Scientists said yesterday that they have discovered a tiny genetic mutation that largely explains the first appearance of white skin in humans tens of thousands of years ago, a finding that helps solve one of biology's most enduring mysteries and illuminates one of humanity's greatest sources of strife.

Ha . . .I’m a mutant . . . .
Does this mean that I'm half mutant?
Yes, but it’s, uhhh, greasy. Ick.
It’s from all that dunking in the river stuff. Musta been chlorinated water. Did they have clorox then?
People are picking up mutations all the time. Radiation from atmospheric , ultraviolet or cosmic radiation or radioactivity can cause chemical changes in organic compounds, e.g., sunburn or the degradation of PVC pipe. When change occurs on DNA chain, and it is passed on to an individual’s descendants, its called a “mutation”.
The mutation usually has no effect on the host’s physiology but occasionally it does. Depending on the local environment the mutation could create a survival advantage or a survival disadvantage by affecting physical, mental prowess, or resistance to disease. Sexual selection is a factor (preference for blonde vs dark hair, slanted vs round eyes, or whether it’s cool to be smart or stupid).
Dark pigmentation is an advantage where the sun is intense, but the mutation causing depigmentation is an advantage in cloudy northern Europe because it benefits vitamin D absorption.
You understate the evil lurking within!
This is bold face hateful racism, aimed at Europeans, and the Christianity that has flowed from Europe (Once Known as Roman Empire).
This is evil racism aimed at destroying what we know today as Western Culture. Who is financing and propagating this hateful evil? That is the deeper question. Some Innocent researcher didn't just happen to assert these conclusion. The same kind of ‘scientist’ who brought us AGW are bring us this crap!
And, I don't understand why scientists are uncomfortable talking about those differences which are substantiated by rigorous, peer reviewed science.
THE BLUE PEOPLE OF TROUBLESOME CREEK
The story of an Appalachian malady, an inquisitive doctor, and a paradoxical cure.
by Cathy Trost
©Science 82, November, 1982
Six generations after a French orphan named Martin Fugate settled on the banks of eastern Kentucky’s Troublesome Creek with his redheaded American bride, his great-great-great great grandson was born in a modern hospital not far from where the creek still runs.
The boy inherited his father’s lankiness and his mother’s slightly nasal way of speaking.
What he got from Martin Fugate was dark blue skin. “It was almost purple,” his father recalls.
Doctors were so astonished by the color of Benjamin “Benjy” Stacy’s skin that they raced him by ambulance from the maternity ward in the hospital near Hazard to a medical clinic in Lexington. Two days of tests produced no explanation for skin the color of a bruised plum.
A transfusion was being prepared when Benjamin’s grandmother spoke up. “Have you ever heard of the blue Fugates of Troublesome Creek?” she asked the doctors.
“My grandmother Luna on my dad’s side was a blue Fugate. It was real bad in her,” Alva Stacy, the boy’s father, explained. “The doctors finally came to the conclusion that Benjamin’s color was due to blood inherited from generations back.”

Exactly. The discussion of the adaptation of a lower melanin content in northern latitudes (and southern latitudes in alternate low light continents) is to the correct point. There are several comments there that have it completely backwards. In lower light, there is less penetration to the inner skin layers where the chemical reaction of the conversion of cholesterol (NO!!) to the precursor compound to vitamin D, 7-dehydrocholestanol is caused by .....sunlight!!
The addition of vit D to milk has a history directly related to the amount of sunlight ANY person was able to get, black or white, in areas of great pollution or reduced sunlight. You have correctly explained that the gene coding for the melanin pigmentation selectivity has been identified. The gene has to be “triggered” by something, and that something is the amount of light, or in the case of high melanin production, too much light. The net result is that too much vit D KILLS a person. There is a lot about vit D (fat soluble) that is generally poorly understood. But a fast test for white folks is.. drink a half gallon of vit D supplemented milk and then go get a mild sunburn. You will have a massive vit D overdose headache very slow to get rid of without major aspirin use.
Now get to work explaining this guy.
My ancestors saved democracy and Western civilization at Thermopylae.
The WashPo libs can kindly kiss my white, Spartan ass.
One mutation that started with one single person? I thought all these racial, physical characteristics were adaptations to widely different climates and diet over many thousands of years.
Makes far more sense than one mutation in one person. So how is this ‘scientist’ explaining differences in facial features and hair texture and color, and eye color, etc.?
You’re too late. Michael Jackson already found it. However, now he’s gone the supply has recovered somewhat. Dilute is like Beirut— you know Beirut? He wuz a pretty good ball player.
So, THAT’s where bluegrass music came from.... the Fugates of Caintucky!!
That is nothing more than a shameless plea for a not-a-ping graphic, if I ever saw one!
Don't hold your breath.
Your wife appears to have spoken with my wife, too... I got the same answer!
Teenage Mutant Ninja Crackers!
Relax. It’s nothing but Obama-directed ‘Science’. He is of the Black Theology persuasion. We must find a way to stop this madness and take our country back.
the only thing mutant here is the scrambled brain cells of this “scientist”
