Sarah Palin may be edging closer to a 2012 presidential run, telling Fox News "I would give it a shot" if the American people think she's "the one."
The former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee was in Des Moines, Iowa, Friday for the Reagan Dinner, a big GOP fundraiser in the heart of water-testing country for presidential candidates.
Palin has remained coy about her ambitions, but she elaborated a bit in an interview with Fox News, attaching several conditions to the possibility of a 2012 presidential run.
"If the American people were to be ready for someone who is willing to shake it up, and willing to get back to time-tested truths, and help lead our country towards a more prosperous and safe future and if they happen to think I was the one, if it were best for my family and for our country, of course I would give it a shot," she said.
"But I'm not saying that it's me. I know I can certainly make a difference without having a title. I'm having a good time doing exactly that right now."
Palin, a Fox News contributor and best-selling author since leaving the governor's mansion last year, has become one of the Tea Party movement's biggest allies. She's also thrown her clout around in the GOP primary season with a string of endorsements.
She said in February that she'd be "willing" to take on President Obama in two years, and White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said Friday he suspects she's testing the water.

agree 100%. I don;t think she is out there day after day pounding the pavement for people to win just for her glory. She is doing it for the country.

I'm sure Palin does what she thinks is right. She thought quitting was right, else she wouldn't do it. That was her choice, and it raises questionable judgments. Could she handle the presidency? Will she quit that?
Her qualifications is less than three years as a governor, owned a business, and before that, mayor and city council. Other than that, she has a good family. Better than Obama (who isn't qualified to even work in my office) or Romney or Huck (both bad experience). Not good enough.
My candidate for congress, a "lower office", has proven himself for 18 years. Tim Walberg. He's running against a follower of the Obama cult of personality. Tim had an 16 year voting record in the legislature, won a congressional seat against a RINO, and lost two years later by 2% because he was abandoned by leadership. Tim's running again, and should win his rematch. I know what I'm going to get from Tim. He doesn't need, nor want, all the attention on him. He shows up, does his job, sticks to his guns, and does it well. He won't back things like TARP. He goes to work and then takes his Harley home to his family. Tim marches to his own drum, and it happens to be right. That has been proven over 18 years.
People prove themselves over a long period of time. It's not about drum marching, or what Palin doing what she thinks is right that is important. It's the actions and policies taken that stand alone as good or bad policy.

Well, like I said, the worst of them would never vote Republican anyway. As for the rest, if they have a choice between Obama, who they probably hate and CAN articulate why, and Palin, I think they’ll choose Palin.
The bottom line is, we can’t make the same mistakes we’ve made over and over again, the stakes are too high. Running a RINO against Obama is suicide. If we nominate some relatively unknown conservative, the media will try to smear them as bad as they smeared Palin. Do you think the “voters who believe the media hype” won’t fall for that again?
Let’s stop catering to or fearing our enemies and start nominating proven LEADERS to lead us.
It’s great to hear but it ain’t news because she has been running since she put the finishing touches on Going Rogue. It’s only a matter or time now, baby.

Do you know that she had to defend herself against 22 lawsuits brought on by democrats that were all found to be frivolous? Every dime of defense came out of her pocket and she did not have deep ones.
The amount of time she had to give these lawsuits was taking away from her ability to do her job. yet she still got the state to cut spending and gave them a very solid base to keep people employed, lower taxes and cut waste like no other.
The problem is that she would again be hampered by the democrats that hate her in any endeavor other than the role she is now holding.
She would be a great leader there is no doubt in my mind. But she would have to contend with a socialist media that would stop at nothing to keep her from the white house.
Sorry if I’m the one to break it to you, but your Aunt’s a lost cause. If she ever will break out of her delusions, it’s only going to be when reality doesn’t allow her to comfortably hold on to them anymore.
The nutcase koolaid-drinkers hated Nixon. They hated Ford. They hated Reagan. They hated Bush, then they hated his son. They hate Palin. They’ll hate anyone who doesn’t whisper flattering lies in their ears to please them. Tossing our best and brightest to the wolves won’t appease them.

your right. I just talk with her to gauge what others may be thinking. She is politically connected to some degree and that worries me.

the last thing I want is another McCain / Obama choice. Dear god no. I was hoping for someone Like Thompson but with more fire.
Politics is tricky at best on a good day. Making predictions etc on who would win is always hard. The stakes have NEVER been higher in my life (almost 50 now) that I can remember .. including the cold war.
I only wish that the media would do their job instead of playing the role of Pravda. I would sleep so much better at night with an educated public.
Don't buy into the "Palin has been too damaged by the press" propaganda. She's more popular than any living American politician. Why do you think more than 100 news organizations were in Iowa covering her speech tonight? Why do you think her endorsements are more precious than gold right now?
As has been pointed out many times on FR, Reagan was brutally savaged by the press before he ran for the presidency in 1980. Even after throwing his hat into the ring, the press kept pounding on him, and attempting to destroy him, day and night, right up to election night, when he beat Carter in a landslide, even though the polls showed Carter in the lead.
The same exact dynamics are in play at this moment, though this time, we've got a (potential) candidate who is reaching the people directly through the new media.
Also, don't forget that the country is literally in a revolutionary state, and wants a leader of Palin's pedigree and caliber. She is the de facto spear point of the Tea Party, which is throwing the ruling elites out of office left and right.
A wind of historic force is at Sarah Palin's back. All she has to do is raise her sail, and she'll sail directly to the White House.

+1 - We do not need a 2008 retread running in 2012. I'll vote for her, without question...But I am as certain as I was that McCain would lose in 08..that she will not win in 2012 (nor would Huck - Romeny would only have slightly a better shot becaues he could sell his economics to the Indy's some).
A sitting Governor is the way to go. Daniels or Barbour.

Your points are well made and taken. But the statement I made is not propaganda, just an observation I have made from contact with people in my limited area.
I hope you are right, but I have a bad feeling. A queezy type thing if you understand what i am trying to get across.

She is a great for our party. She is great for messaging. She is very popular among segments of the base...That does not mean she is the best person to be POTUS/CINC.
She will be much easier to defeat than would a Daniels or Barbour, IMO. For Obama. Her negatives are already high. There is a segment of the population that won't give her another honest look (wrongly so, but it is there).
Think of what an incoherent C. Gibson did to her in a back and forth session (not to mention Couric). Obama would likely do very well Vs her in a debate. Just from a stylistic stand point (even though he would be lying and telling half-truths all along). Palin tends to look to have a quick answer without thinking to the questions asked, quite often I find myself noticing. That will not play well over the course of a campaign.
