Meg Whitman's former maid today was awarded $5,500 in back wages she claimed was owed to her from the former candidate for governor.
Nicky Diaz Santillan and her celebrity attorney, Gloria Allred, met this morning at the California Division of Labor Standards and Enforcement in San Jose, seeking more than $10,000. She said she was owed the money for work she did beyond the 15 hours a week for which she was paid during the nine years she worked for Whitman. Santillan said she was asked to perform jobs, including running errands and grocery shopping, that fell outside of her paid housekeeping duties.
"We do our best for our employers and in return all we ask is to be treated with respect and to be paid for all the work we do," Santillan said on the sidewalk outside the downtown San Jose building after the hearing. "We do all this because we need to support our families and to give our children a better future."
It's unclear whether Whitman attended the conference.
Her attorney on the scene, Dennis Brown, called the settlement "routine," saying the only reason the issue was heard was because there were no time cards involved.

This was the “Macacca” of the 2010 campaign season... The Dems (and Dem media) just can’t get through an election season without some kind of trumped up incident like this. I doubt Meg would have won without this distraction, but it clearly cost her votes and dollars.... and totally trumped up to boot.
She will get a free ride on a Homeland Security bus south on Interstate 5 to the San Ysidro deportation gate.
I’ve read the early comments, and there’s one word glaringly absent.
Whitman! Why is that?
Whitman may have been convinced this woman was a citizen. I’m not going to get into that. The problem for me is that you had a person who obviously wasn’t completely fluent in English, caring for Whitman’s most prized possessions.
Her children, her home, her belongings, all were subject to extreme danger if anything bad did crop up. Here’s a timid Hispanic woman watching over all of it. What happens if one of the children stops breathing? What happens if a fire breaks out? What happens if there is an intruder? What happens if a relative of this woman thinks they’ve struck the mother-load? Could this woman cope? Could she handle an emergency?
I ask this, because her reaction to the stress she endured in front of the press lead me to believe this woman was incompetent to react to an emergency situation.
Whitman was willing to pay upwards of $35 dollars per hour, and yet the woman who wanted to be governor couldn’t find one person in California that was competent enough to watch over her children, her home, and her belongings, for $25 per hour.
Just dang...
"Tanks anyway, Missus Allred. But ais makin' a bundle on the
US gravy train wit 5-6 identities. Ais gonna open a frioles food truck."
The day you can’t abuse, misuse and CHEAT an illegal alien is the day they’ve outstayed their usefulness.
Seriously.
People keep them here for cheap wages.
As soon as they start demanding rights, it’s on to the next day slaverer.
Maybe THAT will drive them back home?
Incredible. The woman was an illegal alien who deceived her employer and then turned around and tried to sabotage that same employer. Back pay my foot. Pay off from the Democrats.
How can you have a settlement with a human being that can’t be proven to actually exist?? This woman supposedly provided false documents correct? Then she is entittled to NOTHING because SHE was never employed by annyone!
Agreed, but why should Meg Whitman game the system by employing an illegal alien?
If the woman did the work, she should be paid, period.
Fine. Make the check out to her fake name!
Better than that, in her application that was posted on the web she explicitly checked off that she was willing to run errands and go grocery shopping plus other non-housekeeping duties.
weird reading article...who settled ? Whitman ? or the agency she hired which sent the maid ?
No, Alled will be paid handsomely by the California RAT Party.
This employee had perfectly legitimate-seeming documentation and there was no reason to think she was an illegal alien. Whitman paid her above average and was very good to her - and when Whitman found out that the employee was indeed illegal, she let her go.
The Dems dug her up and used to her attack Whitman, and this $5,000 is her paycheck.
She’ll need the $5500 and more for her immigration lawyer.
Allred took a bath on that case
Hah! She gave Nicky the bill. I came to $4499.99.
I have never written a job description that did not have several of these in it: “... including but not limited to....”.
EVERY SINGLE STATE OFFICE is now democrat.
I hope the franchise tax board and the IRS are there to get their cut. I hoped whitman demanded that she present a genuine tax payer ID before she pays up.
So the illegal f’n alien got $5500 in extortion money.
Why hasn’t she been deported !!!???
WTF hasn't she been DEPORTED???
