I just watched FNS at the top of the hour and saw the recording of the Admiral.
Came close to cracking one or more of my ribs when Fox noted that every agency capable of launching a missile, now has to inventory and account for their on hand missiles.
Same here. I've never seen a jet contrail like that, but apparently jet contrails over the Pacific in Southern California can be very thick and persistent. This isn't the first time in that area that a jet contrail has been mistaken for that of a missile. The apparent orange flame of a missile is actually the orange setting sun reflecting off the aircraft.

No. It is a solid fuel rocket on a low trajectory away from the cameras. If you look closely you can see what may be staging at the end of the tape just before it cuts. You can see it leaving the atmosphere as it passe through the high cloud layer. It is not going to orbit but way downrange fast. Notice the expanding plume at the start of the trail. Contrails do not do that. but SRB’S do.
It could very well be a jet making the contrail. Unfortunately, the site doesn't make a distinction between a jet and a missile contrail, it merely shows that both can look similar under the right conditions.

At least he shows how the missile vs jet contrails differ and makes me lean towards a jet being the source. Here's the thing that bugs me, however:
If it was a jet, I assume it was a fairly good sized or powerful jet. Also, if it was flying towards the observer, it would've been heading toward the US shore (and near or over LA). Air traffic control (ATC) should have picked it up. Wouldn't military ATC or the FAA have a record of a jet being in that vicinity at that time? If so, why not put an end to this?

Interesting. It is clear in that video that there is fire coming out of the rear of the object in flight. Never saw a commercial airline spew heat like that during takeoff.
What’s scary is that an average jetliner’s contrail has been sold as a missile launch by crappy “journalists.” And what’s sad is that the morons here up in arms will never admit it.
They’re probably the same ones that call contrails “Chem Trails” anyways...

That source doesn't see how the missile was launched into W537, but it was close enough that I think its plausible.
That is what I was thinking. Prepositioned (by a sub) in a tethered silo anchored to the sea floor. Remote control blows the silo, missile breaks the surface, booster ignites, no sub to track. Show of force with no assets at risk.
Maybe the Russians are showing us they have a missile capable of defeating our anti missile defenses. I believe that they claim to have such missile.

I would think a hobbyist would not play with his toys that close to LA. If something were to go wrong, it would be the very last time he played with such toys. Or breathed free air.
1) TWA 800 was brought down by a shoulder-fired missile off the coast of Long Island.
2) The plume off California is from a larger missile.
3) The government lies to us and denies these things because they don't want us to know that they cannot keep us safe.
