In the wake of National Public Radio firing Juan Williams for comments he made about Muslims on The OReilly Factor, Sarah Palin took to her Facebook page Thursday afternoon to call for NPRs defunding.
National Public Radio is a public institution that directly or indirectly exists because the taxpayers fund it, she wrote. And what do we, the taxpayers, get for this? We get to witness Juan Williams being fired from NPR for merely speaking frankly about the very real threat this country faces from radical Islam.
Palin acknowledged Williams past criticism of her, but asserted her devotion to free speech and the need for open and honest debate.
Are we not allowed to say that Muslim terrorists have killed thousands of Americans and continue to plot the deaths of thousands more? Are we not allowed to say that there are Muslim states that aid and abet these fanatics? Are we not allowed to even debate the role that radical Islam plays in inciting this violence? she posted.
Palin went on to write that it is now up to Congress to take away NPRs funding and for President Obama to take notice and speak out.
President Obama should make clear his commitment to free and honest discussion of the jihadist threat in our public debates and Congress should make clear that unless NPR provides that public service, not one more dime, she wrote.
The thing that worries me is that he is going to take votes away from Sarah Palin (assuming she runs) Not saying he can beat her but he can take votes from her that may well allow Mittens to win the nomination.
Mittens is backed by the establishment and has the backing of the Charles Krauthammers and the Steve Hayes of the world.
Notice by my tagline that I am for Sarah Palin 2012 or bust!! But am worried at the end of the day there is going to be a Romney/Huckster ticket, sorry it`s just my worst case scenario that keeps me up at night.
Huck will run, and just like 2008 will not bow out when he learns he has no chance of winning. He will be egged on by the MSM and the Republican establishment. It will be reported by the MSM that Huck clearly won each and every debate, the MSM media polls will show him on top.
I wish Huck would just sign a long term deal with Fox and stay home, then I even could enjoy his program.
Go Sarah!!! But where are the other Republicans and why in the world haven’t they been insisting on defunding before now? We have too many in Washington just occupying space—time for them all to go.
Preach it, sister!!!!!!!!
Mitt Romney, what say you?
YOU GO GIRL !!! This woman has more cajones than most GOP sitting in the Congress.
she did announce this before Huckster
I think there are many reasons to defund NPR. Firing Juan Williams for speaking his opinion on Fox News that they disagree with does not rise to that occasion itself, but it may well be the straw breaking that camel’s back.
Romney received money from BAIN from the Ground Zero Victory Mosque.
So what could the shapeshifter say?
Bain Capital, has cut checks totaling $90,000 to Romneys operation.
Aside from the disgusting content on sites such as DU and Kos, the sites are poorly implemented from a technical aspect. The HTML never survives a validaition suite (unlike JR's superb, clean code here on FR).
There's so much clutter and needless JavaScript over there on the cited leftist sites that load times before a page is rendered is unbearable in itself.
Long before I ever joined the patriots here (when I still had dialup service at a blazing 9600 BPS) at Free Republic earlier this year, FR was my goto site for fast-breaking news and intelligent commentary. In addiiton to the superior content here, the look and feel (along with the uncluttered appearance with speedy page rendering), Free Republic is greatness based on technical merits alone.
I’d love to see NPR defunded.
But it’s not going to happen with McCain, Collins, Snowe and other RINOs around.
Gov. Palin replies to the furious assault from the MSM with dignity and usually humor. A leader does not absorb ad hominem arguments with a stiff upper lip; she responds.
That wasn't a response! That was her dragging up old crap. A Response is fine. Constantly dragging up old crap gets old.
How big a twist is in Juan’s knickers to see that of all people—Sarah Palin is DEFENDING HIM?????
Life sure has some strange twists these days.
BTW- I also agree with Juan about seeing a Muslim near me on an airplane or at all near the whole airport. Doesn’t make for a comfortable flight, IMO.
The Ubuntu of political websites.
I was recently interviewed by a BBC reporter using a local NPR outlet here in Helena, Mt for broadcast in the UK. I am not sure, but there was a distinct coolness at the NPR outlet when I showed up wearing my US Army and leg braces from exposure to combat in Iraq. Maybe I am paranoid but I was looking for some friendly convesation, but they did get me a glass of water during the interiew. OIF vet

I think Juan’s point about a Muslim in “muslim garb” is a very valid point. Knowing how nervous Americans are about airline terrorism, why would someone choose to dress in garments guaranteed to make fellow passengers nervous? It’s the same insensitivity to our feelings as displayed in the wish to build a mosque at the site of the 9/11 attack.
