WASHINGTON An enormous and impassioned crowd rallied at the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on Saturday, summoned by Glenn Beck, a conservative broadcaster who called for a religious rebirth in America at the site where the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his famous I Have a Dream speech 47 years ago to the day.
Something that is beyond man is happening, Mr. Beck said in opening the event as the crowd thronged near the memorial grounds. America today begins to turn back to God.
It was part religious revival, part history lecture, as Mr. Beck invoked the founding fathers and the black-robed regiment of pastors of the Revolutionary War and spoke of American exceptionalism.

Officials do not make crowd estimates because they are unreliable and can be controversial, but event organizers put the number of attendees at 500,000; NBC News said it was closer to 300,000, but by any measure it was a large turnout. The crowd stretched from the Lincoln Memorial to the Washington Monument.

Good post!
Mormons believe that to be saved, those who are above the age of accountability must believe in Jesus Christ, take his name upon them, bear witness of him, obey his commandments and be baptized in his name by one holding authority given by Christ. And they must keep that covenant, learn and follow the teachings of Christ and keep faith in and follow Christ throughout their lives, enduring to the end.
Mormon theology defines "saved" and "salvation" in two ways.
The first 'salvation' is a general salvation whereby Jesus' sacrifice allows all to be resurrected with a body and live in some level of 'heaven' there is no hell in mormon theology.
The second definition of salvation/saved refers to the mormon doctrine of eternal progression to godhood / exaltation. Within this definition, mormons must perform rituals and various 'works' in order to be deemed worthy of becoming a god.
If one follows mormon theology from their scriptures and the writings/teachings of their apostles and prophets, there are numerous evidence of the belief that any degree of 'salvation' is based upon works or merits.
Finally, the question "only way to be saved" is also muddled in mormon theology. According to mormon theology, heavenly father (God) was previously a man in the distance past. Teachings indicate that heavenly father was also a sinner that required a 'savior' as well, and that this pattern extends into the infinite past. Mormons are generally reluctant to discuss this or tend to gloss it over as opinion. Teachings of mormon prophets also indicates that we can by our own works, cleanse ourselves of 'sin' - negating the need for a savior. Again, this is deeply buried in mormon thought and rarely brought to light.
Would you be willing to comment on post #220?
“Teachings of mormon prophets also indicates that we can by our own works, cleanse ourselves of ‘sin’”
That part sounds like Catholics.
BTW: I’m writing this just after hearing Beck on Fox News Sunday state that he was saved by Jesus Christ but that he has then, to work to do good.
That, in my opinion, is mainstream for what most of Christians believe.
if you do, want to talk about:
the Albigensian Crusade: 20 years of carnage
that finally ended, after tens of thousands were slaughtered in the name of the church - many of them catholics - as the Pope said “Kill them all. God will know His own.” = this slaughter culminated in the what they thought were the last of the Cathars, holed up in the castle of Montségur. All were marched out, men, women and children, stripped and burned alive.
Or perhaps you'd like to talk about the Medieval Inquisition? and the tens of thousands, tortured, burned and slaughtered - in the name of the church?
Maybe, mention the night of Friday the 13th, 1307 and that slaughter - having nothing to do with ‘religion’ and everything to do with greed.
Or maybe the pedophile priests who have been protected for decades?
What I'm getting too is: Only Christ, Himself, has the right to pass judgement - all mortals/organizations have warts and histories less than perfect. Because we are all mortal.]]
Ephesians 4:2
With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;
1 Thessalonians 3:12
And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you:

It is time to unite, not to tear ourselves apart. WE have a common enemy that is determined to destroy our freedoms. Time to turn your attention to that...or all of us may soon see the day NONE of us can worship our Lord but in secret and danger.
oh, elsie, elsie, elsie - poor elsie.
Bile is bitter
Amen - and AMEN
As in I am removing you all from reading & thinking about what you write. It’s a play on Ghandi: pronounced the same, though.
self righteousness is not Christian.
I would rather be with atheists who are yet good people who practice Christian values that with puffed up, judgmental, pontificating people who proclaim themselves Christians but but do not act Christian.
You say: “Shw wanted it; and she sure got it!
(I’d like to hear from HER just how it’s going...)”
Well, here you are. WAtch the first video and then click on “other videos” at top to get all the segments.
Maybe you could even just LISTEN and not tear apart and ‘re-translate’.

JOHN 10: 33 The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.
34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?
35 If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;
36 Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God?
37 If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not.
********He was quoitng Psalms: “I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High. 7 But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes. 8 Arise, O God, judge the earth: for thou shalt inherit all nations. “
Good greif I think this is where the phrase
Cut off you nose to spite your face!
It is a good thing the founding fathers of the 11 different state religions out of 13 states could fine common ground or we would never have a constitution!
no matter who you think you are or know about religion This is a fact Contention does not come from the Lord, nor is the author of it....
It is the devil tha stir the pot the LDS are not the ones who starts these railings...
some heads are so stuffed with self-rigeousness and self-esteem, there is no room for reason.
SO, elsie - ditto.
don't want to hear from you again.
I'll part with my sympathies, for wherever you go, for the rest of your life - there you are/
That has absolutely no reference to religious affiliation.
I know a lot of Mormons, have for decades . I do not know ONE that would vote for Romney.
The Mormon Church, as are other churches, is made up of different human beings. They don't all walk in lock step. Neither are they told who to vote for. They do have the LOWEST of all groups - support for obama. They vote predominantly conservative because of their core values...that doesn't mean every member is a conservative. They believe that God's greatest gift to man is Free Will - to decide our own paths - therefore, be responsible for our own actions:
" He'll draw, persuade, direct him right. Guide him with Love, Truth, and Light. In every way be good and kind, But never force the human mind."
That's, basically, the difference between conservatives and socialists. Socialists harbor the belief they have the right to force us to do what they perceive is right. To intimate that all Mormons would automatically support and push Romney is tantamount to saying all Catholics and the Pope would support and revere Al Capone - who was, after all Catholic.
ridiculous.
