The race for the 2012 Republican nomination for President is becoming more concrete. GOP candidates made their pitches to the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington on Feb. 10-12 and a straw poll of attendees was taken. The Washington Post reports Rep. Ron Paul of Texas won the poll, with about 30 percent of the 3,742 ballots cast.
The poll doesn't say much as not one candidate received more votes than the other. Some of the biggest news from the weekend came from former vice presidential running mate Sarah Palin and she didn't even attend the conference. Palin hired former Bob Dole campaigner Michael Glassner as her chief of staff, signaling a possible run for the White House.
Now the speculation and discourse about Palin's politics will continue and gradually build to a formal announcement running for president (or not). Who would be Palin's ideal running mate should she win the Republican nomination? Here are some suggestions based upon traditional party tickets and even some like-minded individuals who would serve Republicans well in 2012.
Ron Paul would be ideal since he is from a southern state and can get a lot of voters in the huge Lone Star state. He could also galvanize more tea party voters and convince independents who lean to the right that Palin is a good idea. Paul will be 76 when the 2012 presidential election happens and then 80 when a potential first term is over. At least he'll only be vice president, but Paul will serve as a foil to Palin's youthful exuberance.
Sen. Jim DeMint of South Carolina is an excellent choice for Palin....

Palin/DeMint
Looks like she’s going to sit back and not announce her candidacy till the end.
There is no way she will sit out and not have her opinion heard.
But would be smart to allow a grand swell for her, make people think that she’s not going to enter, then
Bang, she enters.
There will be a spirited debate all aimed at Obama.
I like the idea of Christy in the mix. Christy/Palin?
Oh, HE** yes.
Palin / The Rent is Too Damn High
Palin / West
Palin / Bachmann
I agree. Adding West to the ticket will peel off some of the votes oblunder would get just because he’s black. Not to mention he’s a damn good man.
Here’s a thought. Palin/Congresswoman Giffords. Imagine the ulcers epidemic that one would produce. lol
You read the reported “incident”. correct? Then why didn't you recount it here instead of implying he was forced to retire. We who are conservative, already know of Col. West's bravery and character on behalf of his men during his tour in Iraq. In point of fact , his extracting intelligence by firing his side arm in proximity to a captured terrorist saved soldiers under his command and showed he put his men's welfare over his own. If things get worse in the middle east and the Islamic terrorism front as they already are, Col. West's behavior in Iraq will become an asset in a campaign. Your comments sir are disingenuous and reveal more about your character than Col. West's.
Palin/ Cain
(I trust Todd would keep him in line...)
Cheers!
Kings don't need elections.
Cheers!
LOL. I agree. Hope you didn’t get too flamed by the Palinistas.
“I like Sara but, if she runs, Jesus Christ could be her running mate and it wouldnt help.”
If she doesn’t run or get the nomination, it will be because nobody in GOP leadership has had the nads to stand up for her under the relentless and unprecedented hate barrage of leftwing idiots. She is constantly having to defend herself because of that. To me that is an unconscionable dereliction of duty by GOP leadership.
The mindset installed by the Stepford Wives media is that you are a laughable clown if you actually think Palin is a viable candidate and all lackeys will be ready to make fun of you. So go ahead and fold your tent because you are embarrassed. The rest of us know that we owe her for the gumption and leadership she is providing. For those who make fun of her, we will give them the Hawaiian good luck sign.
If she can beat the establishment, and can withstand the media attacks, then lets talk about her running mate.
Someone who is a strong conservative but not holding an already influential position. That means DeMint, Paul, Bachmann would be better for the movement where they are.
I think Bolton would be perfect.
Yes we all want two conservatives, but how realistic is it to imagine? Gov. Palin has a record of being able to work with moderates and democrats, so choosing a more moderate VP, as Reagan did, if needed might be a possibility to unite the party. What we know about her is that she values loyalty and honesty very highly. She will not pick anyone who has been backstabbing her. That puts Romney out. Huckabee can’t afford the pay cut. Republican voters will want a VP with some leadership creds and may want a VP with more foreign policy experience than Palin. This is why Obama chose Biden. We know that Biden is a bubble off plumb, but democrats saw him as very experienced in the Senate and in foreign policy. (Never mind that all of his opinions were wrong.)People that had questions about Obama could rely that reliably wrong Biden would be there to bolster him on foreign affairs. This would rule out T-Paw and Bachmann, Rubio and West. Huntsman’s work in the Obama administration would probably rule him out. Still in the mix are Newt and Giuliani. Newt is smart as a whip and very knowledgeable about the working of Congress, but has the political instinct of a rock. If given a project, he could probably accomplish it as well as anyone, but when it comes to deciding the right thing to do, he comes up short. Giuliani is a proven leader, a corruption fighter, and has been consistent in his support of Gov. Palin even though his views differ from hers on the social issues. He is a popular speaker and presents himself well in interviews. He has limited experience in foreign affairs and he would get opposition from many conservatives.
My conclusion is that her choice may be none of the above. Which one of them would have the stamina to run a high energy campaign and not slow the tempo? The VP candidate will need to be acceptable to the TEA party audience so expect to see the people who want to be considered showing up at lots of TEA party events.
What about DeMint? He’s conservative and from the South.

It’s too bad you missed Herman Cain, then
