Wilmington, Delaware (CNN) -- Police have found homicide victim John Wheeler's cell phone, according to a taxi driver who was interviewed by investigators this week.
Athel Scott told CNN National Correspondent Susan Candiotti that police told him they found the cab driver's number in the phone of Wheeler, the former Pentagon official who was found dead in a Delaware landfill. He said investigators wanted to know how his number got there. Scott... says he told the police he didn't have any idea.
"I never got a call from the man. I don't know him... He's never been in my cab. I don't know how my number got in his cellphone," Scott says he told police...

Farther south along Interstate 95, The Associated Press (News - Alert) traced the garbage truck’s path through downtown Newark before it headed to the Cherry Island landfill where workers saw Wheeler’s body falling out of the truck as it unloaded. Investigators have said they believe the body was in a bin early in the truck’s run.
The first stop was a bank in College Square shopping center. Two trash bins at the rear of a bank are just yards away from two surveillance cameras and in sight of several storefronts and a heavily traveled road.
Inside one was a pair of white latex gloves, similar to those used by police evidence technicians.
Eddie Baker, 55, and his wife, Traci, 44, said they have been scouring the garbage around the shopping center for the past three weeks looking for moving boxes. Baker said he had not seen anything suspicious, but that he had come across homeless people searching, and sometimes sleeping in, the bins.
From the bank, the truck headed to the library, where the bin is tucked in an alley between the rear of the building and a fence that partitions the alley from nearby homes. A locked chain–link gate prevents through traffic in the alley, and a surveillance camera guards the area, alerting workers to an AP reporter’s presence.
Asked whether staffers had talked to police, a man replied, “Not a lot to talk about, unfortunately,” before the closing the door.
Security cameras and lights overlook bins on the truck’s route behind a Toyota dealership. Those at a McDonald’s are in plain sight of a 24–hour drive–thru lane. Just down the street, a small bin is behind another restaurant, across the street from a 24–hour emergency care center whose bins can be seen by residents of a seven–story apartment building.
Behind a Goodwill thrift store, several containers are in a lighted area that, according to a sign, is under 24–hour surveillance.
Whoever dumped Wheeler’s body would have found more privacy at a nearby retirement village and assisted living facility, where the bin is more hidden.
The garbage truck’s route is 10 miles from Wheeler’s home in New Castle. Investigators have searched the home, where yellow police tape can still be seen in the kitchen, but they have not identified it as a crime scene.
Wheeler’s lawyer Marin said he last spoke with his client on Dec. 27, and did not know what he may have been doing in Wilmington three days later.
Wheeler was suing to block Frank and Regina Marini of Hockessin from continuing to build a new house across the street from his duplex. Wheeler argued that the Marini house did not comply with construction standards for new homes in the historic district. A Delaware Chancery Court judge denied Wheeler’s application for a temporary restraining order on Dec. 13.
Late on Dec. 28, several smoke bombs of the type used for rodent control were tossed into the Marini house, scorching the floors, Chief Deputy State Fire Marshal Alan Brown said.
The Marinis said in a statement that they offered “heartfelt sympathies” to the families of Wheeler and his wife, Katherine Klyce. Police have given no indication whether they believe the property dispute had anything to do with Wheeler’s death.
“It is one facet of the investigation,” Farrall said.
In New York, police searched the condominium Wheeler and Klyce shared in a brick building on 124th Street in Manhattan, where they had lived for at least three years.
Building superintendent Jay Hosein said Tuesday that he saw Klyce last week, and that she seemed happy and cheerful.
“They were a very nice couple, very nice people,” Hosein said.
Efforts by The Associated Press to contact Klyce have been unsuccessful. Wheeler’s family issued a statement through Newark police Monday asking for privacy.
Wheeler had twins, a son and daughter, by his first wife. Klyce has two daughters from a previous marriage.
Elizabeth Thorp, a board member of the Deafness Research Foundation, of which Wheeler had formerly been CEO, said the circumstances of his death were “too surreal.”
She said he moved in a sophisticated crowd.
“This is not a guy who would end up in landfill or be murdered,” she said. “It’s a gigantic loss.”
I also believe we will find that the smoke bombs were put there by the owners of the house itself or kids. (I'm betting the owner.)
On the afternoon of the 29th, John was headed for "Philadelphia". He was fine....just irritated that he had waited for an hour for the cabbie at Rte 273 and 9th...
John went into the Pharmacy. Asked for a ride to Wilmington...(likely he had been given a ride before)....Wilmington is a 10 minute drive....
The problem right now is that all these newspeople have been crapping up the facts with people saying things that aren't truth but their perception.

And he also gave us the time. 6-6:40. He also gave us where...Between the Pharmacy and the garage where he is seen on the video.
There's no homeless or drunk or dementia....There's no dead bird connection....
I believe his wife has silenced everyone. All we're getting is media reports. And the only thing we will get is the "cause of death". His wife is powerful. This is his 3rd wife.
He must have watched the Army game on the 30th. He was somewhere with someone. He's seen at 8 AM and then for the last time at 8:30 PM wearing a hoodie. Was it his...or one he got from a buddy that he was watching the game with.
So how did he wind up in the dumpster...He went looking for the perps and his briefcase...and he was carrying...By this time, they knew that he was too important to just leave on the street and they put him in a dumpster...hoping that he would never turn up.
No one is asking the question...What was in the briefcase?
FBI lab was being used at the time, They can identify type, manufacture and size of any shoe print. They have NO reason to lie and probably released the information so an innocent person would come forward claim and clarify.
Some how they trace the smoke bombs to Wheeler, maybe receipts...Maybe on his card that someone else used. OTOH he may have purchased some for his own use if rodents are a problem in the area and others (the contractor or one of his employees purchased the ones in the house) It is unlikely he purchased them on his way home on the 28th. Fire dept was called at 11:00 PM that night.
He had worked in DC that day and had reservations for the train to bring him home...Where would he have gotten the smoke bombs that night? He wasn't driving his own car, so unlikely he'd just stop in at a hardware.
Therefore, Don't think he did the exterminating in the construction house either.
We don't have evidence in front of you, the FBI and Police do.
The News article I've read have quoted police reports or individuals....They are trying to keep his death in the news, so others will come forward and it won't end up an unsolved case. Police often use the news to stir the pot, keeping some information to themselves....Not even his wife would be told some information...BUT she would be expected to tell every detail of anything she knows.
As my son travels the world it is not unusual to be out of range and unable to communicate for days at a time. If I didn't have my cell phone or access to the house phone, I'd never call him. His number is just 2 on automatic
Obviously you have no newspaper person in the family or as a friend or you would recognize what they are doing...a public service working with the police...Maybe even planting a couple of things to see if a suspect reacts..
He said he was robbed, but he didn't say where or when. Since even the pharmacist said his behavior was not normal, it very easily could have been before he spoke with him.
John only gave us clues...In the Lawyer office on the 30th he said he wanted to go north.....NORTH? what's north? He might have said North if he thought he was in DC...But he wasn't. He was confused.
A fractured skull produces confusion and red eyes....And as we've heard in the recent AZ situation. A head injury swells for two-ten days after being received making the condition worse.
It is possible that he died from the head injury and someone because of the location of death, and their own position or problems didn't want to be tied to a dead body.
I don't believe these would scorch the floors unless they were lit on fire, either intentionally or accidentally. From this statement, it sounds to me like they were lit and tossed into the house, like a variation on a molotov cocktail.
The smoke bombs used for rodent control are not readily available like the ones used for insect control. You can buy "bug bombs" at any grocery store and many other retail stores. Rodent fumigants are regulated by the EPA, and restricted to licensed professionals.
I think the smoke bombs are a ‘smoke screen’ set off by someone trying to cover things up.
Jacks friends have said in no uncertain terms that if he had wanted to burn the place down, with his experience, he would have succeeded.
Or it's kids and they stole the bombs from "Daddy"...Probably rich so we'll never know.

After they found his phone in the house, and since he showed signs of having a head injury, I question whether the smoke bombs were intented to cover up another crime. That the person who hit him on the head thought he was dead and were trying to destroy the body and evidence...just another possibility.
One of his employees would wear “work-boots” and may have seen Wheeler place a key in that all too common “secret hiding place”....It was cold, he may not have had $ for shelter. An empty house nearby would be very handy. Wheeler comes home and surprises him or is locked out of his own home????

By the way the load was unloaded from the truck, they should be able to calculate approximately from which of the ten dumpster wheeler was put in!!!

Bedckwith may very well be right, but actually we do not know for sure. It may be that Harris copied Obama’s Dept State files and was willing ti sell them, or copied them for someone else in the Democrate, party for example.
The government simply blamed two governmet employees and either fired them or disciplined them. Harris was assassinated. We will likely will never know for sure. I prefer to speculate that HArris did know who copied the files or knew who wanted them. Otherwise he likely would be still alive. Thats my speculative preference.

Although the way they described him ‘falling out’ makes me think it was not a compacting type truck.

I agree with you, but he actually don't know for sure either!
To me he linked himself to his own site for answer, which I didn't get, but instead I got a snarky comment that he didn't answer questions on demand and do not like my tone, wow. I never have had any beef with Beckwith before and have often gone to his Obamafile for research where is stated that Harris was in a plot with people in the State Department, to which I asked what he know about THEM, not Harris!!!
The real question is WHY was he murdered and it's covered up, and in that category I also like more infos about Wheeler and the lady fried in her car a couple days ago???

Search warrants in John Wheeler homicide case to remain sealed

Two weeks after he was last seen alive, warrants related to the murder of a former Pentagon official are under seal, at the request of investigators. The warrants concern searches of John Wheeler the 3rd’s home in New Castle, his car, and cellphone records.
Wheeler, who served in the administrations of three U.S. Presidents and led efforts to raise funds for the Vietnam War Memorial, was last seen in the area of 10th and Orange Streets in Wilmington the night of December 30th. His body was discovered the following morning as a refuse truck was being emptied at the Cherry Island Landfill in Wilmington.
Attorney General Beau Biden asked that the warrants concerning the search of Wheeler’s home be sealed, arguing that their release could compromise the investigation.
Newark Police also requested that additional warrants be sealed. Newark Police are leading the investigation as they attempt to determine where and how Wheeler was killed. His body was left in one of ten dumpsters in Newark that were emptied the morning of December 31st.
Surveillance video released by Colonial Parking of Wilmington shows Wheeler, apparently disoriented and holding a shoe, wandering in the parking garage near 5th and King Streets December 29th, searching for his vehicle. Wheeler’s car was later found and impounded at a different garage near the Wilmington train station.
And now a Delaware sleuth has followed that up with pictures of the potential crime scenes. Police have already done this, of course, but online readers following the John Wheeler case can do it from the privacy and safety of their own homes now, if they didn’t catch news footages of some of the sites featured on several television stations locally in Newark or elsewhere.
