Sarah Palin may be edging closer to a 2012 presidential run, telling Fox News "I would give it a shot" if the American people think she's "the one."
The former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee was in Des Moines, Iowa, Friday for the Reagan Dinner, a big GOP fundraiser in the heart of water-testing country for presidential candidates.
Palin has remained coy about her ambitions, but she elaborated a bit in an interview with Fox News, attaching several conditions to the possibility of a 2012 presidential run.
"If the American people were to be ready for someone who is willing to shake it up, and willing to get back to time-tested truths, and help lead our country towards a more prosperous and safe future and if they happen to think I was the one, if it were best for my family and for our country, of course I would give it a shot," she said.
"But I'm not saying that it's me. I know I can certainly make a difference without having a title. I'm having a good time doing exactly that right now."
Palin, a Fox News contributor and best-selling author since leaving the governor's mansion last year, has become one of the Tea Party movement's biggest allies. She's also thrown her clout around in the GOP primary season with a string of endorsements.
She said in February that she'd be "willing" to take on President Obama in two years, and White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said Friday he suspects she's testing the water.

No, no, no—he was made out to be a buffoon all up through the 70’s, especially from when he ran in ‘76.
I think a big reason why she is what she stated: that she is unbounded by office. She understands as Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, and others — she can have more influence outside of government.
She is great at what she has been doing — sending out tweets, rallying the faithful, being a figurehead, and being a lightning rod.
She has helped conservatives gain power by organizing around her cues. She could elevate herself to absolute kingmaker in a presidential race, but her influence would begin to wane after an extended campaign. A great muician knows to leave the audience wanting more. I think Palin wants to be a superstar, not a lowly public servant, and I think she will purposefully leave the public wanting more of her, not less.
“and if they happen to think I was the one”
I know what oblahblah meant by that phrase, and I know what Gov. Palin means. Two completely different takes!
You’re not gonna catch Todd in mom jeans either.
If Sarah Palin runs she has my support. I believe Palin doesn’t have a strong desire to be president so much as she wants to see the country put back on the right track. I don’t think this is a ego or power trip for her. If someone else steps up who is capable of doing the job, her and Todd would probably be relieved. Her running would be a sacrifice in service to her country the same as when she decided to run for city council, mayor and governor. Agree? Disagree?
And that guy who boarded the Bus to let those bullies know what is up, when it comes to his Daughter with CP?
Sarah won’t throw him under the bus.
I’d like to see private schools for the physically disabled like we had back in the day before public schools wanter the funds to warehouse our severly physically disabled kids.
Heavenly Hope and Change.
This is so exciting.
True American Unity.
Mitch Daniels???? You gotta be kidding? Talk about a career pol. He’s al about “reaching across the aisle”. He’s somewhere between Mcinsane and Mittens.

I think she’s bothered by those who say she’s just in it for the money and that may be part of why she wants people to know she’ll consider running if it seems right.
I don’t doubt but she’s running and I think it’s for the right reasons, though not a sacrifice. I think she sees it as a blessing that she’s the right person for the time.
She has a series on Discovery Channel?
Apples and oranges. You're comparing someone who's been a leader and a politician for a very long time, to people who simply voice their opinions in the media.
If Sarah simply wanted to be a 'kingmaker', she would already have a full-time gig at Fox or ClearChannel radio.
You are seriously misunderestimating Mrs. Palin, my friend. She's got a much bigger role to play in American history than the one you'd like for her to play.
And, she knows this better than anyone.
oh really...not the “she’s a quitter because she resigned” line.
Just try to look past the Lib talking points and you will see the genius in her actions. She’s showed more strategic and tactical genius in the last 1.8 years, than any current politician; meaning she has the smarts to get things done.
I’ll support her.
I hope she runs.
Feb 6th is Reagan's birthday (his 100th).
Palin will announce on November 3. If she was to announce before the elections, every person she’s endorsed would find their election would be about Palin and not the candidate. I can’t see Palin giving the media that kind of opportunity.
LOL! PERFECT!
I have been thinking, and I know that the Republican establishment is as clueless about the tidal wave rolling their way as the lefties who currently call themselves democrats.
Washington needs a cleaning, a big one. I know who has the broom and the dustpan.
There is anger in the land, and those that stand in the way will fade into history. That they don’t get it yet is mildly amusing to me.
And....only if he's black label...not green
