ARVADA, Colo. -- An 11-year-old Arvada boy was arrested and hauled away in handcuffs for drawing stick figures in school, something his therapist told him to do...
The school was aware that the boy was in treatment, determined he was not a threat, notified his parents and sent him back to class. His mother, Jane was shocked when Arvada Police showed up at their home later that night.
She says she told her son to cooperate and tell the truth, but was horrified when they told her they were arresting him and then handcuffed him and hauled him away in a patrol car.

It's really getting that way. The problem is that they have gone from this:
To this:
The moment he said he never talks to a cop, I knew the following would be bull intended to make normal citizens quavery.
If that’s what you fought a war for independence for, I think you took a wrong turning somewhere.
************************
We rose against government oppression and overreach.
These things need to be repeated, periodically, like weeding and vermin control.
There have been several wrong turnings in our history, to make various American government entities far more malignant and voracious than anything the Saxe-Coburg and Gotha dynasty ever accomplished.
"Good afternoon officer."
"No, I don't know why I'm being stopped."
"Here are my license and registration."
"Thank you."
These are a just a few things that any intelligent person is willing to say to a police officer. It can make a routine traffic stop go pretty smoothly.
"No, you cannot search my car."
"Do you have a warrant?"
"Am I being arrested?"
These are more phrases that can come in handy. The key idea is that making speeches about your innocence, providing helpful information and showcasing the fact that you have nothing to hide, are a model citizen, and have done nothing wrong -- this is just stupid behavior. It's much smarter to say as little as possible.
You seem to think that people are being advised to "play deaf mute". That is not the case.
Did the kid give one of the stick figures a gun? That usually is enough to get a kid a suspension and a referral these days.
“Overreaction”?? How Orwellian! Now isn't that cute P.C.? What clever New Speak!
CALL IT WHAT IT IS! CRUEL ABUSE!
( Yes, I am shouting, jumping up and down, and having a fit!)
I took him at face value... he never talks to a cop. If he later modifies that, he’s a worm and I don’t want advice from worms.
Well, if I’ve told you once, I’ve told you a million times — sometimes what people say needs to be “understood” rather than taken literally.
I think it is pretty clear that my comment was directed to this and similar situations when cops want to talk to you about something you may or may not have done.
So you had no need to listen to his EXTENSIVE legal argument, with quotes from legal scholars and concrete examples?
Ignorance is strength!
How about the follow up statement of the former Police officer who had conducted thousands of interviews with suspects?
No need to have facts and experience and legal arguments impinge upon your opinion!
Didn't know you had a law degree.
I took the nice prof at face value and shut him off.
You sit there and play deaf mute, and what do you think the trooper who thinks he saw you fail to signal will do?
And don’t be playing worm as the prof allegedly does later on in the video.
Also, dreamer, what attorney did you have vet this thing for you? I hope it wasn’t ACLU based.
“More raw material for the justice industry”
When I was still a part of it, I called it the ‘law racket’.
LOL, I grew up in the 40’s, if they arrested every kid that drew stick figures with guns, they’d have to build more jails than Levittown houses.
I think it is pretty clear that your post was perfectly clear without you now trying alter the meaning of something that has no other alternative meaning.
"NEVER, EVER talk to the cops. Nothing good ever comes from it. The only possible exception might be if you are the victim of a crime; and then you must still also be careful and seek out the advice ofan attorney."
The mom and kid got a free civics lesson.
As my defense attorney cousin has told me repeatedly over the years, the police officer is not always your friend.
You're still on the list of "Potential Collaborators when the Space Aliens Land"
