If they located the workman he'd be under arrest. Breaking and entering. He didn't remove the boards the police did as evidence! Get it? Something in that area stimulated the police to cut the entire area out for EVIDENCE!

Like I said, I believe there was a workman and he was given a key by John...No breaking and entering. Happens every day!!
Once they located the worker (I'm betting he came forward), that was the end of the floorboard evidence.
