Wilmington, Delaware (CNN) -- Police have found homicide victim John Wheeler's cell phone, according to a taxi driver who was interviewed by investigators this week.
Athel Scott told CNN National Correspondent Susan Candiotti that police told him they found the cab driver's number in the phone of Wheeler, the former Pentagon official who was found dead in a Delaware landfill. He said investigators wanted to know how his number got there. Scott... says he told the police he didn't have any idea.
"I never got a call from the man. I don't know him... He's never been in my cab. I don't know how my number got in his cellphone," Scott says he told police...

Are you sure the phone was found during the Fire Marshall investigation in December, or was it found after Mr. Wheeler’s body was found.
Given the 'who' of this investigation and what could be 'implications'; seems they could move this one up the list - if they wanted to. Don't know; but not buying this nonetheless. . .

THe phone in the house across the road was not found until after they found his body. After two warrents had been issued for it. Possible by tracking it’s GPS. It was the phone that had the chip in it that made it active with his billing account. (Phones left in drawers have that chip removed) Two warrents issued. IMO one to find the phone, one to trace the activity on it.
Wheeler could not have sent off the smoke bombs. He didn’t arrive in the area until the next day. Probably bought his ticket on the 28th but didn’t use it until the 29th. (MY BIL does it all the time)
The news stories all changed about the time the cabbie informed the police he had picked him up on the 29th, To: “he wasn’t a suspect”, they were just hunting him to see if he had information. IOW if he saw/knew something.
They may have used the smoke bomb as a ruse to hunt for him because of the noise in the house, not answering the door or phone. By that time his cell phone was not working. IOW they were concerned for him.
His phone went dead on the 28th. It was the phone he had been using up to that point. Remember he was “stuck in NYC”. No doubt he didn’t have a charger with him. Probably stuck it in his briefcase. That’s why I suspect the briefcase was taken closer to his home, if not after he got home on the 29th.
28th attending meeting in DC (possibly worked late) bought ticket but missed train. Service decreases to one train an hour after 7:00 pm (Would you want to arrive late at night in that part of town?) Stayed in DC or at work, catching early morning train.
Here’s my time line of events for the 29th
* Arrive in Wilmington on train *8:?? AM (That train leaves DC very early)
* Picked up at station and delivered to hotel area (all documented)
* May have picked up material (briefcase) or placed material in/from his car at that time.
* Took Route 15 home.
* Was attacked by house invaders after he got home.
* (They may have knocked him out or otherwise detained him
* Took $120 from a hiding place at home or had in his pocket. Attack was not for money.
* Called cab from house or public phone.
* Shoe damaged caused by tussle or blisters by running.
* Walked to strip mall with pharmacy, thinking he missed the cab asked for a ride.
* Took route 15 or otherwise hitched to Wilmington, by that time the head injury had begun to cloud his thinking.
Don’t think he returned home after the 29th because of the attack there. He was trying to get away. Go to Philly, Go north to friends of family. If his keys were taken with the briefcase, he would not have been able to get into apartment in NYC knowing his wife was gone. Spent part of the 120 on a room, bought coffee early on the 30th. Spent the day trying to stay inside out of the cold and out of sight. Would like to check with route 15 drivers to see if he headed home after dark on the 30th.
I suspect he was killed closer to home and the perps not wanting to point the finger at house, dumped his body. A pick up truck parked near house would not be unusual. Nor would tarps. We don’t know why they knew it was a murder immediately.
Time will tell. This is NOT a TV show. Lab work, interviews, follow leads takes months. Perps were sloppy, they WILL catch them.
They are going to do a through complete job so that the perps are convicted. Sure they could hurry it, but certain lab (like DNA) takes a couple of weeks just to process even if they did move it to the top. Do you see the show with new FOX show with Judge Janine. She made the point that a second rape occur before they could get the DNA analised and matched on the first one. No one’s fault. It just takes time, unlike the TV shows.
Floor boards removal were a result of the first warrent to his house. The finding stated boot prints larger than Wheeler feet “NOT his” and floor boards in kitchen were removed at that time. It was a while before Biden put a gag on this warrent.
I think John's Blackberry was in the briefcase....John is a high tech guy...Surprised he doesn't have an Android...

THAT PHONE WAS NOT FOUND BY THE POLICE UNTIL AFTER THEY FOUND HIS BODY AND ISSUED WARRENTS FOR IT!

No the house has not been eliminated as a crime scene. First warrent took the floor boards as evidence of a crime. It also noted the workboots marks that did NOT belong to Jack.
BIden put a gag on the warrent as part of the investigation of Jack’s death. THE HOUSE IS PART OF THAT INVESTIGATION.
Lots of speculation; and do hope you are right on the ‘solving’ of this crime. This man deserves so much better ‘in death’ than he received. (Am wondering what his wife/family are doing? Living ‘back at home’ or elsewhere i.e. somewhere safer? Little/no comment from family.)
Like I said, I believe there was a workman and he was given a key by John...No breaking and entering. Happens every day!!
Once they located the worker (I'm betting he came forward), that was the end of the floorboard evidence.
Cabbie said when he got there...20 minutes later, John was not there...
I looked at a map...A little confusing...There is a 9th Street and 273 and a Route 9 and 273...Without a second reference...who knows what happened...
It stands to reason if something had spilled on the floor or embedded into the wood, it would have hit the sided of the cupboards or the front of the dishwasher.
Taking it step further, if, IF, we are seeing evidence of water damage repair, the yellow tape could have been placed by the repair person as a caution in case anyone came home. Yellow caution tape is sold at any local hardware store. So it is quite possible that the kitchen area was not part of the crime scene and Wheeler did not stay home because the water was turned off for repairs.
The logical questions are did anyone see a repair truck? Was Wheeler aware of the problem before became to New Castle? Did his wife order the repair or was it ordered by someone paid to check on the house during their absence?
Of course, we can only speculate, but it is something to consider.

Also believe that Wheeler - cell phone addict and with high level security clearance and as Gov. "Defense Consultant"; among other job descriptions - would NEVER share his cell phone with anyone; much less a workman. If Wheeler did not leave it; then it was surely left as a 'plant'.
Too bad his brief case did not have a 'security chip/tracker' - whatever - embedded.
As for mud trackings; they are seriously 'weighted' around door entry. . .looks like some busy and heavy duty boots/size/weight et al going about there.
Am wondering what the 'finger print' liftings disclose. . but hey; they have not even said how he died and do think 'that' strange in itself. Does speak to 'more to story'. . .
