WASHINGTON An enormous and impassioned crowd rallied at the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on Saturday, summoned by Glenn Beck, a conservative broadcaster who called for a religious rebirth in America at the site where the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his famous I Have a Dream speech 47 years ago to the day.
Something that is beyond man is happening, Mr. Beck said in opening the event as the crowd thronged near the memorial grounds. America today begins to turn back to God.
It was part religious revival, part history lecture, as Mr. Beck invoked the founding fathers and the black-robed regiment of pastors of the Revolutionary War and spoke of American exceptionalism.
-snip-
Officials do not make crowd estimates because they are unreliable and can be controversial, but event organizers put the number of attendees at 500,000; NBC News said it was closer to 300,000, but by any measure it was a large turnout. The crowd stretched from the Lincoln Memorial to the Washington Monument.

The left dont like Islam, its just that the enemy of my enemy is my friend and both the left and Islam hate America more than anything - hence you get leftist feminist groups supporting Islam, etc. The left and Islam will use each other for their own purposes(destroying America) and then turn on each other.
Bears repeating with proper emphasis.
This is EXACTLY correct.
Sorry, but I do not and will not listen to the religious exhortations of someone who worships a false god.
****For Petes sake let it go. Becks one of the good guys. You can get your panties in a wad when Beck says that about Christianity.****
Why should a Christian let it go?
Mormons believe you can become a god.
Mormons believe Jesus and Satan are spiritual brothers.
Mormons believe in works righteousness, Christians don’t.
Mormons deny the Trinity.
Just because someone talks about God doesn’t make them a Christian anymore than putting a brick in my oven makes it a biscuit.
I like Beck, I agree with much he says, but I will not get all excited when he talks about religion.
I'm not sure this is the thread for it, but, yeah, that's what we feelthy papists believe. It's what we call "The Immaculate Conception."
The idea is not that Mary is, so to speak, on her own toot free from sin, but that in a unique, what, application or operation of His saving Grace, Jesus freed her at the moment of her conception.
You and I fall into the puddle and He pulls us out and cleans us off. Mary (we teach, FWIW) was prevented from falling in. But it's of CRITICAL importance to understand that she did not, could not, save herself, but was/is saved by Christ, as are all the saved.
The quote is from a vision or apparition (I don't know what the difference is, if any) to Catherin Laboure, fairly early in the 19th century, and is part of the so-called "Miraculous Medal."
You’re right. Probably not the right place for this discussion. Ping me from some other thread more relevant.
You didn’t have any BIG pictures?
For one thing, Beck is no theologian. When he disses "social justice" he means the perversion of the idea that a lot (including a lot of Catholics) are perpetrating. But the idea of social justice is at least as old as the prophet Amos.
So I rather doubt that Beck is aware of the details of the LDS view. I would suspect that I would get strong agreement from Beck if I began my prayer by addressing God "not as we think Thou are, but as Thou knowest Thyself to be." And even this would-be Thomist Catholic knows that most of my thinking about God is mistaken one way or another.
And if I hear Beck exhort me to turn to God, I can agree even if he and I differ about the qualities of the God to whom we both should turn. I can listen to and be blessed by "Jesus Radio" even when the preachers would probably blench if they knew I was a Catholic with a strong Marian devotion.
Beck seems to think that Jesus saved him in love. I am content to let Back and Jesus work on the details of what that might mean.
Taliban Fundies....what a perfect name for them!
Why don't you take your antipathies elsewhere?
The Bible says to “believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved.” I have heard Beck, on several occasions, confess that. Are you saying that if a person believes that but belongs to a different organization then you do that the Bible is “null and void”?
lol....
Sorry but the battle is good vs evil. that easy, that simple.
“G-d will sort out who is His in the end.”
We are all God’s. He will sort out based not on religious affiliation, but what each soul did under the auspices of their chosen affiliation.
Does anyone recognize the irony in that? Might such preoccupation with sectarian differences not be one of the reasons we have neglected "salting" our society with the ideas of liberty over past decades? Might it be a reason our nation's liberty is being eroded as we speak?
America's Founders focused on liberty, and on those ideas "in which all religions agree" (Jefferson), and they made the "miracle of America" a reality in their time. They differed on many doctrinal points, but they recognized the Hand of "Divine Providence," sought His purpose, and capsulized the ideas of liberty in a Declaration of Independence from the hand of an oppressive government and wrote a Constitution which allowed for freedom of religious thought and practice while it allowed for opportunity and prosperity.
We are about to lose all that for future generations unless we can restore the foundations.
Every moment wasted on quibbling about other people's personal beliefs and judging their souls is neglecting the task at hand.
Congratulations to all who put their hand to the plow and leave the judging to the "Creator, Divine Providence, nature's God, and Supreme Judge of the World" (Declaration of Independence).
Just asking. . . .
Which god is Beck referencing?
Mormons believe in a literal "council of gods."
And he was a spirit-turned man-turned god:
"The doctrine that God was once a man and has progressed to become a God is unique to this Church" (Brigham Young, Teachings of the Presidents of the Church: Brigham Young, 1997, p. 34)
"God was once a man as we are now" (Search These Commandments publication, 1984, p. 151) -- and on p. 152: "Our Father Advanced and Progressed until he became God."
"God is a glorified and perfected man..." Lds publication, Gospel Principles, 1985, p. 9
Hmmm...other than that...what god are all of these Americans (and some Freepers) following the new pied piper to???
If you disagree with those you accuse of "quibbling" -- then guess what? You have joined the so-called "quibblers!" You have refuted yourself! You are what you accuse others of!
If, indeed, your standard is to make no significant doctrinal distinctions, well, guess what? That in and of itself is a doctrinal distinction!!! And then when you get on others' cases for making such a distinction, and then trot right out there to make your own religious and doctrinal distinction, on what grounds does you own distinction carries such weight -- yet others' distinctions are verboten?
Tell you what: If your own personal standard is to supposedly make no public judgments or quibblings about others personal beliefs, try being consistent for once: And when others express what their personal beliefs are -- including those about Beck's Mormonism and their wariness about being in league with him -- then stop making judgments about those expressions if indeed that represents your own personal standard!
Ah, yes. This must come from the Book of Rennes Templar, chapter 3, verse 16. (And if not, please tell us your authoritative source for this absolute of yours)

Our nation's liberty is being destroyed, a citizen has brought hundreds of thousands of informed, peaceful, passionate-about-liberty group together to work together to "restore honor," focus on "faith, hope, and charity," and the discussion here is wasted on whether or not that person's doctrinal beliefs match the precise definitions of another person.Excellent post, loveliberty2. Excellent, excellent.Does anyone recognize the irony in that? Might such preoccupation with sectarian differences not be one of the reasons we have neglected "salting" our society with the ideas of liberty over past decades? And don't think it's wasted, just because Colofornian in #134 tries to twist your words and change what you said. That's par for the course for Colofornian, Tenessee Nana and elsie, who either just don't get it or do get it and just don't give a rat's patoot.
When I say your words are not wasted I'm referring to all the people who read them and don't comment on the thread, probably because they don't want to get caught in the crosshairs of those who post on no other subject but this one (at least one of the three I mentioned is like that) and it totally obsessed with proving to the world that his/her conceptual grasp of Jesus Christ is mightier than all others.
But I know there are lurkers who approve of what you wrote because I have gotten emails from them, thanking me, when I wrote similar things.
So keep up the good work, loveliberty2 and April Lexington, and don't be disheartened by the tireless misunderstandings and misrepresentations that will doubtless be posted against you.
That's great.
As for the difficulty I raised, that God is rejected wherever Jesus is rejected
By that logic, the Jews have rejected God as well. I think a lot of rabbis who would disagree with you.
I was there the whole time and never heard Beck reject Jesus. If anything he wholeheartedly loves and supports Jesus and all the work that people are doing in his holy name.
One of the Christian pastors said that he had questioned and probed Glenn Beck extensively about his (Beck's) faith and beliefs, and after the thorough examination found him to have a deep belief and commitment to his Saviour Jesus Christ. That pastor said he would not have come on stage with Beck had he (the pastor) found Glenn Beck lacking in Christian faith.
I trust that that pastor has a better understanding of Glenn Beck's convictions and faith than you do.
