Gov. Rick Scott has turned down more than $2 billion in federal money for a high-speed rail project that would link Tampa and Orlando.
"The truth is that this project would be far too costly to taxpayers and I believe the risk far outweighs the benefits,'' Scott said this morning in a release announcing his decision to turn down the rail money.
Scott said he weighed three main points in deciding to turn down the money:

The liberal heads are exploding all over the internet with this announcement. He did the right thing. NO ONE will ride this thing except subsidized welfare recipients.

Every governor should go through their entire budgets to see how many other projects exist where taking the federal bait is not worth getting a barbed hook through your lip.

seems like Crist is pushing to rehab his image into a good little corporate democrat.
That’s exactly what drove New Jersey governor Chris Christie to cancel the ARC rail tunnel project a few months ago.
great ! ... How about a tax refund with that $2 Billion ... oh wait it’s not the TAXPAYERS money.. likely it is Ben Bernake’s “created” funny money... good Job Gov. Scott ! Now if every GOV would do this we might just get this spending thing under control a bit.. sadly this $2B is barley a drop of water in the OCEAN of DEBT !
Exactly. Temporary jobs for temp workers. Then they will be out of a job when they are done with the project. Then Florida will have to pay for their unemployment checks and the unions will kill us about jobs lost.
Nobody will ride it and it will be yet another money loser just like Amtrak. No thanks.
this is the train with the analysis that said it would be cheeper to hire a private car and driver FOR LIFE of the expected ridership.
As for the argument that Disney would use this, Disney has their own bus system they use and they keep their people on the Disney property.
So instead of the money being saved.. it's just being spent elsewhere.
Good. I’m very much in favor of improving our trains in Florida, but this was an absolute boondoggle. There was no need for the route and it was mystifying to me why they even thought of this.
I wonder what Congress critter was lining his pockets on this one? (It’s been in the works for years and years.)
