Liberal online political magazine Salon.com published a letter to the editor yesterday that called for the murder of 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.
The letter was written in response to a mocking article at Salon titled, Good Morning America's painfully friendly interview with Sarah Palin by Alex Pareene.
Pareene snarkily sums up the GMA interview, "The interview was basically split into a couple of distinct sections: How awesome is your family, how bad is Barack Obama, how awful are people who criticize you, and how awesome is America?"
The first letter published in response to the article calls for Palin to be electrocuted by a cattle prod by convicted dog abuser Michael Vick, "Vick gets a pet to torture and we get rid of Palin. A win-win for everyone!"
That letter has apparently sat in the pole position under the article in the Letters to the Editor section since it was posted "Friday, December 17, 2010 12:33 PM ET."
The Letters section for the GMA article lists 65 letters published over four pages. Each letter has a "flag" button to call attention to Salon editors about objectionable comments. It seems no one at Salon finds it objectionable for the site to publish an explicit call for murder.
Salon's Editor in Chief, Joan Walsh, is a regular on MSNBC and CNN. Will Chris Matthews, Joe Scarborough or Wolf Blitzer attack Walsh for prominently publishing a call for the murder of Sarah Palin? Will Walsh do the right thing and publicly apologize to Palin and pull the letter?

" I Have An Idea"
" Let's let Michael Vick keep Sarah Palin as a pet instead of a dog. It will be safer for dogs and maybe we'll get the satisfaction of having Vick electrocute Palin! You know that after listening to that voice for longer than 30-seconds Vick would be lunging for the cattle prods.
"Vick gets a pet to torture and we get rid of Palin. A win-win for everyone!"

Spoiler
Reminds me of what was done to the Emir in Tom Clancy's new novel Dead or Alive.
NOT endorsing it, btw.
Cheers!
Sarah Palin did not abort her DS baby. It is a slap in the face to all those liberals who did.
She loves her family, and is married to one man. That’s another slap in the face to all those alternate lifestyle liberals.
She has more than 1.8 children. That is a slap in the face to all those Earth-First Gaia-worshipping liberals.
She’s happy and shows no evidence of feeling guilty for eating meat she kills. That is a slap in the face to all those PETA/EPA liberals.
What a pussy! Is he afraid of a widdle girl??
I have no idea who this cowardly POS is, so I’ll only say... Bring me this girly-’mans’ head on a pike, I’ll slip you a Benjamin, and we’ll go get a Burger and Fries... my treat!
Absolutely.
...and I always respond to liberals with “what were Obama’s qualifications?”
The left’s hate for Palin is palpable. And it views itself as the tolerant compassionate ideology.
When Sarah becomes our next president, the lunatic left will be so enraged that the Secret Service will have to double their guard around her.
Thanks, Jeff! Great page!
Actually the story behind the story here is, with the defeat of the omnibus spending bill, and the Tax Rate bill getting passed (I didn’t like it, but I like that it angered the Left), and now with the defeat of DREAM Act, the Left is so beside themselves with bile and outright hatred, that they are emotionally unbalanced, and quite frankly, are fun to watch.
I regret that anyone would tolerate the calls for violence against Sarah Palin.
Owen Meany is a fictional character created by novelist John Irving.
This letter to the editor libels Michael Vick. The man paid the price society demanded of him (which, speaking for myself, always sounded harsh as compared to what first time offenders against fellow human beings get). He is now putting his life back together.
Of course, being a Giants fan, I hoping Vick doesn’t do so well on Sunday, but, that’s football.
I don't think any one of us would like the response to an attempt on Obama's life. Widespread gun confiscation would be a certainty, and the First and Second Amendments would simply no longer exist. I want Obama to be healthy, happy, out of office, and living out his Earthly days in a Federal prison.
That guy is obviously teetering on the razor’s edge. I believe he is truly dangerous, his constant anger and venom suggest a person who wants attention and will continually up his attacks to higher levels to attain even more attention. Ultimately he may well murder someone. And Salon should hide it’s head in shame for aiding and abetting his sickness by publication of his rants.
I think the headline is misleading. Although the letter is offensive, the reference to Michael Vick makes it clear that the author isn’t making a serious proposal. It’s a sick fantasy, not an actual call to kill Palin.
I’ve tweeted this myself, and RTed your tweet, Kristinn. The word needs to get out that these psychos mean Governor Palin real harm if they could get away with it!! :-(
Amen.
Don’t bring a cattle prod to a gunfight. Sarah is packing.
