Wilmington, Delaware (CNN) -- Police have found homicide victim John Wheeler's cell phone, according to a taxi driver who was interviewed by investigators this week.
Athel Scott told CNN National Correspondent Susan Candiotti that police told him they found the cab driver's number in the phone of Wheeler, the former Pentagon official who was found dead in a Delaware landfill. He said investigators wanted to know how his number got there. Scott... says he told the police he didn't have any idea.
"I never got a call from the man. I don't know him... He's never been in my cab. I don't know how my number got in his cellphone," Scott says he told police...

Where was he going at 8:30 at night?
What are the chances of two UNRELATED muggings in 2 days in the same neighborhood??
I have two theories.
1. John remembered "about" where he was mugged and went looking for his briefcase.
2. He recognized one of his muggers and was going hunting.
1 & 2. John returned to the "scene of the crime"...and guess who hangs there.
Might be one of those "My brother and mother were watching over me" and that's how I made it here.
I think many of us here have experienced that type of thought, i.e., they are our guardian angels.
I only thought of it because: I got in a bad car accident 20 years ago. Sitting in the car, in the shock of the moment, my first thought was..."Mom, he didn't feel a thing". My brother had been killed in a car accident 25 years before.
It still sits in my head....It's 47 years now..
Looks like someone was trying to get to the plumbing.... which reminds me of: “Sam the Plumber” from this family:

Only two from this family was arrested in the massive arrest this month.
Thanks Albion Wilde.
“I don’t understand why no one seems to be demanding answers.”
Because, as usual, they are afraid of the answers.
If a good mans reputation is sullied, so be it.
I’m not cynical, just realistic. It has happened before.
Now that you mention it, I think something was wrong already when he went to Happy Harry’s.
Why would he ask the pharmacist for a ride? It seems he already had not remembered his car in the parking garage at the train station? How did he get to HH’s or to his house if he even was there?
Why call the cab and then leave and then get robbed? Or, was he robbed already and just didn’t tell the pharmacist?
I wish there were more details released about that.
My head is spinning.
Not to mention the news report today about the ‘new’ cabbie coming forward and saying he picked him up on the 29th!
D’Amico, Marini
While trying to tie Frank and Anthony together the other day went into some of the geology sites. Often ran across the D’Amico name. Check out the link above. amd then google the two names together....Could it be?
Also look at the list of current front companies....Waste management included.
Also, he asked the attendant how to get to Front St which is where Amtrak is.
In a way, he wasn't too far off. Walnut (where the DoubleTree garage is, farther up) is one block over from King. He seems to have taken the wrong street up the hill, if he started on foot from the train station (perhaps getting off the bus near there on the 29th). In a normal state, he would have noticed, I'm sure, but in his condition, he was probably very confused that the garage he came upon wasn't the right one.
So much reading to catch up on
I don't know that he was even robbed before leaving Wilmington for the last time. Perhaps he imagined it when he couldn't find his briefcase and his mind struggled to piece together an explanation of what was going on.
Not to mention the news report today about the new cabbie coming forward and saying he picked him up on the 29th!
The date of that is odd, especially.
Much of these things are known by the police. We can only speculate.
Looking at that kitchen, it would be impossible to fix a meal there. Maybe even had frozen pipes before Christmas.
Might be a reason that he didn’t go home. House was being repaired. Of course his wife would know the details, if that was the situation.
Stopping by the house to pick up papers putting them in a brief case is another possibility...In that case he would not have that brief case with him when he got off the train or took the taxi ride.
Maybe it wasn’t his car, but something in the car. If he had papers from his lawyer on the 13th, he may have put them in the trunk or glove box to pick up later so he wouldn’t be carrying them around while he traveled. We don’t know if he didn’t find his car on the evening of the 29th or morning of the 30th.
Why did he go to the SBA? He wasn’t planning on starting a business, but across the street?
The SBA is in the Nemours building, basically 10th and Orange.
Does the Y have rooms to rent?
I think those are just program offices near 10th and Orange, if that's what you're asking about.
Some good thoughts here tonight.
I will have to sleep on it as worn out and work tomorrow. Will check back in the morning.
Let’s not have this story die - as I’ve said before Jack Wheeler did not deserve to die in the manner he did.
I'm inclined to think he was robbed VERY CLOSE BY and went to the first major entrance to a building. If there are several entrances..it may account somewhat for the disorientation. Remember, it's dark...AND
We're creatures of habit. We do A B C D E F G H every day...Just going into a different door in a building you've gone into 100 times....and wham...you're totally disoriented.
So I'll go back...John was not a regular in that garage in the video. He was cold. He was hurt. He wanted a minimum of help. Like just give me some damn directions....
I was totally angry that people would say he was homeless, disoriented, drunk....BUT NO ONE CALLED POLICE ON THEIR OWN?? The old "I don't want to get involved".
John just wanted an answer...I'm sure we've all dealt with something similar...very frustrating.
On the 30th....Why didn’t John just go home?? Why did he stay in Wilmington?? What were his plans for New Years Eve??
If phone was in his brief case on the 29th when he got home, doesn't that put the phone/briefcase stolen close to his home, before he went to the pharmacy?
If meds were in the briefcase did he ask the pharmacist to give him a few until he could get another prescription.
Does route 15 have a stop close to where the taxi driver dropped him off?
Note that reports like this one are wrong: http://philadelphia.cbslocal.com/2011/01/05/surveillance-video-leads-newark-police-one-step-closer-to-solving-murder-mystery/
They get confused and write about the “Nemours”ac parking supervisor, but the video confirms he’s actually at the courthouse.
Things like this are curious:
http://www.delawareonline.com/article/20110111/NEWS/101110323/Wheeler-inquired-at-city-law-firm
But was the SBA just another place to go to try to find help? It doesn’t have to make sense, if his mind was rattled.
