Coulter: Palin's fans are a liability, she has become 'the Obama of the tea party'
The Daily Caller ^ | September 6, 2011 | Jeff Poor

Posted on 09/06/2011 7:56:28 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

It’s been three years since former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin made her splash onto the national stage as Sen. John McCain’s running mate in the 2008 presidential election. And since then she has acquired a very loyal following. But is that helping or hurting her?

On Tuesday’s “The O’Reilly Factor,” conservative columnist and author of “Demonic: How the Liberal Mob Is Endangering America,” Ann Coulter expressed her concern over the Palin phenomenon. She was asked by substitute host Laura Ingraham if Palin can maintain her status as a tea party favorite by stringing people along about her potential 2012 candidacy.

“Maybe not,” Coulter said. “Newt Gingrich carried it on for 15 years and I kind of think that might be what we’re getting here, largely because of the polls. I mean, you just showed the Fox News poll, Gallup took a poll, I don’t know – five, six months ago, showing that not quite as high as 74 percent, but 65 percent said they would never definitely, positively, ever vote for Sarah Palin… I might add, that oh, it’s the media’s fault and they attacked her and saw her as a threat, all of which I believe is true.”

Coulter pointed out that conservatives are reluctant to criticize Palin for fear of a backlash and spoke about her own experiences.

“Most Americans don’t want Sarah Palin for president,” Coulter continued. “But she’s become sort of the Obama of the tea party. She’s just the one to a certain segment of right-wingers and the tiniest criticism of her, I think many of your viewers may not know this – no conservative on TV will criticize Palin because they don’t want to deal with the hate mail. You say her voice is a few octaves too high or perhaps Michele Bachman’s speaking voice is more modulated and you will be inundated with enraged emails.”

But Coulter said that the loyal following Palin has could be a liability in the long run.

“No, I agree and I think she’s terrific at what she does, but I tend to agree with you,” Coulter said. “I got sick of it with Newt Gingrich – too, fish or cut bait because you are ginning up this group of Americans who will not even consider anyone else. You know, we used to all love Sarah Palin – conservatives like me for her enemies. I’m starting to dislike her because of her fans… I think she’s bright, but her good points do not seem to be in the direction of running for president. I sort of wish just like Newt Gingrich, just run so we can get this over with.”

Jim has made a couple comments lately I’ve seen posted about that very thing. These people seem to enjoy poking the bear. Oh well... Can’t happen soon enough. It’s not like they haven’t been warned. I’m going to enjoy the more peaceful FR that results.

Thanks! Advocating for Palin for President inspires me.

I wore my new Palin 2012 t-shirt to a family reunion yesterday. I was prepared for the snide, negative comments but was quite surprised to hear only good comments. Once Palin announces, I’ll be using them a lot to start conversations to educate. I can’t wait!

Got mobbed by blind cult worship -”if” I remember things right right.- The kind they accuse us of...but real. Dunno if that was all of it but I do remember a lot of people losing their heads over the mere mention of her name on FR.

Ann's latest book, Demonic is a gift to our political cause. Each line is a treasure and speaks of a patriot's dedication to the freedom of this generation and generations to come.

Then why doesn't she get Sarah Palin? She is arguably American patriotism and courage personified. Makes absolutely no sense to me. Ann should by all rights be one of Sarah's biggest supporters.

The fact that Ann would go on national television spouting such demoralizing thoughts about Palin is downright mysterious, and says to me that something is terribly wrong with Ann.

I’ve not read demonic, but I heard an interview about it, and clearly it is a well researched work. Sadly, Coulter and those like her, often begin to believe their opinion is worth more than it actually is. Bill Mayher is also like that. You expect that sort of thing from liberals. Unfortunately, Ann wishes to garner the “intelligent respect” of the left, while keeping the adoration of those “conservatives” who think GOProud is a reasonable proposition. People like me, who believe there is no such thing as a homosexual conservative, are backward, intellectually challenged, and unfortunate to have to “deal” with. She lost me when she decided to be queen of the queens. But I still plan to read her book. Because, even though she would probably scoff at me, if she had to have a very long talk with me, I on the other-hand understand that true wisdom is sought not sold.

Coulter: Palin's fans are a liability

By and large, Palin's fans are Coulter's fans. She is sawing the limb she hangs from. She is attacking her own supporters. You'd think she'd be smart enough to realize that.

Palin’s supporters remember that, and they remember the vicious attacks on her on the part of not only the Obamists, but the Repub professionals who saw her as more of a threat than they did Obama himself.

Indeed! Do a word search on Sarah Palin sometime. Yesterday, I typed in the words >defended Sarah Palin<. Guess what, there were very few defenders showing up. Some of the most common ones were liberals like Jerry Springer or Alan Derschowitz. Quite a few links to Sarah defending someone or something, Gov. Walker being a main one. What you won't find is Establishment Republicans coming to her defense and certainly none of the other candidates.

I read through the speech yesterday, and thought it was patriotic good natured fluff.

Good natured fluff, huh? Unbelievable.

Damning with such faint praise is nothing more than a thinly veiled ad hominem attack on Palin. You out yourself as a snarling enemy with a silver tongue.

It is also a mystery to me why Ann is so hard on Sarah Palin. Maybe she does not want Sarah to split the vote and allow someone get nominated that she does not want. I can only guess.

She appears to be doing it intentionally (look at her progression over the last year)...thus creating a base on the “moderates” and the left to sell her books to when she finally gets Huffington Syndrome and declares that the Right got to “radical” for “even her”.

Imagine how many moderates and libs would pay to hear the story of that. “Story” being the operative word there.

It is my duty as a slobbering Palin cultist to evangelize the afflicted with the words of the goddess... Real fire and brimstone stuff. Perhaps some liberal sacrifice ;)

Now we're talkin! Ritual sacrifice to the Goddess!

('cept I don't like troll guts. They're green and icky and they smell just awful)

Oh please. Go have a Coke and a smile.

It was a good Labor Day speech. Patriotic fluff with no real specifics. You once again help prove Ann's point about some of her supporters.

Don’t worry, the Old Lady has the Chimera kept hungry for occasions just like this and he eats’em up REAL GOOD ;)

After all, good cultists like us have to have a little sacrifice don’t we? Gotta keep our image up! Who knows? Pretty soon someone like Coulter may hold us up as a pox on Conservatism and I’d hate to disappoint her.

It’s one thing to endure the Palin assaults from the Left, but the gratuitous noise here on FR is wearing thin.

Oh, that isn't the half of it. I had some PDSer wear me out the other day with the claim that we Palin supporters just recently colluded to execute a slash and burn campaign against any and everyone who even so much as questioned Palin.

And it was stated in the sincerest and most innocent of tones, too. I had to check my gag reflex, so that I could set the person straight on where and how this all started - and by whom.

I could hardly believe the poster was saying all that to me with a straight face.

Palin cultists prefer Pepsi. And we never smile. Just wanted to point that out. I figure that since you can’t tell the difference between Palin’s speech and fluff you’d need some pointers on the Cult of Palin as well.

had she turned her back on the person who elevated her to the national stage - she would have damaged her credibility as a person of solid, simple principles. Loyalty, is way, way up on the list of important principles.

Too bad so many are blind to that...

I certainly don't consider it messiah worship of Palin. With Obama, his "followers" knew absolutely nothing about him other than "hope & change" and they hated Bush. I've investigated and studied Sarah Palin's life and record inside out. There is very little I don't know about her. And I am a supporter, not a fan or a follower.

Same here...I give her the same critical eye I give anyone...but don't expect perfection. She hasn't disappointed me yet in any significant way.
