Sarah Palin tour comes to abrupt halt
Politico ^ | 08/15/2011 | Molly Ball

After just four days on the road, Sarah Palin’s bus tour is going dormant again.

In a note posted on her Facebook page Monday, Palin says she’s headed “back to Alaska for the start of the school year.”

What’s next for the former Alaska governor and 2008 vice presidential nominee? “While kids crack open their school books, I look forward to continuing my own writing and research on strategies and plans to help move our country forward,” she wrote.

Palin noted that she’ll be back on the road before long – she’s scheduled to keynote a Sept. 3 tea party rally in Waukee, Iowa, near Des Moines.

Her Facebook note didn’t mention it, but she’s also scheduled to headline an Oct. 7 rally with Glenn Beck in St. Charles, Mo., according to a local conservative talk-radio station’s announcement Monday.

The leg of Palin’s “One Nation” bus tour that’s now ending lasted four days, beginning midday Friday, when Palin appeared at the Iowa State Fair—just in time for her to catch the attention of the assembled national political media mob in town for the Ames Straw Poll.

On Saturday, she visited Ronald Reagan’s childhood home in Dixon, Ill., and his nearby alma mater of Eureka College. She was in Eureka when the straw poll results were released, and NBC News asked her what she thought of the results.

“The prediction was that it would either be Ron Paul or Michele Bachmann, because they spent a lot of time and energy to make sure they had delegates there who would cast those votes — so not really a surprise,” Palin told NBC, the only major news outlet following her in Illinois.

It has been known for several days that she planned to be back in AK for the start of the school year. Nothing ‘abrupt’ about the halt at all, but the MSM sure wants to make it look as though it’s something bad.

Do you think Palin is really running ?
She is enjoying her freedom and ability to travel at any time.
Would you trade in that kind of life ?

And Rove detests Sarah Palin, which is a plus for Palin in my book.

I agree with you. I think Palin is playing chess and looking many moves ahead.

She’s young, very young. She can build 5 more years of solid support as a kingmaker. She can rebuild the conservative movement in Congress and make more inroads as as a policy wonk type helping elect folks that will move these ideas through Congress.

Almost like a more effective Newt from 1994. Maybe she’ll run for Congress from Arizona. Become Speaker in 2016 or something.

Or just fundraise and have fun! I’m happy either way.

In 2008 I cut McCain off the sticker and had PALIN on ever since. Wish she would do one or the other. Am getting that same “teenage girl pr___ Tease” feeling.

I feel exactly the same way, even down to the bumper sticker still on the rear of my P/U!

2nd is Perry, the more Palin waivers the more steady Perry looks.

True, but I'm neutral to slightly negative about Perry -- can't get excited about him; gives me an uneasy feeling that I can't quite explain.

Karl does not really like Perry, goes back some time. As for Palin and Bachmann being on the same side? Hiring Ed Rollins to attack Governor Palin, not to mention what her campaign has been saying about Sarah in Iowa?

I could never support Bachmann, at least not with any joy, but it aint happening, she will not win Iowa and will shortly thereafter close down shop.

Sarah Palin or bust

Why do you assume Palin puts her own personal needs and desires ahead of things like serving her country?

Her words and deeds throughout the years have proven she acts with the heart of a servant.

50 posts and not a single person noticed that this bus tour only seems to surface just before a major announcement from another candidate and disappears just after.

Very interesting comment. What in the world would be the motivation to do that? Narcissism? Trying to keep relevant?

Hear! Hear!

I used to watch the two movie critics (Siskel and Ebert) a long time ago. The only way I knew for positive sure that I would truly enjoy a movie is if both of them gave the movie a "thumbs down".

So it is with Tokyo rove; if he "dislikes" a particular candidate on the republican ticket, chances are more than 99.9% that I will like them. He is a waste of time, airspace, and oxygen.

And one of the many reasons why I no longer watch or listen to fox.

It looks to me like she wants to say in the race without being in the race, for whatever reason.

Whether or not someone here supports a Palin candidacy, anyone examining this and saying she isn’t running is either blinded by wishful thinking or is completely clueless.

It’s an odd stealth race that may have worked if Perry hadn’t entered, but now he and Bachmann occupy the same space that Palin intended to breeze into later. The tease may have just taken a bit too long, akin to the Fred Thompson incident.

I wouldn’t agree with that. It’s just a hunch, but I think Bachmann’s support is going to prove to be pretty soft. With Perry, the more people get to know the real Rick Perry, the worse he’ll do. Visions of amnesty, Harriet Myers, and Dubai Ports will dance in the primary voters’ heads.

Fred Thompson didn’t have anywhere near the following or fundraising base that Palin does. He also didn’t have the energy she has. Romney is the one who should look out with Perry around. Perry’s true constituency in the Republican party are the ‘smarter than everyone else’ crowd who think that the rest of us rubes (meaning conservatives) can be duped into voting for a quisling who talks the talk. That’s been Romney’s milieu for time immemorial and if he loses it, he’s done.

Look at Perry’s record. He is NOT a Conservative.

Agreed. Going home for a family caucus, spending that special time together back home before things get really crazy, getting all the final arrangements in place, then it’s off to announce the first week in Sept. Sounds perfectly right to me.

There is one good thing about Perry: he's better than Mitt.

I'd would rather get stuck voting for the metrosexual from Texas than the one from Massachusetts.
