Vanity: Fox News Panelist Liz Trotta Agrees With Karl Rove: Palin's Alaska Is Unpresidential

Posted on 11/13/2010 12:38:19 PM PST by Retired Intelligence Officer

I was appalled at Liz Trotta and 3 other conservative guest panelist (that I couldn't name) on this afternoons Fox newswatch hosted by Jon Scott all agreed that Palins new reality show, Sarah Palin's Alaska on the Discovery Channel was very unpresidential and it would sink her any chances for the White House.

The topic was that liberal advocacy groups were asking for the Discovery Channel to pull the plug on it. The consevative commentator Liz Trotta then said that she agreed with Karl Rove that this was a bad move for Palin. Trotta then goes on to take a pop shot at Palin saying "everytime this woman opens her mouth that her numbers go down". She then said "the more she speaks that she makes people simply not like her". Jon Scott did not ask Trotta why this was just like yesterday when Megyn Kelly didn't ask Meghan McCain why she thought Palin would be best as a reality star.

My question is why is Fox news who hired Sarah Palin allowing conservative guest freely without explanation to back up their facts to trash her and her message in a public forum? Why are they allowing people to tarnish her reputation as well as her new TV program which they advertize during commercial time? Something smells

Some here worried about Haley’s accent need to buck up and stop apologizing for something that needs no apology. .

I've called her a media queen. That is an insult. I do think it's accurate though. Who puts themselves on a reality TV show that isn't?

I really dislike political figures going on TV like this. I don't like Huckabee doing it even as a commentator and I really hate ‘reality’ TV and anyone associated with it. I don't think I'd watch the show because, frankly, I like her too much to deal with it. I call her ‘cuda’ to my friends as a term of endearment. I'll stand by her if she runs and wins, but I really wish the nonsense would stop.

So, no, you don’t have any. The only polls are negative trending now. You think if she declares that’ll change? I highly doubt it. It’s like thinking O’donnell was a sure winner, and boy I saw that a lot and got flak too for saying she had no chance.

I have no problem with rational explanations of why she’s a good potential candidate.

The issue was with her RESIGNATION, not with her being a candidate for President.

If you feel that she's a quitter, then you have no business debating the merits of her candidacy. After all, her quitting ruined her already, right?

You're no different than a seminar caller that Rush always gets.

The media will go back to ridiculing the RINO opponent too after he/she serves their purpose.

So, no, you don’t have any.

Based on what? How can you poll people based on something that hasn't materialized?

You’re almost clintonian in your defense now. What she did doesn’t matter, right?

Call me what you will, but she did quit and that’s a *potentially* fatal move no matter the reason. I’ve been told that she had to over and over. I disagree.

80% of the Republican Congress & Governors endorsed him. Bush surrounded himself with people of expertise in different fields at the same time building a strong campaign organ.

And how many of them are Progressives? Think back: GW was chosen by the powers that be. It's why he won. Palin was chosen to give the election NOT to McCain, but to BO. Fortunately, the "silent majority" has become much better educated in the last few years. And Palin's grit, common sense, and Christian courage were recognized. Most here will say they didn't vote for McCain, they voted for Palin. But how many of Bush's friends would have voted for her?

Pay attention, the Chosen One for the 2012 election is the lil' ol' gov'ner of Mississippi -- Haley Barbour. You heard it here first!

Looks like this thread is morphing into a copy of the sorriest chapter in FR history. No banning yet, but....it's still early.

The morons on DU and MoveOn must have run out of popcorn watching all this nonsense.

I’d say the elections were evidence of her popularity, but then again elections aren’t polls. s/

Quitting isn’t an option in politics, no matter the slime thrown at you. I don’t get this whole thing, it’s a baffling media circus.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Okay Mr. Peabody, lets set the wayback machine to 2008 and play this out shall we?

Sarah doesn’t quit...it’s now 2010.

1. Bogus ethics complaints: 100

2. Lawyer’s cost: 1 million plus

3. AK legislative process: quagmired

4. Media and Rove drumbeats: “Palin paralized by ethics scandles, bunker mentality at governor’s office, leaves office under a cloud of controversy. Palin is destroyed beyond repair.”

5. No Palin: no Tea Party rally point.

6. Palin books??? Tea Party Icon??? GOP gains in 2010??? Nikki Haley??? Rubio??? Paul??? etc.,

7. No effective Palin presence to rally the Tea party and keep it in the GOP structure. Tea Party flips the bird and fields third party candidates splitting the GOP vote in key races. The backlash is enough to curtail GOP gains in 2010 embolding Oboma/Pelosi/Reid.

Perhaps she sacrificed any POTUS dreams (or not), but she has earned her stripes these past two years. Like Obiwan said, “Strike me down and I’ll become more powerfull than you’ll ever imagine”.

As to her possible run in 2012....LET THE VOTERS DECIDE!!! That’s why we have elections!!!

To paraphrase the Joker, “Palin has shown Gotham City your true colors. And as to the Tea Party candidates? They’re just the start of your toubles!”

I guess that explains Rove’s “group thereapy sessions” in broad daylight.

We the people, non RINO, non elitists, and Sarah supporters did win this last election.

But if by pretty big election you mean Obama in ‘08, I think I understand exactly what you’re doing here now.

All I’ve seen is polls showing her over 50% negative lately. People bash the polls, but.. I don’t see ANY evidence that she’s gained any popularity lately. All I’ve seen is the opposite.

Compliments of Onyx!

Harris Poll January 29, 1980:

CARTER NOW FAR AHEAD OF BOTH REAGAN AND BUSH

"President Carter so dominates the American political scene now that his margin over Ronald Reagan in a post-Iowa trial heat has risen to an overwhelming 65-31 percent."

Also, Time magazine ran a big story in March of that year basically saying Reagan was unelectable. Gallup had a poll in that time frame with Reagan down 25 points.

Or how about this?

March 10, 1980. The GOP establishment had decided they needed another candidate besides Bush to stop Reagan and started recruiting Gerald Ford:

ABC News - Harris poll: FORD LEADS BOTH CARTER AND REAGAN, ALTHOUGH STILL UNDECLARED CANDIDATE

"Former President Gerald Ford is the first choice of Republican and independent voters to head the GOP ticket, even though he has not yet declared himself a candidate for the Republican nomination.

Ford also leads President Carter among the general electorate."

PLEASE REMIND ME AGAIN, WHO WON IN 1980?

RONALD WILSON REAGAN, (IIRC)

08 was a pretty big election, and she lost.

She did a pretty good job of picking the likely winners in 10 though, I'll give her that. Did she really sway that many? I dunno. I doubt it.

Again, people are putting her on some mega pedestal. Now you're saying she IS the tea party?
