The race for the 2012 Republican nomination for President is becoming more concrete. GOP candidates made their pitches to the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington on Feb. 10-12 and a straw poll of attendees was taken. The Washington Post reports Rep. Ron Paul of Texas won the poll, with about 30 percent of the 3,742 ballots cast.
The poll doesn't say much as not one candidate received more votes than the other. Some of the biggest news from the weekend came from former vice presidential running mate Sarah Palin and she didn't even attend the conference. Palin hired former Bob Dole campaigner Michael Glassner as her chief of staff, signaling a possible run for the White House.
Now the speculation and discourse about Palin's politics will continue and gradually build to a formal announcement running for president (or not). Who would be Palin's ideal running mate should she win the Republican nomination? Here are some suggestions based upon traditional party tickets and even some like-minded individuals who would serve Republicans well in 2012.
Ron Paul would be ideal since he is from a southern state and can get a lot of voters in the huge Lone Star state. He could also galvanize more tea party voters and convince independents who lean to the right that Palin is a good idea. Paul will be 76 when the 2012 presidential election happens and then 80 when a potential first term is over. At least he'll only be vice president, but Paul will serve as a foil to Palin's youthful exuberance.
Sen. Jim DeMint of South Carolina is an excellent choice for Palin....

PALIN/BACHMAN
unbeatable ticket
I agree, the whole article is just plain silly. C-PAC has just proven it’s own irrelevancy. The behavior of the Libertarians, meaning their treatment of Cheney and Rumsfeld, not the Gay Party, simply highlighted the important differences between the Libertarians and the conservatives.
C-PAK had their own little coming out party last week and it wasn’t a pretty sight. The fact that it occurred in the middle of the Egyptian crisis only served to re-inforce the important differences that the Libertarians have with conservatives. The Paulers have more respect and concern for the Muslims than they do the Israelis, and that is an insurmountable difference.
BARF. I'd rather give up Texas.
I don't see Palin agreeing to run for the second spot on anyone's ticket again. She's running to be at the head of the ballot.
I'm not familiar with the lady, and I confess to being a bit confused.
Are you suggesting that she would be a good running mate, or that she would have trouble running in the South?
Why do they fear her.
Because if she runs, she will inspire hundreds of credible Tea-Party minded primary candidates to run in GOP primaries, as well.
We have already witnessed what 87 new GOP congressmen can do.
Imagine what another 40 newbee’s in the house and 5 or 6 more in the senate will do.
Regardless of how she personally does in the primaries.
So, it depends on one’s definition of winning.
...I agree...she’s appealing but not the right choice...we need a real gut fighter this go around....nevermind trying to find a Reaganesque candidate....we need a Nixon...a real hard baller...Islam is coming.
Ron Paul would be ideal since he is from a southern state and can get a lot of voters in the huge Lone Star state.
Maybe William Browning should take a few moments and review the electoral results in Texas for Ron Paul when he’s made statewide runs. He’s a joke in a statewide race. However I don’t really think it matters who would be the VP nominee as Texas will vote in the GOP column for President and a win is all that is needed to secure the Texas EC votes. A Paul landslide isn’t necessary...LOL
That's the ticket!
Quadruple Barf......
“Rubio would also help carry the all-important state of Florida. He is 39 years old and would have just as much energy and spark to run a campaign along with Palin. The downside is that he, like Palin, doesn’t have much experience in actual politics.”
__________
Not much experience in actual politics? What planet has this ignorant Obama voter been living on? Palin has 19 years experience in local, state and national politics, including everything from city council to running for vice president and running a very successful PAC (that got a lot of conservatives elected in 2010). Rubio, despite his relative youth, has over 12 years experience, also at all levels of politics- local, state and national.

At least you got Jesus Christ’s name right.
But if you can’t even spell Sarah right you won’t give yourself much credibility ‘round here.
Terry Gilliam renounced his U.S. citizenship in ‘06, and he’d probably have run afoul of the residency requirement anyway. Michael Palin as a native-born Yorkshireman was right out already.
Of the 5 ro 6 speakers I heard - only Mitch Daniels actually laid out proposals for gov’t spending reforms - including SS and Medicare. Others just poked fun at Obama.
The red ink he termed the “new red menace”
