In the wake of National Public Radio firing Juan Williams for comments he made about Muslims on The OReilly Factor, Sarah Palin took to her Facebook page Thursday afternoon to call for NPRs defunding.
National Public Radio is a public institution that directly or indirectly exists because the taxpayers fund it, she wrote. And what do we, the taxpayers, get for this? We get to witness Juan Williams being fired from NPR for merely speaking frankly about the very real threat this country faces from radical Islam.
Palin acknowledged Williams past criticism of her, but asserted her devotion to free speech and the need for open and honest debate.
Are we not allowed to say that Muslim terrorists have killed thousands of Americans and continue to plot the deaths of thousands more? Are we not allowed to say that there are Muslim states that aid and abet these fanatics? Are we not allowed to even debate the role that radical Islam plays in inciting this violence? she posted.
Palin went on to write that it is now up to Congress to take away NPRs funding and for President Obama to take notice and speak out.
President Obama should make clear his commitment to free and honest discussion of the jihadist threat in our public debates and Congress should make clear that unless NPR provides that public service, not one more dime, she wrote.
Good for Palin & Huckabee.
I heard the comment at the time it was made. Williams was just having a conversation about how airplane rides and muslim garb makes him nervous.
Me, too.
I defy anyone to claim that isn’t an understandable sentiment.
He was just talking. He got fired just for talking. Unbelievable.
Defund NPR!
You said in exactly 5 words what my ham-fisted, rambling screed was trying to convey. I really need to enroll in the "Word Economy 101" course.
A very nice statement by Palin! Between this and Huckabee’s surprisingly bold call to do the same thing, maybe people will start taking another look at NPR (which is really nothing but a mouthpiece for the Dems).
pull all npr funding and use it for public safety i.e. police/fire.
RE: Sarah Palin calls for Congress to defund NPR over Juan Williams firing
I’ll go one better over Sarah... why don’t we DEFUND NPR ALTOGETHER and return the money to the taxpayers?
Let them fend for themselves like the other broadcast stations do.
O’Reilly, too
NPR should have been defunded a long time ago. Williams’s firing is as good a reason as any when we’re trying to eliminate socialism.
Did anyone see ibrahim hooper from c a i r on Megyn Kelly this afternoon? If you didn’t, look for it.
It is jawdropping.
Frankly, I’m worried when I see people I suspect to be Muslim even when they’re not wearing Muslim garb. None of the 9/11 terrorists and in fact none of the recent Islamic terrorists here have worn Muslim garb.
But I get worried when I see someone with the strange Muslim beard or a copy of the Koran or anything that indicates to me that they might be Muslims, even if they’re wearing Western clothing.
Sure.
But then, I think any reason’s a good reason to defund NPR.
They can defund NPR right after they make edison bulbs legal again, and allow companies to sell toilets and shower heads that actually work again.
Good for O’Reilly - who had those two idiots storm out of his show when he dared mention that Muslims brought down the Twin Towers. I can’t stand his show and I find him irritating, but you don’t have to agree with somebody on everything to agree with him when he’s right on something. And he’s right on this.
Don't hold your breath for that hon. We need you to stay on message and you would not be around much longer.
What she said was true. Obviously, “You can’t handle the truth.”

This guy needs to update his site.
“At a time when our country is dangerously in debt and looking for areas of federal spending to cut, I think weve found a good candidate for defunding. National Public Radio is a public institution that directly or indirectly exists because the taxpayers fund it. And what do we, the taxpayers, get for this?”

100% agreed. And while we’re looking for other areas of federal spending to cut, I whole-heartedly nominate the abolition of all taxpayer funding for the disgusting, anti-Christian, left-wing National Endowment of the Arts.
