Wilmington, Delaware (CNN) -- Police have found homicide victim John Wheeler's cell phone, according to a taxi driver who was interviewed by investigators this week.
Athel Scott told CNN National Correspondent Susan Candiotti that police told him they found the cab driver's number in the phone of Wheeler, the former Pentagon official who was found dead in a Delaware landfill. He said investigators wanted to know how his number got there. Scott... says he told the police he didn't have any idea.
"I never got a call from the man. I don't know him... He's never been in my cab. I don't know how my number got in his cellphone," Scott says he told police...

I finally got this to play - I figured early in the morning w/o so much traffic would work.
It appears to be the same video AMW has - it re-runs twice ? And, at about 2:40 into the tape you can see the time skip/jump, so they did edit it, and it was film of the security video as you can see the camera shaking and following Jack.
Well, that seems be the case per the 'robbery' part and his brief case was taken. (Beyond being a victim himself here; given the volume of crime/drug crime. . .was he witness to one?)
Whatever the case, this was certainly a series of most 'unfortunate events' for John Wheeler; and in a rather short period of time. Sad that the only connection, thus far, for his getting help was made with 'security personnel' in parking garage. . .the worst turn, it appears; is his walking away.
Is there time limit per FOIA per autopsy discovery - or does it even apply?
We can be more than reasonably certain, that at least, much more is known here! (?)
What upset me all along the way was people's comments....homeless, drunk, dementia. Good grief...Since when does a homeless man wear a white shirt with a sports coat and maroon loafers??
Then I looked at who it was coming from and what they did about it....NOTHING!!! It's just how they categorize OLD people.
No..The link seems to be his son’s business (with a picture of his son). Nothing earth shattering. I just happened to stumble across the link.

I think the mom and bro thing was simply..."I got here because those two people were watching over me". We all do this when we escape disaster...or feel we lucked out...
John had obviously escaped with his life on the 29th.
Logically, the investigators are considering every possibility of how he was transported from Wilmington to Newark. Let's hope they are reviewing all security cameras on the route.
AS long as the case is being investigated and not solved the information will not be available through FoI. Not sure if it becomes a cold case. Maybe featured on one of the “cold case” TV shows asking for help.
BUT as of now IMO, still waiting for lab reports.
TIP: Probably handed him a $10 bill and said keep the change.
I'm guessing only one operator in the truck...like ours.
They plotted out the 10 sites and the pickup order....and it didn't make any sense....like he had backtracked.
Maybe look at tape from the week before and see if there's a different pattern?? Driver??
Certainly would spend a looooong time talking to the driver and get his cell phone.
If he starts at 4 AM...One would think that either he has a thermos or stops for coffee and donuts. Yuk... I've never seen a dumpster parked though in ana odd ball place....Tractor trailers...yes
Question...5 hours to empty 10 dumpsters which are relatively close to each other??
Spotters sort of infers that not all trucks are checked.
I want to consider if the driver of the truck was involved but he would LIKELY know that there were spotters.
But what if he was making a few bucks on the side and picked up garbage for a friend that night and basically...got used.
I think they have a lot of info...but trying to make a case is almost impossible unless there's a snitch....and that ain't gonna happen BECAUSE....In the middle of the night, everyone has the same alibi...I was sleeping...
good info...No one saw him fall out of the truck...an employee operating a grader happened to spot him.
So maybe, just maybe, John's body didn't come from any of those dumpsters.
Read it carefully...

The spotter saw it tumble..that means fall from the back ...of ... truck.
The trucks in our area cannot move forward without the cover closed and locked. Keeps trash from being blown out of the truck. If a piece of paper can't get out doubt if a 250# man could get put in. Since the containers are identical to the ones we use, I'm sure the lift and trucks are also comparable.
500 trucks a day go in and out of that landfill. That's about 1 every minute of an 8 hour day. We have one not too far away.
Like the supervisor said in the article, it's a miracle that someone even spotted the body.
Just like the 28th became the 29th as far as when John arrived in Wilmington from DC.
The fact that the autopsy was complete within 24 hours suggests (to me) that he had not been compacted so he may have been picked up at the end of the route.
I have also read sources have said he was not held against his will. Don't know how anyone knows that for sure. Put that with the statement it had nothing to do with his profession, I suspect it was meant to deflect away from matters of national security.
Those tox reports should be complete soon (as if they will be released to the public).
1st...The interview is with the supervisor.
2nd...There are actual quotes
3rd...It sets the record straight on how their spotters work.
It's been years since I've visited a landfill....but I do know that spotters means just that...."spot checking"...
Here’s a live link.

Thanks..On page 2 beginning with....That Wheeler’s body was discovered at all is something of a miracle....
I believe there's a job in between...a spreader...that evens the piles out prior to compaction.
For all we know...John could have been shoved out of the front seat of one of the dump trucks...and right now...that almost makes more sense.
I am wondering the same things. Their silence only makes me more curious.
As of right now, we can't account for the last 12 hours of John's life....but he must have left "someplace" where "someone" saw him and might have talked to him.
He wasn't walking home...It was 2 hours away and it was cold. Was he going for his car. A lot of these places hold a key for you. He might have simply been going to eat at a favorite place. Was their cheaper hotel/motel near the Amtrak??
Or was he going hunting for the creeps that robbed him the day before.
There's so many cameras all over the place, I'd say the police have "something". Maybe he even had DNA under his fingernails. Maybe they found a knife or gun in the landfill....naw...hoods love their toys...
