. Loyalty leads very smart people to do very stupid things.

Align yourself with honorable people and you never have to worry about loyalty.

Jim needs a rudy styled root-out.

Oh by all means. Zot everyone who does not swear eternal fealty to Palin.

Then if she doesn't run, those of us who have ridden the lightning will enjoy watching the exploding heads via lurk mode.

I believe you used the term “Palinstilians”.

I advised him yesterday that continued use of that term could be deterimental to his FR posting privileges.

He continued using it.

So now it went from 'could be' to 'would be'.

Since I agree with the things that Sarah says, I'd go with her.

But I don't remember her voice at the convention in '08 sounding like that. I don't know if she was trying to yell over the crowd or what, but it was mildly unpleasant.

Alex, you’re losing contact with reality. She made it abundantly clear that she is in it for the ring on saturday.

Ping for Saturday, then!

This is not debatable.

Ha! Of course it's debatable. You honestly expect people to believe that all eight of those polling companies are in on a conspiracy to have Sarah poll a distant third? Is Karl Rove paying them or something?

Nice try.

I like that. BB. The acronym describes their brain size as well as their (sour) dispositions.

Yes I get it now and it is a pathetic attack at people who support her. Coulter has used it a couple of times and makes no sense. Sorry.

Pray for America

But she’s become sort of the Obama of the tea party.

Hmm, let's see.

Obama got where he is by affirmative action. Palin got where she is by her own efforts.

Obama came up through a corrupt political machine. Palin fought against a corrupt political machine and won.

Obama fights the concept of American exceptionalism. Palin embraces it.

Obama wants to spend more money. Palin wants to spend less.

I could write ten pages of where Palin is different than Obama. So Coulter's statement is waay off base.

Yet somehow, all of the hate mail Coulter will get from this is the fault of Palin supporters and not the fault of Coulter's absolutely idiotic and off-base comparison here.

So if anything, Coulter is the Obama of pundits. Because it's not her fault that she will get inundated for being wrong, it's the fault of those who will point out in detail how she is wrong.

I notice they are still pimping Coulter’s autobiography every time she shows up on FOX. Are sales really that bad?

She dates Bill Maher and Robert Guccione, the porn peddler. If my daughters or sisters did something like that, they would be instant pariahs.

I haven’t paid any attention to her since 2007 when she was pimping Mitt Romney and making the most vile insults and jokes about Fred Thompson, whom she detested because he voted against ONE of the Clinton articles of impeachment. (He voted for the other one)

She is a truly pathetic person who must have a rotten life. She is in no sense a conservative.

She got her first attention opposing Clinton and cracking obscene jokes about Lewinsky. She is no more than a shock jock-ette, an anorexic Howard Stern wannabe.

Not a fan of Ann, but she does have a point to a certain extent.

Yeah, let's all say Palin shouldn't even try to fight back against the media characture that has been created against her by campaigning for the GOP nomination.

All that will do is encourage the MSM to continue those methods against the eventual GOP nominee.

Palin has a history of taking down those who corruptly stand against her.

If she is truly the damaged goods that the polling indicates, her run for the GOP nomination would be short-lived.

I have a feeling that if she did get in the race, she would be able to reverse a lot of that polling because she would be able to contrast herself positivly against the other GOP candidates and Obama.

And given Coulter's history of supporting Romney, Coulter is probably trying to clear as many obstacles for the Mittster as possible.
